does anyone agree with me that the amphitere and the tarresque should be effected by one's dragon master rating?

I think dragon master should be renamed "drake master" so as to avoid these types of embarassing questions.

I agree with honey but not with wish, 3 tarrasques would be a little bit overpowering...

whats embarrassing about it?

The fact that there's no good answer to your question other than that the name itself-"dragon master"-is unfortunate.

i guess it would also be cool if #dragon and #dragonmaster <number> were added to modding. (for purposes of making new 'dragons' and maybe heroes or something that are good dragon summoners.)

I also agree with honey in regards to the spell being renamed "drake master" .

Isn't a drake another name for a male duck? Drakes live in ponds and are easliy collected by farmers, so the title 'farmhand' is perhaps better.

You think it's easy to collect a drake? They'd bite your nose off soon as look at you. Savage, bloodthirsty animals these ducks. For instance did you know there are over 5 more duck related fatalities in the US each year than there are ways a duck can kill you in under a minute?

Boggles the mind.

Ducks are dangerous-I choked to death on a duck-bone once, and here I am to prove it!

Hey now, my alma mater's mascot is a duck (University of Oregon). Back off the Duck ballsack, yo. heheh

I was attacked by a goose and it ripped off and stole my shoe. Of course, I was smaller than the goose at the time...

What summons does dragon master actually work with? I'm assuming the drakes.. how about iron dragon?

calmon

Only with the 3 drakes and the wyvern. No iron draon, no tarrasque

i think the amphitere should at least be added. :/ winged snake, breathes poison.

Personally, I think the spell itself should be canned and replaced by a Pretender ability and maybe an artifact, but that's just me.

Wish

not a bad idea.

Mind you, drakes should be made better, or atleast more accessible, in some fashion. They're neat units! I'd just like to see the whole concept improved to the point where people don't feel the "solution" aka the spell "Dragon Mastery" is a rip-off (and it is).

Maybe we could have some (or more, if I've missed them) magic sites that allow the recruitment of drakes? Or mod command that allows one to create a mage that specializes in summoning a specific type of unit (like druids and vine-men/vine-ogres) and apply that to each type of drake. Or both, just because I like drakes. Such features/abilities would make a spell like "Dragon Mastery" excellent, if it stacked. Or add a drake version of the Vine-Ogre, where the spell would let you summon additional, more powerful versions of drakes? In the process, making it clear that drakes are *not* dragons-just, perhaps, related. It would save so much philosophical angst.

I still think the name is unfortunate, though, and the main problem, dragons being such major hitters in mythology. It's a bit like calling anyone who owns a fire-arm a Marine-it's not only inaccurate, it's emotionally dangerous in it's inaccuracy.

Thinking about "Dragon Mastery", it's sad that no abysian mage is able to cast it, as it's one of the nations who would benefit the most from summoning drakes. Maybe it would be nice to add one random slot to their F3H3 mages (Nature, Earth, Fire, Death). So they have a chance to cast dragon master - and a chance to be able to cast their national summons, as none of their mages is able to do that.

Gosh! Olive is Thulsa Doom! I bow my head in awe!

Is dragon mastery a rip-off?

Anyone mastering ducks should want to call their power something greater. Ducks are silly, dragons are mighty. Who would you master? (Sorry for not being entirely serious http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ).

Hehe, Thulsa Doom was my first pretender in Dom2 Mp Games. The hopes I puted in him was as high as the number of afflictions he collected. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

No, Dragon Mastery isn't a rip-off imho, it should be cool with some nations (Abysia, Jotun, maybe Caelum). But it can't be cast by Abysian or Caelian mages without empowerment.

But it's still possible do dedicate a pretender for summonong drakes (don't know ift's worth the invest).

If we are adding dragons to the list, What about that the national summon from Arco. I dont remember its name. Its the 1 Nature and 1 Astral one and costs 10 pearls to summon. It does not fly and has a snake for a tail. You know the one?

Anyway in its flavor text it is "oldest of all dragons" or some such.

definitely. the sirrush.

also why is something with legs that big so slow?

Olive

The Sirrush ?

With DM, it would be underpriced imho.

Wish

thats what they say about the tarresque (sp?)... but the point is, it would actually make the dragon master spell viable.

i guess even if they upped it from a DM2 to a DM4 or let consequent castings stack, the spell would be viable as well.

hey edi, whats the effect # on the dragon master spell?

Yes, Dragon Mastery is definitely a rip-off. Its cost is too high, its bonus too low, and its paths all wrong.

Kristoffer O

Aha, that kind of rip-off. I thought you meant a plagiate.

Pretty correct, needing 4 nature magic and that much research, it's doubtful how often it would get used even at 1 gem.

Dragon Master is a level three nature spell not a level four spell.

Wish
April 19th, 2007, 07:55 PM
still, not only does it require nature and plenty of research, but it requires a mage with the nature AND at least two in an elemental path -- otherwise they can't summon a drake.

PvK
April 19th, 2007, 08:49 PM
No, it only requires one elemental and one nature on the same mage, and some magic-boosting items...

Wish

technically the same thing

i want to be able to bod the number off effects for spels like dragon master and blood vengeance.
