Nation Selection: Once the game is full I will randomly assign nations out. When signing up players may request up to TWO nations they DON’T want. These are nations you DO NOT want to play. Sign up in this thread.
After nations are assigned I’ll need you to email your pretender password to velusion@at@sbcglobal.net. This is because I’ve had issues with the Master Password working in the past AND so we can give your nation to another human player if you disappear. This is not optional. If you PM me your password make sure and include your email address if you would like to be included in the diplomacy email distribution list or want email notifications when turns host.
Once I have your password I’ll send you the ip/port of the server where you can upload your pretender. Once everyone is uploaded I’ll send out an email listing everyone’s email contact for diplomacy purposes and add you to the game turn email notification list (unless you specify otherwise). Then the game starts.
Quickhost will be enabled. The first 12 turns will be set to have a 24 hour autohost – so expect to do at least a turn a day for the first couple weeks. After that the timer will increase to 48 hours though it is hoped that players will normally still be able to play every 24 hours, with the occasional missed day. As turns take longer in late game this might increase further. As players get eliminated we can be more flexible with extensions and extended absences, but not in the first few weeks.
A small version of the map we will be using is here (http://67.66.187.69/civproject/sos/tempest.jpg). The map has been tweaked to ensure (hopefully) that all players that start on land have at least four land neighbors and all players that start at sea have 3 sea neighbors. I have also tweaked the ocean connections so that separated sea provinces connect to each other across straits (hence all seas that look like they should be connected are linked). This map is a result of lots of random generation and a wee bit of photoshopping. If we do not fill, we will be using a smaller map.
Players who wish to surrender (resign) should simply let me know so we can find a replacement or turn the nation to computer controlled. If you will be unavailable for longer than a few days please let me know. Failing to do you turn twice a in a row without letting us know will get you put on AI. If I think you are missing too many turns (e.g. 3 out of the last 6) I will put you on AI. Once I am eliminated (*coughisuckcough*) I’ll rely on the remaining players to tell me when something needs done with the game.

You know, I always wondered why you put the map on the same game server for download as this doesn't change anything, if they download it via the game (easier) or via browser. You could put it as attachment on this forum or by using a file hosting service like mediafire.com ...

I'm also assuming the php error is because it is the first turn.

I'll give it a few hours and see if anyone wants this spot (Agartha) on this thread. If no one responds I'll make a seperate "looking for replacement" thread.
If this is the scale bug they will revert back to what was orginally picked over the next couple turns. It sucks, but typically it's not a game breaker since it happens so early... espeically if it is only 2 misfortune negative.

I did stall and was wondering why, but I got a helpful PM explaining the intricacies of TCP/IP play... ahem. It's my first network game and I was under the mistaken impression that turns had to run a full duration (24 hours for example) even if all players had played. Everything is much clearer now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
Velusion

Ahh ok... just wanted to make sure you weren't screwed (by the game). My system had time keeping issues in the past so I'm overly sensative to them.
Server is back up! Timer Reset!
Velusion
February 23rd, 2007, 03:14 PM
The server has been temporarly taken off line. Suffice to say the timekeeping issue didn't completely go away... it just became not so obvious. Bascially the server was hosting it's turns about 3 hours early... which might have caused Dedas to stale unintentionally... (and possibly a couple others in the past http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif )
Once I hear from him (through a post here or email) about if he would like to revert we might be going back to immediatly before the last turn was hosted. I'll leave that up to him (i.e. if he was going to play his turn in the next 3 hours we will restore, otherwise I'll just start up the server with 27 hours on it).
I'm very sorry for the inconvienence, but I don't want to screw anyone out of thier turn. Since the server just hosted an hour ago so not too many people have taken thier turns so hopefully it won't be a big deal to anyone.
I'll be contacting Dedas via email and creating a sepeate thread (which I'll link to from here) on the forums about the issue.

FWIW I noticed that Dedas played a turn in my game just shortly after he staled in yours. He was playing before your server was scheduled to host, so he was certainly up and around and available to play a turn before the scheduled hosting time for Tempest.
Velusion
February 23rd, 2007, 03:50 PM
For those of you that will wonder why the server timer might increase slightly on my games.
Forum thread detailing the issue here: here (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=498715&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1).
This will NOT stop my games from progressing, it's just in this particular game I want to give Dedas a chance to fix his stale if he wishes. The game will continue back on with a 24 hour hosting (though the server will read 27 hours). I'm not sure if this affected anyone else in the past... if so - my apologies! Eventually th IP will change and these games will move to a different box.

No. No one but Dedas needs to do thier turn at the moment.
I recommend you wait for the email notification that Tempest has hosted. If you played the new defunct turn 6 and you attempt to reconnect, there is the possiblity you're turn will be reset and you will have to redo turn 5... (not sure about this, but just to be sure).

February 24th, 2007, 02:22 PM
Ok, game is up and going. To make sure no one reset thier turn and didn't know it I took the game off of quick host. Once Dedas finished thier turn (and I was awake) I backed up his turn file, restored again, and put his finished turn file back. Then I hosted!
So we should be set to go now. This was the first revert I've had to do, to thanks for ya'lls patience. I'll probably do things differently next time (start the game on a different port and just give it to the player who needs to do thier turn before hosting and changeing the port back).

I have no clue why the warning appeared, the odd lobo story continues tho.
This turn he developed magic skills (S3W2) and one of my aboleth became an ordinary unit instead (non-commander).
Overall a decent trade since the lobo has amphibious and more slots.(less hp and worse leadership unfortunary aswell).

I don't think so, then the game would not report that as a possible cheat. But I heard that the message used to pop up for MA C'tis because their dominion effect didn't have a strong enough influence or something, maybe the same applies to EA R'lyeh?
What order/etc. dominion has Evilhomer chosen?

Could be worse, you coulda started next to Helheim.
Do not expect the Helheimians (lol spelling?) to accept anything less than war with your nation. I approached them with a non-aggression pact that was rather largely in their favor, yet all I recieved was a messenger bringing news of the battle they had brought to me and my lands. If you are near them I would suggest to attack and rid the world of their barbaric kind before they tire of fighting me and come for your nation.

The people of Helheim have peacefully negotiated with many a nation, and broke no pact with you. The offer that you say was so largely in our favor was merely a standard agreement of non-aggression. Do not make it sound like it was so much in our favor, especially when the lands that you offered us have already been claimed by another nation.

Woe be the day this vile crawler erred and slithered into the seas of its former ally. R'Iyeh will be sorry for his treachery, and by the time he fumbles into the former home of Atlantis, there will be no lab nor mighty fortress to be found to comfort or protect his evil and exhausted hordes.

I remember playing Man in another game and I had the same problem, I then got illusionists and they where exactly the same.
The only solution I found was a double check of my orders using F1, just look for sneak, then double check you actually want them to be sneaky.

The lizard king has fallen.
The nation of C’tis has gone to the honorable grave of a warrior as the Mictlan wind blows south. Seeing an opportunity as they feuded with other neighbors, the holy warriors of the land of the jungle fell upon the swamplands like an avalanch of boulders. Eagle warriors dropped on all sides like hammers as a solid core of jaguar warriors marched down the center as the anvil. After several bloody battles our generals gazed upon the home citadel of the lizard folk and considered the options.
The sauromancers are well known for their command of the undead, and the slaying of undead is cold methodical work not worthy work for raising the blood of the holy warriors. So a score of priests were brought forward in preparation before the bloody army marched on the last stronghold of the lizards. In the face of taunts from the forked tongues, we waited until the time was right, then marched in force.
Indeed hundreds of walking dead were raised as the C’tis militia tried once in life, and once again in death to repulse us. The eagle warriors were not able to make to the back lines in time to stem the flow of undead by slaying the sauromancers, so the sweaty work of hacking bodies into pieces too small to shuffle forward fell to the anvil of jaguar warriors. Many of the weaker eagle warriors fell, and the rest routed, but the core of our army blasted through the brittle bones and clumsy shuffling long dead as chime after chime of banishment rained down around them.
Warriors until the end, the sauromancers retreated after the walking dead inflicted significant casualties, only to return the following month summoning another large group of undead in a last show of defiance before we could storm their castle. Unsupported by an army however, the undead did not last very long alone and the last of the sauromancers was slain as the wave of our holy warriors overwhelmed the flow of undead.
Now, fittingly, we digest our large meal like a snake- outwardly dormant but already thinking about where our next meal will come from.

I guess it's not terribly impressive to brag about stomping on the AI, but the fight to take the Sauromatian capital was a hoot anyway (I think the defenses were scripted before they got set AI).
"Aw crap, that's a gorgon. And wonderful, several hydras with a good sized army of heavy infantry and a dozen skellispamers to hold the gates." (I relieved Vanheim of the siege so I had no idea what was inside)
"Ah, cool, note to self: make sure to use hellbind heart again next time I go up against Hydras"
It was great, all their dudes ran up to whack on the recently converted hydras (getting lethally poisoned) while my guys strolled in the front gate unopposed. The skellispam considerately put the Hydras down before my troops got in the danger zone, and the gorgon climbed her fatigue over 100 buffing the lethally poisoned troops. Then it was just knocking down a bunch of unsupported skellis and passed out mages...

Sorry to say, I'm going to have to pull out of this game. I start a new job on Monday, so (sadly) I'm going to have reduce time spent playing Dominions. It's been fun everyone! Thanks especially to Velusion for doing an excellent job at hosting.
I've asked Velusion to find a substitute, and I think the position could offer some fun to whoever takes it over. While the position has its flaws, it's certainly far from hopeless (and I'll be happy to give a detailed briefing to whoever takes it over).

The gates of Sauromatia fall, and the bloody god demands fresh blood in appeasement. After a brief stare at the ominously silent nation of R’yleh it was decided that now was not the time to march underwater. This left the vanir cousins for consideration. Helheim appears otherwise occupied, but perhaps a bit much to bite off. Vanheim, on the other hand appears ripe for the plucking. The trick will be to start and finish the conquest quickly enough that the hungry Helheim and R’yleh have no chance to notice us otherwise engaged.
“Very well” said high priest Baalz, “First we shut down their capital. We must minimize the number of heavily blessed Vans we face on the battlefield. Let their crops wither and die, I want every drop of rain to become a toad until their population drowns under the rotting corpses. Next, open the gates of Inferno, I want their country to burn. Let no corner of their kingdom be spared, imps should raid from the mountain tops to the swamps and find everywhere their glamoured troops are not. Finally, march forth with the mighty Jaguar Warrior host which has just finished sacking Sauromatia, for somewhere in these red-flag territories lie the tricksie hidden defenders.”
As the nation of Vanheim caught fire and began to burn, the hidden defenders quickly found that glamour and fancy moves alone was no match for the hungry Jaguar Warriors. Dozens upon dozens of huskurls gave their lifeblood to the ground and the bloody god was, for a time satiated. Then, the scouts reported a more formidable defensive force trying to sneak upon us. Behind a impressive phalanx of huskurls several dwarves were seen practicing sending huge clouds of spinning blades out, sure to decimate the lightly armored Jaguar Warriors. Towering above them all was an immensely magically powerful Frost Father, the self styled god of the Vanir.
“No, that’s not going to work for me, I will not have our noble warriors cut down in swaths by those dirt grubbing rock slugs, bring me their heads before the battle.” No sooner had the order been given than a swarm of seething disease demons flew forth to deliver. All dwarves were slain (ethereal disease demons weren’t impressed with the blade winds), though the demon which attacked the Frost Father had to be content to infect him with a lethal disease before being blasted back to the abyss.
“This is still not satisfactory, that Frost Father alone has enough power to level a city, I will not send our troops to die under that vile deluge.”
“But your holiness, how can we hope to assassinate such a powerful creature? No assassin in existence can hope to challenge him one on one!”
“I have been keeping something for just this occurrence, bring forth the black bows.” The terrible black bows were brought out of the vault, and given to lesser warriors that they might win some glory. They would have but a few shots apiece before they must retreat – no point risking the valuable bows. By high priest Baalz’ orders, only militia and slave chaff would be sent forth for this fight – the Jaguar warriors would be held in reserve until the Van’s support was broken. The one exception being that vile Bogus creature, having offended the high priest with his vulgar behavior Baalz had ordered him to hold the center of the front line to give the archers time to work…and work they did.
Now the Vanheim host sits virtually leaderless at the foot of the former Sauromatian capital, surrounding a feebleminded and diseased wretch they still worship with not a mage to be seen within a hundred leagues. There is no hope of reinforcements, their capital stands all but abandoned, their fields burn and but a few territories were able to fight off the imps. The Jaguar warrior host prepares to make a truly fitting blood sacrifice in honor of another successful conquest. We salute our latest opponent and will honor you in death by offering you directly to the bloody god.

Look at you... a propaganda machine feeding everyone bad numbers!
Actually it's only %75. A 40 gem item now only costs me 10 gems to forge as opposed to my previous 20 (40 * .5(forge) *.5(D.Hammer+smith) = 10). So in reality, forge is only saving me %25 of base cost of an item. That assumes I use a Smith to make the item and that I have a hammer of course.
I'll be hard pressed to save more than 20 gems a turn (after the initial forging bonanza that is). Actually Ulm gets the LEAST benefit from the Forge bonus compared to any other nation due to the fact that forge bonuses don't stack.
You on the other hand can use your 20 gems on whatever you want, including rituals. You get your gems without the investment of forgers which could be researching. But then you don't need to do much researching do you "Mr. Has the most Research by Far".

I dunno what's going on, but the clock's messed up. It's showing 4 hours to the next host as well. I thought I somehow lost track of the hosting, which would have been a shame. Maybe Velusion's trying to sneak some extra turns in to make sure Ulm wins =)
Also, Marverni went AI? They're kind of in a strong spot to be given up to the computer unless that's related to the server-clock weirdness.

Velusion
April 25th, 2007, 09:34 AM
Sorry about that. What I think happened was I tried to reset the clock back to 48 hours last night because of Jazzepi's absence. Apparently the 4 took while my 8 was lacking, hence the time change to 4.
We are all restored back to immediately before it hosted, so it "should" be all good. Now in the past people have noticed some strange in-game stuff happening once I restored. I'm curious if that occurs again, as there is no logical reason why it should...

Never mind the attachment didn't stick - but the guy has level 2 in multiple paths (including holy). Unfortunately he ain't sacred as well.
I also have an Ichythid trooper that is level 3 in a couple of paths.
It is weird - and unfortunate that it didn't happen sooner given that the only mages Agartha has had for the longest time were those that survived the Helheim invasion,by jumping into the nearest pond and staying small. Have not been able to recruit any mages since then.
