Hi,

I was wondering what happens when a blow is successfully blocked by a shield. What protection is used to determine the damage taken ? Shield protection only, or shield + armor ?

Example :
a giant (strength 18) with a glaive (damage 7) hits a guy with a shield (protection 15) in chain mail (protection 9).

how much damage is dealt ? Is it:
((18+7)+2d6) - (15+2d6) = 10 +2d6 -2d6
or
((18+7)+2d6) - ((15+9)+2d6) = 1 +2d6 -2d6
or is it something else ?

I just want to know if troops that do a lot of damage with a low-ish attack fare well or poorly vs shield wielding troops. In the first case, even blocked, the blow would probably kill the defender. In the second case, the defender would surely survive.

Speaking of this, does anyone know how hits (beside shield hits) are determined? Head, body

Usually 20% chance to hit head, 80% chance to hit body. There are some rare exceptions, iirc a size one guy cant hit a size 4 Jotun in the head.

but does that mean a size one unit is more likely to give a size 4 unit a hit in the leg and give him a limp?
