View Full Version : Looking for a game with semi-experienced players.

I am a bit confused about how to look for a server.
Most posts I read are either (STARTED) (RUNNING) or (FULL).

If anyone could explain to me how to easily find servers to play on, I would be grateful.

Also, if you are looking for a semi-experienced player, give me a call.
I own Dominion 3 for about 2 months now.

Cheers!

Hey Arghaii,

Most of the games you see have already started running because games around here tend to fill up rather quickly. Im hosting 3 PBEM games (which is more than I can handle!) and those all filled up within 24 hours of me posting.

So, the best way for you to get in a MP game is to host one yourself... PBEM is useful if you don't want to have your computer running all the time, but takes more work... it also is usually slower than network, though you can make PBEM fast if you try.

If you don't want to host one yourself, keep a sharp lookout on the forums and you might catch a new game as it comes up... i'll also let you know if im starting a new game, though this is unlikely until one of my present games ends.

I feared I would hear of this solution :S
I don't think I can handle hosting, at least not yet.
Thanks for the hints, I'll try to come back to these forums daily.

Anyone ever thought of some simplified way to produce a list of open games, instead of having to keep up with lots of threads? Or is it not plausible under this forum system?

Open games dont stay open long enough to edit such a list. Since a game can last weeks, months, even a year.. no server can always have an open game to join.

It doesnt work too badly here. A game that is open usually says so in the thread subject. Then when it starts, the first post is edited to show that the game is closed.

The option of subing, that is jumping in and playing a nation that someone has abandoned is also possible. Im suspecting a sub will be needed in both the "mid era orania" and the "10 player hosted middle era slower game" since one of the players just vanished.

It is indeed a problem, finding a game, you just have to be on the lookout! They're a bit like buses - I found I was waiting for one for a week or two, then a whole load came at once and it was really hard to not just join all of them in the excitement! Anyway yep, just checking the forums every day (at least, if only briefly) is the way forward.

Don't forget to try the IRC channel if you would like to play a quick blitz, especially on the weekends. Also, I think many players would be up for a 1x1 PBEM game for fun.

Arghaii,

I'd be willing to play you in a 1x1 PBEM game, and am willing to host the game.

I haven't thought about the IRC channel at all.

Solo, count me in: my e-mail is lnikolaidis@gmail.com.

Haven't tried PBEM yet, so bear with me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Solo, Arghaii,
I'm brand new too... Would you mind to extend the challenge also to me?
Maybe I'm not a great challenge but I do not give up until finished.

Well, I do plan on hosting eventually when hosts start to dry up, so I will have a go at hosting a 1 on 1 game with you, if you like. You will after bear with me as this will be the first time I have hosted. PM me your email and we can sort the details out. It will be a PBEM game.

I am semi-new, and I am looking for a second game to be a part of. I cannot host right now, but in the future I can set up my computer to be a server for a game.

I am in one PBEM game right now, but the turns only update every 72 hours, so I have time for another.

PBEM turned out fine to me.
It's very interesting and gives you the chance to consider your moves more carefully.
It's like chess:)
Thanks to Solo for the game.

Thanks also to you for the game, which I am enjoying very much so far.

I no longer play SP, as MP by PBEM or a server is where this game really shines.
