View Full Version : A bug and a mystery with leadership

I finally pinned down something that's been bugging me for a while.

First, the mystery: Leaders seem to be able to lead different numbers of different unit types. This is especially obvious with empires with freespawn. (I decided to have another whack at LA Ryleh.) What's going on??

Now, the bug: Select all units in the province. Try to drop them on a commander. You *SHOULD* get one squad no matter what. The reality is that when you hit a unit that can't fit it terminates the current squad. The next unit that does fit will be put in the next squad.

Different types of leaders can lead different types of troops. Right click on any leader during army setup to bring up the info panel on them. Now left click on the Leadership # entry. This will break it down on how many units the leader can command of what kind.

AFAIK all magical paths contribute to magical leadership, but only death and blood contribute to undead leadership. Blood contributes less per level of it than blood.

Base leadership values for undead and magical leadership is 0 for most units. Most undead units have a base undead leadership of 10 or more and some magical beings have base magic leadership of 10 or more.

Astral magic increases magical leadership by 10 per level, all other magics EXCEPT death increase it by 5.

Death magic increases undead leadership by 30 per level and blood by 5. If the nation has #undeadnation tag (currently not moddable), undead leadership is increased by 15 for each level of holy magic.

Fire magic increases normal leadership by 5 per level.

I think the bug is occuring because the "double-click" feature automatically selects all units. The commander(s) are highlighted based on the stats of the original selected unit. When the unit that doesn't fit is selected, the game then notices that it doesn't belong.

I don't think that it's a bug. sometimes the game divides the units . But not always the same number of groups. Mostly one big group and several groups of 1 unit each.

There's no reason for it to happen, I still think it's a bug.

It will never happen if the force you're adding isn't mixed.

Interesting - I don't think I've ever seen a group split. Are you running on Mac or Linux?

Happens all the time - he's right, it's when the next unit along from left to right is not able to be added, it skips it and starts putting stuff in the next squad.

It seems it only happens when you are moving unassigned units into an army, not when you are moving units between commanders.

I had seen it a few times in the past but I hadn't pinned it down before. It becomes quite obvious if you are getting substantial freespawn, though.
