View Full Version : Crash Issue

Everything was going great until...
The other day, I ended my turn and during the end turn phase, my computer crashed. Now, whenever I try to end a turn, the system hangs. It usually happens during AI Thinking, resolving the first battle (turn 1), or once during the Horrors phase.
I have tried reinstalling, uninstalling and doing a clean install, and even tried installing it on my 2nd hard drive. So far, nothing I seem to do has worked.
Does anyone know a way to fix this issue? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Does it work if you try a game with just two human players?

No, it still hangs when I try to invade an independent land. However, when I did nothing, the game progressed to the next turn.

What map? What province number were you trying to invade? It might be a bug in the map

Every map I've tried: Cradle of Dominion, Glory to the Gods, Silent Seas, etc.
If it were a problem with the maps, it should have been corrected after the clean re-install. I unistalled and deleted the entire Dominions 3 folder, then re-installed.

What OS are you running?

Any mods running?
Im trying to figure out why attacking independents on any map would crash

I would recommend trying out some other hardware intensive programs that you know worked before and see if the crash reoccurs. Almost sounds like a component is on it's way out or maybe a driver was corrupted. Bad ram stick, video card, cpu, fans/overheating, etc. That is assuming that everything was working fine until the sudden crash and a fresh install of dom3 didn't fix it.

It's possibly due to someone trying to cast a spell that crashes the game. Mind Hunt can do that, it'll be fixed in the next patch. There are some other special circumstances as well, could be one of those.
Unless it's one of those "hangs on all maps on turn X" bugs.

Wrold of Warcraft still runs fine. Even if it was a spell like Mind Hunt, it wouldn't work at the very first turn of the beginning of a new name.

Same problem here.
The game works perfectly when I make a clean install (version 3.00), but after applying the patch, I know some turn down the line will fail to be processed and then every other one after that will also fail, no matter whether it's a saved game or a new one.
I'm playing without any patch right now, but hopefully we'll find a solution for this.
Cheers,
Alex

Well, are you sure you use the right cd key? There were some reports of problems after press the end button and johan commented that this has to do with copy protection and wrong cd keys are used. I also heard this copy protection was improved with 3.06!
Compare your key in the key file in your game diroctory with your cd key on your manual.

I have experienced some random crashes. Yesterday I was playing a friend on Edi's fixed version of cradles, and on turn 25 or so, the game crashed trying to process the turn.
We tried to run the turn 3 more times, kept crashing so we had to abandon the game.

I recall a crash would occur in DOM_2 when summoning a mummy with the Amon Hotep helm only after a specific patch... this was eventually fixed with a patch, but until the patch I just didn't summon mummies from the helm.
Suggestion to those experiencing crashes: If the crash occurs... try changing what items are being used and what spells are being used.
Also I would say most people posting have purchased a legit copy, but those who have pirated the game don't complain about crashes because 98% of your crashes are coming from the patch by design. The developers will most likely continue making the pirated versions more and more unstable thus turning the pirated copies into more like games with a turn_limit(DEMOS).

Not only do i have a legit version, i bought the legit version for the people i play with. So, that is not an issue.
one is my nephew and one is a close friend that needs some prompting to play dom III with me rather than wow constantly.

I too have many legal copies of Dom3 but have had this problem. So even for legit copies it can be a good idea to at least try deleting the file named key and then let Dom3 prompt you to put the key back in. And one guy I know couldnt fix his problem until he had someone else put in his key (for some reason he kept reading the key in the manual in the same wrong way every time he tried it)
