I'm thinking of having a Ubuntu partition. I would love to be able to play SP without having to boot into Windows.

Has anyone figured out how to play SP in Linux?

PatG pointed out in the SP:WW2 forums that it can be played using Wine, but there is no sound. My freind tried last week, same problem no sound.

edit:just speaking with him now, he says the that Wine may turn off sound buy defualt, you may need to turn it on manualy in the program.

I currently run winSPMBT under Linux using the method described at the WineAppDB (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9301)

I use Kubuntu 6.10 but any distro should work since WINE is fairly independent of the distro. The only tricky part is making a small patch to the WINE source and re-compiling. The patch may not be required on later versions of WINE - I haven't tested them.

The commercial CD, PBEM and OOB editor all work.

In Feisty, there is a problem with the cursor not appearing. There is supposed to be a patch but all the links to it I have found are dead. I still keep a Windows partition for the wife and kids so I haven't bothered trying to recompile.

PatG,

The link I gave above has the source changes you need to make to fix the mouse cursor if you want to try and re-compile your version of WINE. The surrounding code in your version may be slightly different then what is shown, but it should be very similar. I can offer help in that area if you need it.
