First off - new user here, so please bear with me.

Now then. Installed. Patched. Start tutorial.

Play around a little... battle... exit to main map. map is empty. Every single icon, button, label - gone. just the map.
*grumble* Must be a glitch. CTRL-ALT-DEL out. restart. Continue turn. Select comman... gone. Again, at a seemingly random moment, the map get cleared. I can press keyboard commands and maybe things happen, but I don't see anything. No popups either. Just the map.

Searched the forums but found nothing like it - obviously, I can't search worth.. well, little. Or this is a first, which seems unreasonable.

W2K SP4.
Geforce Ti4200 with latest 6.14.10.9371 drivers.

Any aid is higly appreciated!

Are you any relation to Jack Sparrow? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

If not, contact shrapnel tech support.

In case you didn't realise, the Jack Sparrow bit is the suggestion that you have in fact pirated the game.

If this is the case, there's nothing that can be done to help you; the game is designed to glitch for people who have bad (ie pirated) cdkeys. So I wouldn't bother pretending otherwise.

If not,.. maybe someone will have an answer other than 'buy the game if you want to play it'. But I sort of doubt it -shrug-

A bad CD key can also happen from a dirty system (hasnt been optimized after much use). You might try deleting the file called "key" and then when you start the game it will ask you to reinput the key from your manual.

Oh... well. That gives me two questions:

1) If my key is pirated, how do I find out or whodunnit?
2) I deleted the key. Re-entering it pops up a message I need to NOT use the numeric pad... which my laptop does not have...

If you have a manual (300 pages, ring binder), you have a legit copy. If you don't, then the copy is pirated. If you use the laptop's normal number keys to enter the numbers, you should be okay. Any furher questions should be addressed to Shrapnel Games technical support.

If you got the "number pad" error on a laptop then you might have to turn off some sort of a "numlock" key so it can read them right.

Beats me what went on. It runs on the desktop properly - oh well. Who needs a laptop anyway - I sure ain't gonna format the thing.

Thanks for the efforts.
