Instead of gift of health healing mechanical beings,or a priestess, would it not make since that some races could repair them at a lab for resources or gold if a unit with a certain designation was present?

Say Ulm, Argatha, and other races that seem attuned to having mechanical beings, had certain units of these races could have a "repair" designation and fix things that are wrong with mechanical units, like missing arm etc. if a lab was present in the province.

Nice idea.

Or perhaps make it so that any commander could repair mechanical units with nations such as Ulm and Agartha getting some sort of bonus? Aswell as requiring a lab the repair action should also drain resources.

Nice idea, and constructs already get some similar exceptions. However, it should be automatic. Perhaps draining unused resources from the province, like fixing spell-broken armor, but only limited to provinces with labs.

Creatures that have both "does not heal" and "magic being" tags will automatically heal (regain hitpoints) whenever they are in a province with a friendly lab. Most constructs with "does not heal" are also magic beings.

Units whose armor has been broken (Armor of Achilles, Acid Storm) need to be in a province with unused resources to get them fixed.

actauly I'm fairly sure you need to bring your men to a fort to have their equipment replaced.
