Late Age RANDOM game.
Random Map - (although i'll generate it to make it decent). Not a huge amount of water, maybe 15% of the map max (since there is only 1 water nation LA).
About 15-20 provs per player

Random Nations - Do not ask for your favorite nation. I set it on random because it makes people try new things, myself included.

Normal settings, except renaming allowed and graphs off.

thanks

In the heartlands of a grey wasteland deep within the uneasy bowels of the crumbling fortress known simply as "The Keep of Ulm" A figure in dark grey robes known as Henric, High Priest of the Black Cult sat in silent contemplation, his brow was furrowed with consternation, A new age had begun it seemed the one god had disappeared and his absence was easy ...even for the magic starved peasants of Ulm to see the loss of the One Gods dominion across the lands. Sitting astride a rusted wrought iron chair Henric looked across to the battered and twisted figure laying within the grip of an equally twisted and well-used torture rack, the figure lay exhausted - broken, he was a member of a new heretical cult that had arisen "The Illuminated Ones" they called themselves, to High priest Henric's displeasure the order seemed to know more about the changes within the inner sanctum of the Black Temple then the Black Cult did.

The inner sanctum of the Black Temple was home to an open air courtyard that held three concentric stone circles, each stone facing the centre and hewn of volcanic rock, each a stone primitive anvil in its own right the surface flat still bearing the scars of an age ago when the Men of Ulm were masters of the Forge and anvil. In the centre of the three stone circles was a mighty monolith with a hearth and ancient anvil used to create weapons of great power in ages past. That Monolith they say had once been home to a great power skilled in the ways of Fire and Earth, it was said that it aided the masters smiths of old in the creation of arms and armour made of the black ferrous alloy known as Darksteel. For an age the Monolith had lain silent, the inner sanctum bereft of activity, empty save those of the Black Templar the keepers of the sanctum who still watched and waited...

Today however, within the ancient forge at the base of the Monolith a small spark ignited...*thump*.....coal dust from an age ago caught and nurtured the spark...giving it greater life and warmth *thump*....the small flame grew , soon small embers were present *thump thump*...

Inside the "questioning" rooms of the Black Temple Clodomir lay bleeding and battered on the iron rack he closed his eyes "the end is near...please let it be slow" then he heard the faint *thump* of power, he opened one swollen eye *thump* and looked across to his torturer, yes he had felt it too...Clodomir guessed the High priest had some knowledge of the arcane....yes the portents had been true, The Sleeping One was beginning to rouse from its slumber....its dark constructive energies no longer supressed by the One. He smiled a new age was indeed upon them.

Outside the Ruined Keep of Ulm the inhabitants to felt the dull *thump* emananting from within the keep, Farmers looked up from their ploughs fearfully, the merchants stopped mid haggle with open mouths to stare toward the ancient Keep. Stalwart and grim the people shrugged - The Inquisition would keep them safe, although many muttered a ward against magic and as if a collective mind had spoken to them, each men and women unconciously walked with a little more purpose in their step *thump thump*.

Within the shadowy winding pathways of the Black forest packs of wolves converged together and faced towards the Ruined keep, a mighty howl ran wildly through the forest, not far away two fortune tellers sat by a small fire, they looked to each other....both feeling arcane magics ebbing from them....seemingly sucked away into the nether...what was happening?

*Thump..thump...thump..*

The Sleeping Forge had awakened.

Actually, you've been playing against me (Hellboy) for the last 5 turns now. Not that there's been a significant change in policy, atreides gave me quite clear guidance! You lucked out (well, in a relatively speaking), in that the computer ignored my movement orders last turn <grrrr>. Anyhow, good fight, knocking me off your capital was a good move, and took me by surprise, from there you certainly did an excellent job of minimizing Ermor's gains from your territory.

CyborgMoses said:

Well, that's what its there for right? Seriously, by atreides direction I left that line of indies that was lying between us so that you could create your own little "dominion buffer zone". Dam nice of us Ermorites, donchya think? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

In the forest of Man so long ago
A kingdom whose realm stretched least a mile
Their king was Cupid-o twooo

Upon noble steeds so fair and manly male
In the forest of Man so long ago
Heroes shrouded in fog and misty mist
Their king was Cupid-o twooo

A battle lost and then some more
In the forest of Man so long ago
Hundreds oh hundreds killed some men
Their king was Cupid-o twooo

The darkness crept in from shady vale
In the forest of Man so long ago
They fought and fell oh far too well
Their king was Cupid-o twooo

Now gone and lost at end of time
In the forest of Man so long ago
A tale of madness and turns turned bad
Their king was Cupid-o twooo

Atreides
April 9th, 2007, 07:42 PM
I have to object Micah. I have conducted the affairs of my Empire with honor, and certainly have in no way acted "evil" Now I face five aggressors who have assaulted my lands without provocation in an opportunistic and cowardly alliance. On the other hand, the war seems to be straining their resources quite a bit. If you are looking for something vulnerable once you have finished devouring the Empire of Man, I might be able to provide you with some valuable targets.

johnarryn
April 9th, 2007, 08:11 PM
If by "affairs of my empire" Ermor means the slaughter of Abysia and Pangaea, as well as the spread of his deadly dominion, I feel like he is indeed evil. Let the alliance last until the final vestiges of Ermor's heresy have been driven from the land!

Micah
April 9th, 2007, 09:00 PM
I said evil, not dishonorable. I think the mass slaughter of your own civilians qualifies as such. My nation has responded to the aggression of Man and Patala after they attacked us without warning, but has otherwise been quite peaceful in regard to civilized nations. While we must admit to the use of sacrificial blood rites we feel that it is for the common good, and the beneficial dominion of our god allows the population of Marignon to grow each month, even accounting for the blood spilled by those willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of their country. We doubt Ermor can say the same.

Atreides
April 9th, 2007, 09:13 PM
Abysia and Pangaea were the aggressors in both of those conflicts, and they died for their foolishness. As for the mass slaughter of civilians... well I've certainly never given any orders that would be detrimental to my own people. Although there are less and less as the years go by... maybe they are all packing up and leaving?

cupido2
April 10th, 2007, 04:05 PM

Ooh, this is going to be my second multiplayer game in a row lost because my mages refused to cast anything except Blade Wind. Last time, it was EA Agartha spamming Blade Wind on Niefel Giants instead of fire spells, and in the climactic battle, my pretender using it instead of the freshly researched Falling Fires; this time, it's LA Agartha spamming Blade Wind on ethereal troops instead of using Fireball, Dust to Dust, Control the Dead, or the freshly researched Wither Bones, all of which would have been effective and none of which would have harmed my own troops (all my undead were on the other side of the battlefield from the ethereals).

Okay, to be fair, what's really going to kill me is Ermor bypassing my armies by going through Ulm's territory.

Atreides

Well fought CyborgMoses. I do have to say that was an interesting battle to watch. Curse those mass banishments all of you are using against me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif! I saw at least one of your mages was using wither bones which got quite the flinch out of me when I first saw it, and it certainly saved me that not all of them were using it. In any case, don't throw the towel in just yet, you've been putting up a tenacious defense on my Eastern flank, and with my forces and attention divided as it is, it's by no means over yet. And as far as sweet irony goes, Orion and his eternal knights certainly earned their pay wouldn't you agree? I think if my forces had not routed, they might have won that battle for me single handedly. Still, rally your forces! And let us see if your allies can bring a rescue force to bear.

We note with amusement the label of "coward" being thrown in our direction... we, who have fought the longest (and, may I say, most successfully) against Ermor. Arcoscephale does not fear to fight... rather, we wish to have freedom in our movements and plans for the future; a freedom which Marignon and others have already availed themselves of.

We remain a foe of Ermor, and will no doubt continue to clash with them... though we turn our eyes to the churlish nation of Ulm as well. They may rue the day that they challenged the bravery of Arcoscephale.

I am really sorry for the delays of the last few days; my internet service, which is sketchy at best, completely cut out for a full three days. Again, my sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

Micah
April 25th, 2007, 08:59 AM
I know not of what Arcosephale speaks, Marignon has peacefully negotiated with her neighbors and has not taken any liberties to imperil the alliance against the undead scourge. We think it unwise to risk splintering the coalition by acting alone. We must work together in case Ermor attempts to ruin the world with their dark magic, else we may fall separately.

johnarryn
April 25th, 2007, 02:31 PM
Man and Patala must have enjoyed "peacefully negotiating" with the several hundred Marignon soldiers sieging their castles.

Arcoscephale will take its risks on its own rather than allow Marignon to expand at its leisure while we delay Ermor.

Micah
April 25th, 2007, 05:33 PM
I was never informed of the participation of either of those nations in the coalition. They had also been the aggressors in their war with my nation, Marignon merely answered their attacks in kind.

No matter though, we are certainly capable of sending the aid we have been giving to Arcosephale elsewhere. If you still stand against Ermor please let us know if we may be of assistance.

I should be back up and running on Wednesday or Thursday, and as Johnarryn said, we will then be to a 72 hour schedule. Again, my apologies.

Drum roll please.

I have received Atreides turn. I will host this evening, assuming I have all other turns in (at work now, don't have time to check).

Despite the lag between turns over the last few weeks, I have enjoyed this game thoughly....I really can't beleive I'm still alive, oh and alliance members Ermor has his army near my lands...feel free to attack from the south...hint hint... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Again, I'll apologize for those lags, but I can promise that we are back on track, at least in my case. It is unfortunate that I must pass this information along to you, but that is one of many armies, and probably more devastating news, is that your only ally left in the South, Caelum, is currently being devoured by the Arcos. It's up to you and Agartha to turn me back, and I look forward to meeting your efforts.

The armies of Arcoscephale are merely conducting defensive maneuvers in enemy territory. Nothing to worry about.

However, Ermor may want to be careful about his southern flank... as it is not as secure as he seems to think....

The Ashen Empire humbly offers their surrender to the nation of Marignon. Unfortunately, I failed to read the guide to playing LA Ermor and didn't begin to expand my magical diversity until way late, and now I can't begin to stand against Marignon's SCs. That and it is really getting soul crushing spending 5 hours on my turns. Thanks for a great game all, I actually enjoyed when I was fighting off that alliance of the 5 of you the most of any game I've played. Congratulations Micah.

Anyone object to calling the game then? Sounds like Arco's not willing to carry on at this point in the face of my empire of blood and fire without any allies, and I feel like I've got the game won with Ermor out of the picture.

Um Wow!

Well Ulm will happily submit to the rule of Marignon, The BLack Cult thinks that the people of Marginon might not be too bad after all.

Yeah that was pretty crazy, I surprised that I lasted as long as I did!

In hindsight I would have taken a totally different pretender - I had a Monolith FFS! with A4D4N1.

Would have been so much better off choosing a pretender with high Blood, Death or Astral magic paths.

This was the first game I signed up to after getting into the MP scene....needless to say I've learnt quite a bit since then!

GG all, throughly enjoyed!

Unless Arco wants to continue http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Well I for one am glad its over. Had the most accident prone mages in the early game and then the exasperating ones in the middle.

Had Enchantresses continually casting a Touch of Madness on all my priests and archers when facing hordes of undead. As soon as they fired off all the scripted spells (sometimes earlier) it was Touch of Madness, Touch of Madness - there were a couple of battles where I would have 20 priests charging into the oncoming undead rather than casting banishment

The other annoyance was having 30-odd priests bless themselves before my prophet cast divine bless - which allowed longdead horsemen to start hitting my front line before the banishments started raining down.

Urghhh ... I found this one a real grind.

Yeah, the end game on this one was going to be nasty. I was trying to navigate a "middle way" between Ermor and Marignon, who were both much stronger than me, but it would have been very hard to win. Without Ermor in the game its pretty much over. Good game, guys. Join End of Time2!

I'm very glad that im providing a way for people to get some experience in mp =)
