There is no better time to step into the multiplayer arena than now! Velusion is hosting a massive 60 player game that is accepting players currently.

This would be a really great way for people who had reservations about multiplayer to get their feet wet because the size of the game will make for slow game pace, relative safety for a good portion of the game to develop your nation, and the possibility of seeing some of the mid - late game tactics no matter your skill level.

There will be potentially 60 human players. The diplomatic possibilities and just the general scope of a game like this is phenomenal. I implore the SP community to use this as your opportunity to try MP play. The more the merrier. This game will be somewhat historic because of the scale, and all of us, no matter our skill level should see things happen we have never seen happen in an MP game before because an MP game like this has never existed.

To sign up, just go to this thread and read the directions in the initial post.

Yes I dont see this as a game that will really be that much of a "I won by strategy" thing. And Im not seeing the experts jump in to prove their pet theories of what can be abused either. It definetly looks like a good game for new people to join.

It's very tempting, but if I know I'll be going on holiday for a month in the summer, is it better not to join?

I wouldn't let that stop you, since it's usually not too hard to find replacements/subs. Though if everyone is playing in the game, it might be hard to find someone that's not already playing! Another option you might have is to later become a replacement for a player that has to drop out, though that has its obvious disadvantages.

Chances are there will be quite a number of eliminated players by then... so one of those might be able to takeover/sub for you.

Usually if your position is good, finding a replacement or sub isn't that hard and if your position is bad... well... no big loss to go on AI.

You do not want to join this game if you will be gone for longer than a couple days in the first month however.

I'll try to join (can I be Niefelheim?) once my wife and I get moved into our new house. If I can find the time, it sounds great to me.

You can put niefelheim as your first choice but it will be very popular so dont expect to get it(although you could).

I think I'd better wait until I know my situation.

Just a heads up, there are 9 spots left in the Perpetuality game with 3 days left to snag them. That is 51 players so far! Be sure to reserve your spot, they are going fast http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Being late should bring out the solo players. You arent likely to get a choice pick on a nation at this point. But getting a random leftover nation means you get to play with a ready excuse. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Even if you sign up now, you will still have the same chance as everyone else of getting the nation you want. Who gets what nation will be randomly decided by the host using a seeding system on random.org.

How many times are you going to even have the option to play in a 60 player game?

I would expect this to be a once in a lifetime chance. Although if this game goes well, I expect there will be a few more that follow it.

Personally I expect it to crash. Thats a long game and will take a LOT of computer to process the turns. Of course, the computer its on might upgrade 2 or 3 times while the game is running also. And Id expect a few patches during the course of the game.

Hmmmmm I wonder if I can join as Formosa. Come to think of it, Im pretty sure I can. Might be rough to hold onto until the nation gets patched in but it would be fun to have it in place for the upgrade.

Such pessimism Gandalf. I fully expect Velusion to be running a top of the line Core Duo that will easily handle this big game. At least I hope so http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Actually - that is what I'm running. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I would be very surprised if it crashed due to lack of resources (something I've never seen).

It just might take about 10-15 minutes to process a turn...

Only 7 spots and 2 days left to reserve your place. Act now so we can have a no AI game and some good times http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
