I equipped my pretender with this beast.
I understood that it would paralyze her attackers. Instead, it just killed them outright.
My pretender is now indestructible, at least in single player.
Am i misunderstanding something? Is there a counter to a unit equipped with the aegis, reinvigoration, and a high magic resistance?

yeah, life for a life or other spells with no check vs MR. Also archers and other artillery.
it gives them petrify. all those guys turn to stone. A high MR will save them though.
Gorgons get this ability without the shield.

Basically, there are plenty of things that you can do in dominions for which counters exist, but are not used by the AI.

There are plenty of counters. Off the top of my head, Gifts from Heaven comes to mind since its such huge damage and not resistable.

life for a life is better, if you have blood, since its also 100 accuracy.

However, it takes gems and is higher in research, and in Blood which has very, very few combat spells.

If you are a blood nation you probably want to research blood anyway even if it is very few combat spells.

There are much fewer blood nations than non-blood nations, so I'd think Life for a Life could as well be a national spell for them - it's just as unreachable for most nations. For those nations that want Blood 9 any way, it is indeed good, but for everyone else Evocation (or some other school) provides better choice of damage spells against an Aegis-wearing pretender.

do you know that, blind units can be petrified ?
I have equiped a gorgon with the forbidden lantern and the petrification still worked.

units that are blind as a plus (can see without eyes) seem to be immune to it though.
I tried this out once, sent an earth attack at the aegis holder. The elemental had no problem stepping all over the guy, perhaps on the account of it having no eyes to begin with.

Does trample count as an attack for aegis purposes?

I would assume so.

I'm pretty sure I've seen earth elementals ignite from trampling flame-shielded human-sized mages, so it triggers at least some damage-shield effects.
