As I toil through my German longwar (from 1941), I have found a few islands of happiness http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
1. The sIG 1b hitting moving russian infantry in a seven hex cluster http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
2. Ammo trucks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif
3. Spotter planes http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
4. Counter battery hits by my 170mm battery http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif
Unhappiness? Sure -
1. Massive amounts of AA on the AI (at least it is well to the back) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/fear.gif
2. Indestructable GAZ-aamg that take 3-4 hits to kill http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
3. Streaks of poor ralliyng by 70+% rally value troops http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
What about you?

*lol* Nothing is more frustrating than the "soft" vehicles that just won't die. Watching a tank main gun round hit a truck (or soft AA vehicle) and see "1 casualty" pop up drives me nuts - especially when the same 75mm round hitting - oh say a T-34 - results in one brewed up T-34 with 5 roasted crew.
I also hate AA guns. Loathe them. The AI always seems to have them in fearsome quantities, and even worse is the way they can wreak (admittedly short term) havoc on your AFVs after breaking through the enemy's lines. I always when I hear the inevitable "thump-thump-thump" of 37mm/40mm AA guns as appear out of nowhere to engage and all too frequently destroy my leading AFVs or recon vehicles. I've learned the hard way to try and bait them into exposure with strafing ground attack aircraft (spotter planes are invariable shot down) and then pound them out of existence with artillery and mortars - often before I even move my first units.

Hmm... looks like I left out a word. I meant to say "I aways *CRINGE* when I hear the inevitable..."

Happiness is having a 17 pounder well dug in, in cover, on a distant hilltop. Handled by a cool and professional crew, who waited until the oblivious Germans were all sorts of exposed before starting to 'fire at will'.
That AT gun got 9 kills without even taking any casualties; and won me the battle; but only after the Germans had over-run and completely anihilated an infantry company.
Misery is having an infantry company supressed and scattered by artillery, taking casaulties, and being attacked by a well organized mix of armour and troops. Not a thing you can do...

Happiness is when your recce tanks spot a 2 companies of infantry (the enemy's main force) moving fast over open ground right under your lone gold spot. Nothing like breaking force morale to end a game.

snipers in a night assault; especially when the 25 pounders open up on where he was two turns ago.

Airdropping a string of scouts and snipers behind the line and having them take out a couple of batteries of field guns

Happiness is your motor scouts with light tank support finding an unguarded spot and penetrating to enemy gun and mortar batteries.

When your opponent is cooperative to your battle plan http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif.
(Sometimes this also must be very suspicious...)
