was just wonderring what was up with illwinter's dom3 site. since it's creation it has not changed nor have there been any updates, it seems, to anything else on the site. is it dead? i liked that it was used as a centeral repository for all of the mods and maps, so it would be a shame if the site is no longer being maintained. anyone know anything about it?

They actually have a progress page here. (http://ulm.illwinter.com/dom3/dom3progress.html) Seems to be inaccessible right now, though.

Maintaining a site -> boring. Boring stuff doesn't get done. That's why they have Shrapnel to make good-looking sites. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

And the wonderful players who maintain great download sites, documentation, and game servers. We have about a dozen now?

The Illwinter servers do tend to go in and out of service completely. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I know that KO has gone make some skiing, but that's this week, and the site hasn't been updated in ages !
It kind of baffle me, that much little attention to the one of the game's showcase ...

I think that the 'illwinter' site is pretty obsolete since the move to shrapnel. They've got a few links, and the old games' stuff, but for Doms2 & 3 it's not necessary any more. The forum, game information, news, patches; it's all here.

i preferred having all of the maps and mods in the same place, rather than having to search through hundreds of forum posts for them

That sounds like a good idea if someone does it

well i see that a thread has been started that attempts to pull together all of the mods, maybe it would be a good idea to start one for maps

This is the kind of thing for which a forum thread is not the best solution: it gets lost among the many other threads, and unless it's locked and altered, it gets filled with more messages than links. A separate page that gives links to the downloadable stuff would be great (was it Illwinter that maintained the one for Dom2? I find I have downloaded nearly nothing for Dom3, mostly because of this)

/me points to the Strategy Wiki (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dominions_3). The information there is not very dense and lots of things are missing, but everybody can help to participate and change that. Just register and you're free to change everything.

Ive provided webspace to dom3 player-developers. Web page people, map makers, tool programmers, even some who wanted to explore certain features such as PbEM games.

My own web pages have not progressed very well though. Until I can host the games with some stability I havent spent much time on the other aspects.

I agree with Endoperez... the boring stuff doesn't get done by Illwinter. Earlier they mentioned not knowing how to spend money and hiring someone to do all the stuff Illwinter doesn't enjoy doing sounds like a great way Illwinter can spend money... even if they hire someone for a week to update the official website at least there will be something.

The thing is that the web site is the first impression most people get. When I've tried to direct people to go play Dominions, I think a lot of people have been turned off by the web site.

Yes, there are good fan sites, and I know updating web sites can be a pain, but come on, at least put up some links to the forums and such.
