I believe one of the issues was with seige golems being free. The mod was a bit buggy is other cicumstances as well (super cheap indie-shamans etc). Are you positive you want the conceptual balance mod? Have the issues been fixed?

Hrrm... actually I dunno if we should allow water nations. With such a small map and wars likely to start almost immediately I doubt people will have time to build specialized equipment to enter the water. Plus all your sages would drown the first turn http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Do you have a second choice evilhomer?

Yeah but you have to remember that VPs are located only in capital provinces. Perhaps the hardest provinces to take in the game. I'm really torn on whether it should be 4 or 3 vps. Conquering one player should be relatively easy. But once you have that vp, all the other players would turn against you, making your 3rd vp very difficult to get. Dunno.

Decided to go with 4VPs for the victory condition. Will be better that way in case a winning player cause someone collapse next to him and gets a VP for "free". So, it now means that you have to conquer 3 capitals in order to win. Not a small feat!

Ok, now that we have all our players, what do you guys think for a map? We need about 150 provinces. Just looking over the standard list I see that Urraparand has 145 provinces. Unfortunately, it also has 35 water provs - dunno how you guys feel about that. Instead of dragging out an extended debate, just post in the thread if you want to:
1) Use Urraparand
or
2) Have me generate a 150 province random map

Even the 150% money multiplayer suggesstion of the map works fine for us.
Rathar
February 8th, 2007, 05:46 AM
I think we should use a random no water map because water provinces cut down on possible independent/buffer expansion.
I've run a few tests on the map with 10 nations 9 provs each and we get stuffed together quick heh..
Rathar
calmon
February 8th, 2007, 05:50 AM
I did tests too, 10 nations needs 90 provinces and there are only 60 left. I had no nation without any neutral provinces as neighbour. I'm not sure this works with every random map.
Maps without water are probalby boring. No strategic points, just land after land after land.
Kydorias
February 9th, 2007, 05:06 AM
I vote for random with no water.
Ironhawk
February 9th, 2007, 05:30 AM
I tend to agree with calmon on this one. Additionally, I think that water provinces might actually result in better distributions of starting provinces for all nations. Since no one else has voted this makes it 3-2 in favor of Urraparrand.
I have sent the map to Sheap (a trusted 3rd party and experienced dominions player) to place capitals and add Sages. That way I wont have any foreknowledge of the positions.

Ok, the server is now up for pretender uploads...
IP: 24.18.113.45
Port: 7501
Game will begin Saturday or Sunday night, depending on how fast you guys get your pretenders in. I've zipped up the mods for this game and attached them to the first post in the thread. Make sure you have them enabled before you create your pretender!
Ironhawk
February 9th, 2007, 05:46 AM
For any players who have never done this before, this is the protocol:
Open Dom3 on your computer
Make sure the mods for this game are enabled!!
Create a Late Age pretender for your nation
Connect to the IP and Port listed above
Click your nation (it will switch to Human Controlled)
Exit
When this is complete, your pretender will have been automatically uploaded to the server. If you have any questions please ask in the thread. It is MUCH better to get this all right the first time rather than having to restart several times.

My preference is for a larger map. Wraparound seems best, else those starting in the middle are most likely to be targeted and those near corners would have an unfair advantage.

So, I'm considering cutting Rathar from the lineup. We've been waiting for uploads for three days without hearing from him. No response to the PMs I've sent, either. I think what I will do is just wait until the map prepared by Sheap (which should be later today) and then if he hasnt gotten in by that time, we will just start without him. I hate to do it - but then I hate to make 9 players sit around for only 1. :/

Actually, sheap has informed me that LA Ermor is broken. They recieve extra gold to counterbalance thier death dominion. But that dominion is broken in dom3 and their population doesnt die off nearly fast enough. So the result is that Ermor effectively has a gold bonus compared to other nations http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

A gold bonus? I didn't see any gold bonus playing ermor. I've 200% tax (and high patroller) in home and ~110% taxes in other provinces and sometimes higher with patrollers, its all totally normal. Income is going down very fast with every point of dominion killing your people.
Look at the graphs. Did you see any bonus?
I'm not sure about die rate of population, maybe they die a little slower then in dom2.
But income/resources got a huge increase in dom3 overall and ermor do benefit from that only a small fraction (at the start of the game). So this could be a small compensation.

My Mammoths didn't even get a chance at your Rangers before they routed. You thought you had a soft target and you attempted to take advantage of it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried, but the battle came out well for me.
Arco met a similar fate, although his massive amount of War Elephants did quite a bit of damage against my defending forces.
And forgive me if I had to ramp up my PD to ridiculous amounts. That's what happens when Ulm, Arco, and Utgard all gang up on me at once.

Its funny that the leader of Midgard is scared about ermor. Especially the graphs.
Didn't midgard has more than the half troops of ermor? I think this guys aren't banishable, has more hipoints, most of them better attack/defence values and the vans have the glamour ability which is even unblessed a real pain.
Besides this midgard has with patala the most provinces and together with agartha and patala the best income.
I would be by far more alerted if i were a neighbor of midgard.
The only thing i would fear from ermor would be the population killing dominion, the rest can be banished.
Don't overrate LA ermor. They always best in army size graph on the start of the game and should be best in gems too because they couldn't maintain any other army than a casted one.
And for the giants: you appeared on our doorstep. You decided to attack caelum and we decided that 3 to 1 against caelum isn't fair.

I'll confirm that Ermor's capital is in 151.
It's hard to muster enough banishers quickly enough, but things went better last turn with about 220 less undead to worry about. However, not much of a dent was made in the total number of Ermorian troops.
I agree that 3 to 1 vs. Caelem was unfair. It should have been 4 to 1, to give all of us attackers a fair chance!

Pangeas proposal during turn3, which was accepted during the same turn: "I wonder if you are interested in a 5-turn non-aggression pact after the ceasefire with pangea? If so I'll stay on my side of the water, so province 83 is yours."
Pangea interpreted it thus: all parts of the agreement end after 5 turns, and the border drawn up is only to clarify which indeps goes to whom.
Utgard interpreted it as: pangea promise never to attack province 83, even if we are at war later on with utgard attacking from province 83.
Pangea finds utgard's interpretation ridicolous, but notices that the message might have been slightly unclear.
solo
February 24th, 2007, 07:44 PM
It's not an interpretation! It's simply just what you said.
If I agree to your desired NAP, then you agree to stay on your side and leave #83 for me.
The proposal might have been ridiculous, from your point of view, but you were its author! I had to laugh and immediately agree!

I agree with calmon about the starting gem idea. It might unbalance things somewhat. But if bumping up the sites number doesnt fix it, it seems worth exploring the idea a little.
So, you can't directly mod gems into a player's starting treasury as far as I know. But, there are a couple of things you could do tho. The first thing that springs to mind would be to give each player one or more gem-generator items.
Another idea would to mod in a special magic site that produces.... say 1 gem of each type? And add that to each players capital.
FAJ

Let me clarify this. Arcoscephale offered Caelum a truce. Caelum's reply to Arcoscephale was something along the lines of "Burn in Hell".
Then Ulm offered Caelum a truce. Caelum replied with admittedly heavy terms for a truce between Ulm and Caelum. Caelum felt the terms honorable given Ulm's blatant past aggression and the fact that Caelum is one province away from Ulm's capital.
Ulm refused Caelum's terms for a truce. And so they choose to burn.
At no time did Caelum ever offer or ask for peace between Arcoscephale and Caelum.

Ermor has provided Caelum no direct aid other than the mutual exchange of magical gems. However, the Noble Calmon of Ermor has relieved Caelum greatly by removing Utgard as a direct threat.
I am proud to call the Ashen Empire an ally. Let Ermor rule the lands and seas of our enemies, while Caelum claims dominion over the mountaintops and skies. Those who are neutral or eventually claim friendship may share in the spoils of war.

First you join a 3 to 1 against caelum. Now you request an all vs ermor alliance. How honorable!
I'm not even bordering you and i'm still not sure which troops you sighted in your post before. Maybe you mix-up the different undead players in late era.

The Dread Goddess Morkana speaks:
Perhaps this is where Caelum got its gold for the Troop Surge of mercenaries. I see that the feathered fiends are too weak to do their own dirty work. No matter, the mercenaries have broken like water against the rocks, and so shall any other invasion force. As unreasonable as Caelum seems, I would make the suggestion that any alliance with Ermor can only end in the death and zombification of its people. Perhaps its people, as bird-brained as they are, will one day see this and smash the false idols of "Gabrielle" before it is too late.

Ermor provided the bastion from which I was able to brace myself against the early, furious simultaneous assault by Arco, Ulm, and Utgard. Unlike those three aggressors, I do have a sense of honor and feel bound to aid he who stood by me since the beginning dark days of this war.
And Ulm really needs to read better. I've already stated that Ermor has never directly aided Caelum except through a mutual exchange of gems. That means no gold.
And the Pretender Arkolaos might need a new set of britches. I believe I witnessed him stain his current pair this last month. I think I also heard the *ping* of a birdcage bar breaking.
By the way, Midgard isn't looking too shabby either. Don't let his forked tongue take all the attention away from his steady gain of power.

All graphs taken together, I'd put you in 2nd or 3rd place. What I don't understand is why you insist on only possessing one fortress. A few more fortresses and you'd have much more research done, easily putting you in a solid 2nd place.
But I'm sure there's a reason for this.

Indeed if this is the case then we shall brace ourselves for the dead when they begin to arrive, for the Ashen Empire stands for only one thing and that is death, like a vile plague it spreads from their lands, Honour has been mentioned recently - most notably an attack on my good name, but what can the dead know about honour?
We call all nations to do what they can to halt the Ashen empires rise to power.
...and you lapdog of a liche, your recent victory was fortunate, had your Seraphs and yourself fought like honourable foes you would not have hidden behind your magical "fog". Majiks which aid my forces in battle are dishonorable? I did not know that. Well in that case I shall not use any more "dishonorable" tactics. Not.
Look closely and you'll see that my Storm Generals wear red tunics. Recently one of my Raven Guard asked why. The Storm General replied that wearing a red tunic prevents his troops from seeing the blood pouring forth when the Storm General is grievously wounded.
Rumour has it that the Pretender Arkolaos wears yellow pantaloons for similar reasons.

Ermor isn't that good some of you may think. LA Ermor is primary undead hordes. Every simple mage needs gems to get it. The game settings may help ermor to get armies fast but it also helps every other nation to research counters very fast. I'm always pleased in a LA mp game when the ermor player and no other rocks the graphs because there are so many counters in late game to defeat them.
The hosting settings are more and more a problem for me. Is it possible that we go to a 48 hour qickhost? Coordinating so many undeads needs very much time. You've to make sure your armies are seeking arrow save, etc. Its really not easy!

Well, since Ermor decided to invade me, I'll throw my lot into the alliance.
I hereby call into order, the full smash of Ermor through magics. As many of you may have noticed, I am very capable in the research and most of the gem department. If nations pool together their astrals gems for my nation, I shall power a dispel /per/ turn to crush the Well and throw down the Soul Gate within the next two turns.
If you supply me with information regarding his mage locations, I shall target them with one to two Earth attacks PER turn.
If any locates provinces where he has non astral mages, I shall supply that location with mind hunts.
I am also able to trade herald lances/flambeaus/gate cleavers if provided the gems to create them. I guarantee, if our nations all joins together, we can crush the Ermorian menace off this map within 10-15 turns.

Eh, I find the map situation better for Ermor though. It's rather hard to attack you without mass sailboating since there's a lot of water on this /wraparound/ map, which conveniently enough seperates my land forces from yours while allowing you to pretty much control the water ways since we have no water nation. =(

Does this mean Patala's declaration of war extend to Caelum who have made it clear that they are Ermor's staunch ally?
Even now the three undead legions rage through my lands working in concert with the Caelian Army which lays seige to my capital.
I also call on Pangaea and Utgard too come to a ceasefire agreement, the two of your nations are in a splendid position to carve up the lands of Ermor and Caelum, as your nations currently weaken each other by fighting, who do you think will win in the end? Neither of you....one will fall but the other shall be so weak that the unholy Ermor alliance shall swoop in for easy pickings....
I also call on C'tis, Vanheim and Abyssia to lend whatever aid they can, I can offer plenty of targets should you wish to strike at the Unholy alliance remotely.

IF all nations do not set aside their differences and stand against Ermor, there is no question that he will win the game. Even though I hold an alliance with Vanheim and Abysia against him, he has impunity to roam the water ways as we have no way to traverse our forces across it. So far, I can only hold against him with my land forces but our nations are separated by the waters. Though my research speed is high, it will be still some time before I'm able to bring Thetis Blessing into play to allow our nations to counter attack against Ermor. Meanwhile his gem count and army growth is going unchecked ...
Lastly, I require all allying nations to send me at least 5-10 astral gems per global that ermor casts so I can toss a dispel to counter them.

1000 undeads, an once great ermorian army were going into the dust it was created from.
In the depth of Shark's Maw they waited for the air queen Nephele which should bring the order to attack the sieging army of Midgard in Dry Reach. The meeting was short and interrupted. Out of nowhere a mighty pretender appeared. The Destroyer of Worlds KissBlade equipped with mighty unique items attacked our army.
After a longer fight the most of our etheral front units and our valueable cavalery was slain.
Our airqueen Nephele which was in the back of the army felt by a mysterious lifeloss. After we lose a third of our army the Destroyer of Worlds fled.
However the rest of our army has the order to attack the sieging army and orders have to be obey. So 600-700 souls and souless raise out of the seas and storm the camps of midgard in Dry Reach. Without the sacred cavalry and the ghost frontline it was a massacre. At the end of the day our army was history and midgard lost not even 100 vans, huskarls and barbarians. But several of the melees fled in fear.
We don't have an information what happened after this battle. We can only speculate that the remaing midgard forces tried to storm the castle and got a bloody nose. Anyway Dry Reach is controlled by Argatha again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I'm not sure why the air queen died. Maybe her own mistform or the soul vortex was responsible. However she was never adjacent to kissblades pretender and always behind my army so soul vortex shouldn't damage her.

Hahahah, yeah. My tactics this game have been HORRIBLE. Just plain horrible. Tho honestly im not sure how you won that last battle, Rathar. My vans were only up against skellies, of whom they should kill at least 3/turn per van. Since there was only a handful in your backfield they should have quickly overrun them and your mages but somehow failed to do so?
Anyway, it appears that our war is over as I must return home to defend my lands from the undead menace. You fought really well tho.
