- Aha, the Lawgiver hear the trembling of a frightened Caelum. Soon you will be devoured as well!
- Please ignore the voice of the horror that calls you from the broken tomb. The priests of Mictlan has no ill will towards your proud nation. The horror from the crypt is in no position to devour your nation.

Hmm, is it common to ask for subs? I see your point about me playing several nations 30 turns, but there is also a point of me continuing. I have never played a game which lasted more than 60 turns IIRC. It was long time since I played MP and I hae always played with victory conditions. Either VP's or cumulative VP's (my personal favourite). So it is quite educational playing with more powerful spells than I'm used to. I have never faced a tartarian, only seen arcane nexus and utterdark in dom-ppp, where research was quicker. I also tended to play with slow research in dom2, to avoid the great impact of magic.
I intend to focus on MA Ulm next. Quantum Mechanic invited me for blizing this weekend. I will most likely be there (although it might depend on if JK returns from India). Feel free to join for some gaming and IRCing (which I'm not very used to http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ).

Hmm, I'm still not entirely comfortable using the patch, at least not against my current enemies.
I think I will do as follows: I will avoid from using the patch in my current wars and give the rest of you knowledge of what has been altered, so you can prepare, should you feel inclined to attack me.
Heroes: two shape shifting coatls, one with 3N3S3P2F and one 3N3S3P2A. Unlikely to appear, since my scales are unlucky.
Sky Priest: 2A2P flying, 160g, home only.
Mictlan priest: FWNS random -> FAWNS random
Jade Serpent: Sacred summon. 2W, Conj 4, 5 gems, about as powerful a sea serpent, but no fear, can enter water, sacred.
Eagle Warriors: Something will happen to eagle warriors. Either loose home only, or switch home only with jaguar warriors. Compensates MA a bit for not having easy access to sacred demon fliers. A bit worried that it is too powerful though. They are pretty offensive with heavy blesses.
Moon warrior: Nonsacred heavy (by mictlan standards) elite infantry. Scale hauberk, 2h obsidian sword, 50 darkvision, 12 MR. No ranged weapon. Recruitable anywhere.
I'm thinking about possible changes on the Coatl, but nothing so far. I have an idea of separating the coatl of Mictlan from the c'tissian one.

Oops, I staled again (I'm subbing for my old nation of Atlantis since Remmy has disappeared). Sorry, major error! I'm getting unusually confused since the e-mails are still set to go to Remmy's address. Think I will switch it back to me, since he shows no signs of reappearing.
PS Mictlan stuff sounds great, and I have no concerns about it at all. Thanks so much for working on it!

Horror!
The hopes of Mictlan might forever have been crushed! The Saviour is nom More! Great GrayZ, the Rider of Clouds is riding clouds no more, destroyed by the monstrosity from the grave, Prince of Pestilence. We are now without divine guidance and unable but to follow the lead the Persecutor and Destroyer of Youth.
Totl now treads the red carpet prepared for Him Who Was at the Center, He Who Is no More, rmemembered be His name.
All Hail Totl, Lord of Light, Enemy of Darkness!

I should be able to do my turn then.

The gracious Aethyr will now be playing Atlantis. The nation will be reinvigorated, and all will tremble at the name. Muwahaha!
PS Apologies again that I didn't carry on playing. First game I've ever dropped out of - I just got a big bogged down and really wanted to avoid it becoming a job. Have a good game guys - and if I were you I would fear Totl! (I love your posts Kristoffer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ).

We also fear him!
The apparition seems to have allied with independent necromancers. Two months ago his first dreaded minion arrived with a horde of soulless Mictlan peasants, the hapless victims of his Ill will. The evil mage now resides in our capital where he has entered the Tomb of Totl to cast a great spell upon himself, uttering a promise not to die as long as Totl leads the world to darkness.
Last month another necromancer arrived at the gates of one of Great GrayZ's castles, denying his retreating troops access to the safety of the walls, effectivelt crushing his entire army and the Righteous, the Mighty, the Unconquered Cu Chulainn, prophet of the Earth Monster, slayer of Totls enchanted Minions; between the hammer of Totl's mictlan slaves and his evil necromancer minion.
If your lands has been attacked by independent necromancers, you must be aware that it is not a random event. It is surely the malice of the Prince of Pestilence that haunts your lands. Ill luck has come to us as well as our enemies. As spoken by Saturn:
Mine are the maladies that kill with cold
The dark deceits, the strategms of old.

R'lyeh has fallen, the evil Lizards of C'tis crushed our last fighting army. As this message is written, all remaining starspawns are fleeing this land into the deap sea of the great ocean.
It was a good game, as long as it lasted, and the next time i will play rlyeh, i will make sure that i will be able to mind hunt.

And so the world is rid from an unspeakable menace from beyond, and the golden age under the wise and farseeing leadership of Sankriss, God of Invincible Power, He Who Is at the Center, Prince of Excellence, Bringer of Misfortune, God of Patience draws ever closer.
The surviving population of the sadly demised nation will be given the opportunity to give a positive meaning to their existence, and will be allowed to join the construction crews who will be erecting great Ziggurats in honor of The Divine One. Those who prove hardy enough to adapt to the live in our hot and humid swamps are surely greatly blessed, and will be allowed to serve the Priests of C'tis until the day of their death.

Heh? When did the hosting time change back to an earlier hour from 23.00 GMT? Here I was, playing my turn in no particular rush, and then manage to send it in 15 minutes after hosting, thinking I had 2 hours to spare http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
(yeah, yeah, I know, I could have paid attention to the mails delivering my turns, I know. I just hadn't expected the hour to change without announcement. Does this program actually following the quickhosting procedure? I was convinced it didn't do that, and only hosted at the appointed time. )
Luckily this wasn't the most crucial time to stale a turn, though it's allways annoying of course. But in any case I'd like to request a few hours extension on next turn (23.00 GMT again should do I guess), since I won't be able to play my turn in the early evening tomorrow.

You're right, it has gone fast. Might have something to do with the crowded map, maybe? Or not. Anyhows, I won't object to 48h, though until now I haven't had troubles with the pace, so for now either way is fine with me.

It seems reasonable to go to 48 hour quickhost. If no one objects I'll make the change for turn 48.
Kristoffer O
July 31st, 2007, 09:28 PM
I'm for 48 quickhost. My vacation is about to end.
I find myself spending about 2 h on a turn. Probably because I still have vacation, but I don't think I could get them down below 1 h, unless I rushed them through. I might be a bit of a micromanager, but still ...
How do people manage to play more than one or two games at the same time by the way? Don't people have better things to do than play dominions http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I'm quite impressed with the speed of the game. Sad that there were some stalers.
---
I want to thank you all for the game, before any more turns AI or leaves. I've had a very good time so far. It has brought the joy of dominions back http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I haven't played for so long, I almost had forgotten how fun the game can be. I have also learned a lot, and gotten useful inspiration.
Is anyone here interested in AAR's or sum ups, look at my turns afterwards or something? I wouldn't mind sharing or looking at others turns when the game is over. I still have my .trn files from the last 20 turns or so in my mail.
Unfortunately, I have gotten rid of my first 20 or so. A bit of a pity, since they were quite crucial for my currrent developments. So a it wouldnt be a very good AAR.

Well, I'll be...
You'll probably have noticed from the ruckus I raised yesterday that I managed to stale my turn... more or less. Here's the story of what really happened:
I played my turn without being in any rush, finished it, and mailed it to the server. Then I went into the kitchen, grabbed an apple, ate it, (estimated time: 3-4 minutes) and came back to the computer to check my gmail, where I found out the latest turn had already been sent. I cursed, I checked the latest messages, and noticed that the hosting wasn't scheduled at 23.00 anymore. So I came to the forums to vent, and then crawled into bed.
Today I download the new turn (and bemoan my bad luck about just missing the host once more), and after a quick peek at the forums start up dominions and the Armadillo game.
Where I notice that all my orders have been given. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif
So... I appologise to all of you for the loud noises I made, and props to Llama, for running the server that hosts quicker than his shadow. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Or at least quicker than my numb brain can comprehend, apparently.

This message is sent as a courtesy, and out of respect for my predecessor who I am proud to name “friend”.
To my allies: all existing agreements with the nation of Atlantis will be honored for as long as those worthy beings desire. My allies need not fear.
To all the rest: I come.
While my beloved waves are and shall ever be my home, I come. You may think yourselves safe because I am not (at present) on your border. Do not be a fool. Just as the sea spray rises invisibly into heaven to later fall as rain upon all lands, so shall my armies fall upon your nations. Oceania’s time is almost done. I come.
Lawgiver, the waves whisper your name. I can scarce believe what they say. We have prepared a special place for you, down in the deep where sunlight is but a myth. Soon, yes very soon, you shall be our special guest. Yessssss.
I come

August 10th, 2007, 01:07 PM
I believe we're sorted. I dug the file out myself, checked it and sent it manually.
So, I've had this problem just one time before - a particular turn file got corrupted even if sent repeatedly, but at the server end the file was fine. I'm completely stumped as to how to fix it, because I can't work out what might be going on. That other time I even temporarily switched the address to mine and resent it and it was fine. It was as if it was allergic to that particular combination of that e-mail address (normally fine) and that file (fine for other addresses). Very odd. Maybe some subtle bug in the e-mail sending code.

It is the duty of the priests of Mictlan to inform the peoples of the world that Laws and bountiful rewards has been brought to the world. With laws comes order and hiearchy. With hiearchy comes division of labor. With division of labor comes comfort for the people.
Food is being imported from seven continents and no one needs to work.
Abandon your abominations and false prophets, for Totl is here to redeem you.
Follow the lawgiver and comfort will be granted you as you seat yourself on the thrones of the world.
Deny Him and you will be the trodden, the lost and the unenlightenable, treated in accordance with your spiritual development.
As rulers of the world, you will be glorified and served by the masses, given food and luxury. You will get all goodness in life.
See the example of Teoxl, Voice and Prophet of Totl. He is thrice blessed. Once with flaming eyes, for his hatred of the dark.
Twice with choking breath, for his hatred of the young.
Thrice with a body weight of five men.
He is given pleasures innumerable.
He is given food from seven continents.
He is given a bed of Jade with blankets of Lard.
Come to Totl, and you will be given Girth of unequalled proportions.

Unprovoked aggression can only be assumed to be coming to the land of the Bakemono from the recent cancellation by C'tis of their peace pact with Shinuyama.
To my neighbors who think that this does not concern them, do I need to point out that Ermor, Pangaea or perhaps even Caelum will be the next target in C'tis' machinations?
Shinuyama is willing to negotiate rights of passage through our lands so that C'tis may be struck by all of us, NOW, before we are all taken by them, one by one.

I tried deleting my old turn first, and then downloading, but that just gives me an empty game. I tried having my turn resent, but that gives the same problem. Message from a high priest of C'tis to the Ermorian Senate (Ermor still has a senate in MA, right?):
And it came to pass that, upon coursing high through the night skies on his way to wreak havoc upon his enemies, Sankriss, God of invincible power, got distracted pondering the misteries of the universe, and dived through the cloud cover further north than he had intended to. As a result of this distraction, instead of killing the enemies he intended to find, an innocent Ermorian patrol got brutally slaughtered.
While the short lives of mere mortals are hardly noticed by beings such as the exalted Sankriss, God of Patience, and thus the ending of these lives doesn't hold much meaning for him, we, his subjects, understand the pain of the loved ones who are left behind. Therefore we profusely appologise for the inadvertently caused loss of life within your lands, and humbly ask your forgiveness for this tragic incident.

Atlanitis thought because Arco is at the bottom of the graphs we have no teeth. Perhaps 300 casualities will teach them a lesson. Or do they need thier armies to be routed a few more times?
Kristoffer O

Casualties in the hundreds are regular losses, at least where the Lawgiver reigns. It has been so since the days Mictlan was ruled by GrayZ. Dwarves, Vanir or Seraphs, they are all fooled by the belief that widespread slaughter of the enemy forces will win you the war. Perhaps you share their misconception.

Yes, it should only give crippled affliction, not feeblemind affliction. Still I am not complaining... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Lord Flashheart beloved of the Seraph has come to his current sad state after single handedly fighting a troll horde, lead by a troll king. After slaughtering the trolls with ease, the Troll King stepped up and smashed Lord Flashheart with one of the greatest blows ever seen. Dazed and confused Lord Flasheart ripped the Troll King into many pieces but ever since that day, his actions have been somewhat erratic and he has a tendenancy to dribble....
The Seraph vow that one day Lord Flasheart will be whole again...no matter how long it takes. Even now we seek the Spenta of the Healing Waters.

The feeblemind was only a side effect of 3 an dmg. It should give the entire army limp or cripple depending on MR. I rather fight limp and crippled mammoths than mammoths with 1 p dmg. I think the spell is fixed now, but unfortunately penetration bonus doesn't work on secondary spell effects (IIRC). Also it is mundane dmg, so fog warriors doesn't get removed by it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
> Btw is Forest Dome working as intended?
Yep, I blocked one of my own cloud trapezes and had a laugh a couple of turns back. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Also Frost dome works as intended. My mages casting raging hearts had flame skulls giving them fire susceptibility regardless of their frost rings. It took me a while to understand what happened. I actually looked in the code to see if frost domes were not cold dmg.

The Lawgiver is silent due to a missing head, or at least a missing brain. Several months ago his head was split open during a ritual of his own. The great spell was supposed to break every bone within a mile, but the ancient spell was a spell-trap. The Lawgivers head cracked and his dried fig-like brain fell out and was lost. He now juggles with his skull and hisses incomprehensibly at his chosen. He has been this way for more than six months, and still no brain has been found.
The Cedar Pillars and their circle of mages and unfrozen have been claimed by high seraphs and sorceresses. According to the stone spheres, things are once again growing in the aelian lands, the seven year blight having ended prematurely.
The Gargoyles have met their match in horrible revenants claimed from the halls of the underworld. Others have met their opposite selves and been annihilated by the diametrical force.
In short: Mictlan is slowly crumbling and without leadership. C'tis is gobbling up other weak pretender states and is probably in position to decide the game by attacking or allying himself with another player.
I find myself having less spare time, due to work and stuff.
It has been very educational. I realize I'm a mid game player. I try to stick to mid game strategies, ignore artifacts and items and expect troops to be useful http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I also play better when I have time to think and when I play continously. I'm less efficient with 48h hosting and even less with 72. Still I'm glad we have 72 now. Summer was better for me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Wow, poor Lawgiver. That sounds pretty grim.
Yeah, I also find 48h, and especially 72h hosting tends to make me much less efficient. And in my (very limited) late game experience troops still can be useful, but you really have to have Army of Lead, Fog Warriors and other buffs up every battle for them to stand a chance. The late game is an interestingly different challenge, I'm still trying to get the knack of it.

The Mammoths has been given the law, and is following the law. All hail the Lawgiver!
This soft new brain might even have a solution for the Tartarian prison break!
And Teotl, prophet of the Lawgiver is proclaiming a new creed. From the skies, Abode of the Lawgiver, harsh justice will fall as lightning andf thunder. Soon all will cherish as the heavens turns ominious and full of meanings only grasped by those true of heart!
All hail the Lawgiver! Lord of the Light!

I'm sorry to be a bother again, but how would you guys feel about another delay in the game, till friday afternoon/evening if possible? It's not that I'm absolutely unable to play, so if people prefer not to delay I'll be able to turn something in, but I am feeling a bit pressured lately, with little time off, and playing dominions is becoming something of a chore, which is a shame for such an amazing game. (not that I'm sucking up to Kristoffer in the hope he supports my proposal or anything. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ) I have the day off work on friday, so an extension would allow me to relax a bit this week, and then play my turn at ease on friday. Btw is anyone really bothered about winning the game? A strange question, but I just play for the fun of it.
I was saving this as a surprise but if our western alliance of myself, Pangaea and Atlantis defeats Ctis, I was going to offer Valerius or Aethyr the oppourtunity of taking the solo win, ie...step aside.
Do not take this as any doubt about my stamina to keep playing! I have done most of my turn already, any extra is just additional micro.
This game now eats 3+hrs of my time (I do it in bits, more fun) and I would prefer to devote that to new games. The first 50 turns or so are my favourite part of the game.

Amhazair, of course I will delay hosting. I'll postpone it two days, to 23:25 GMT Friday. Let me know if you need more time.
Meglobob, I agree the first 50 turns are the most fun. As far as winning goes I was going to give it a shot but C'tis has outfight Atlantis and myself and I think my opportunity to catch up to you has passed.
It's kind of you to offer Atlantis or myself the win but you've been the strongest ally all along and you would deserve the win. Practically speaking, even if Atlantis and I both fought you I don't think we could win.
Amhazair and Meglobob, the two of you have played the best game and I think one or both of you deserve the victory.

Thanks guys, you have both been great allies!
At the moment, either myself (Caelum), Pangaea and Atlantis will defeat Ctis and then declare one of us winner or Ctis will defeat the 3 of us and win.
That will probably take another 40 turns and, 'solid turns' of effort to force the win. Probably looking at about enough, 'real life hours' to equal the 80 odd turns we have already played.
Do we want to play it out?
What do you think Amhazair?
Sometimes, I think its better to call a game then let it 'fizzle' out or the turns become a 'chore'.

No need to sell yourself short. While I have indeed been able to deal with everything you sent into my lands, you've certainly made me think twice about taking you on in the water, even the little inland seas that used to be mine.

Well, even though I'm the one most often requesting extensions, I think we should wait at least a few turns before pulling the plug. Playing a few more turns will probably show wether you're right and I'm as closely matched with your qualiotion as you think I am. Personally, I'm not convinced that is the case. This war against Pangaea and Atlantis is taking a lot of resources, and now that you have decided to join in the fun I might be heading towards my doom. In a couple of turns we might be able to clearly see that the three of you will beat me in the end, in which case we have a clear win(ning coalition) - and thus a more satisfying ending, especially for the winners of course. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif If it turns out that things are indeed very close and no side holds the upper hand, well we can still talk about ending it then.

Ey, Bob! Don't do that without anouncing your intent first. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
If you really didn't want to play on anymore, I for my part would have settled for finishing it and calling it a draw. (Don't know if the others would prefer/have prefered to play on) I just didn't realise, from the way you phrased things, that you were this close to calling it quits.
Often, when a war starts, you can see after the first few turns how it will turn out, and I wanted to give you and your allies the chance to claim the win, and concede if things went badly in the first 3-4 turns. And, if things didn't go badly for me in those first 3-4 turns, we could still have ended it at that point if people prefered it that way - In the knowledge that a quick resolution was unlikely and that a draw was a roughly fair reflection of our strengths.
Now, since apparently your mind was already elsewhere after all, what do you guys (Valerius/Aethyr especially)want to do? Call it a day, split the pie, and drink a round of beers in brotherhood? Or play on with a radically changed situation, in what essentially would be a different game? Either suits me fine.

Aethyr and Meglobob, you were great allies - it was fun working together. Good game, everyone.
I had tons of fun in this game myself too. I've been at war with one nation or another without stop from turn 6 or so. (hey, we knew it was a crowded map when we started out) I had my first experience of facing a water nation on equal terms (R'lyeh), and for the first time ever I managed to dominionkill someone (Arco). I also seriously liked the swampy background flavor - and playing style - of MA C'tis (I hadn't played them before) and also had fun dealing with it's funky dominion. (Good call on the design Kristoffer, it forces you into some thinking that's unique to the nation) Then of course there was the seriously schizophrenic thread talk by the confused nation of Mictlan to lighten up ones' day. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif And with all of that it was still only midgame.
Valerius, you're not the only one who found our war educational. With all your different earthquakes, bloodlettings, wrathfull skies and master enslaves you managed to cause horendous losses on my numerically superior and magically diverse armies. I felt I had to pay a terrible price for each yard of blooddrenched ground I gained. And I was definitely seriously inconvenienced by loosing GoH and the Chalice. I cursed a lot at loosing them, and I lost a lot of options because of it. Oh, and I did not expect the master enslave, otherwise I would not have dared enter your castle. In fact, I went in without scouting it out first somewhat against my better judgement, because in between Caelum just having declared war, and your three assesins killing of some of my best mages I didn't feel I had the luxury of wasting time. That was one gamble that seriously didn't pay off though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
Aethyr: I'm glad you enjoyed the education. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I remember actually reaching endgame in my first MP game in a strong position, and then suddenly being hit by veteran Calmon in the clash to win the game. It felt like being run over by a truck... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Injured.gif
Kristoffer: It's been really fun to see you taking part in forum stuff so much over the summer. Two of the friends I talked to about this game went to download the demo just because 'wow, the developper actually talks to you and plays with you?' Unfortunately this isn't the kind of game that will appeal to them, but still, the point remains. Good luck surviving work now that you've returned to it.
Meglobob: Damn you. Since the moment I started realising that Pangaea and Atlantis were going to cost me lots of time, effort, and resources to beat - and thus started to expect you to win this game - I've been looking forward to congratulating you on your win, and then being able to add: 'but now you can't go around telling people how I allways beat you anymore' But now you've cheated me out of that pleasure too! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think I would like a LA game. Perhaps with slow research. At least if the game is as big as this one was.
But it is perhaps better if I play with standard settings. And I think MA Ulm is in more need of aid. Also I have more ideas for them in store atm.
No need to be impressed. The relative strengths of nations are not that important. Position, neighbours, diplomacy, opportunities and sheer luck (I had a lot of this early on) are way more important.
