Some questions thought. Are any mods in use (like CB or WH)? They aren't mentioned in the main post. If they aren't in use do I need to turn them off before I make my turn?

Burnsaber - mods will turn themselves on/off automatically for each game as you open it. The only time you ever need to turn them on or off manually is when you create a new game yourself.

the game is willing to take the site name in place of the IP address. It should be able to look up the IP from that.
Be sure that you have gone to the Game Tools menu and created your god first. When you are joining a game like this it does not stop and let you build it.

A lizard killed my family, all my friends, and everyone and everything I ever cared about, on my birthday, which happens to fall on Christmas, which-coincidentally-is also the date of my Bar-Mitzvah, which is where I lost my virginity to the only woman I'll ever love, who was also killed by more lizards who showed up (and looked just like you), and they did so in an even more unspeakable way than all the rest, and then the lizards told me that Santa Claus, Jesus, and the tooth-fairy don't really exist, and that they were (collectively) my father.
Plus, you taste like chicken.

It was Slith who started it all by bursting in, demanding crack, and killing my grandparents when they wouldn't give him any. My grandparents needed that crack! they had a crack prescription for their hearts! So Slith *ate* their hearts!
Sure, maybe at one point in time he had been a paladin, but he turned into a huge heart-eating crackhead!
Crack didn't kill my grandparents-lizards killed my grandparents!
...Mmmm I love beef liver. I was just thinking last night how beef liver would be really good if you deep-fried it. So you taste like beef liver, eh? Do your children taste like sweet, tender calves' liver? I bet they do!

Let's get this game started
---------------
[A spaceship carrying a 100 foot tall silver robot had just landed in, or should I say on, a rather expensive chunk of London real estate, specifically Knightsbridge and more particularly, Harrod’s:...]
"I come in peace," it said, adding after a long moment of further grinding, "take me to your Lizard."
Ford Prefect, of course, had an explanation for this, as he sat with Arthur and watched the nonstop frenetic news reports on television, none of which had anything to say other than to record that the thing had done this amount of damage which was valued at that amount of billions of pounds and had killed this totally other number of people, and then say it again, because the robot was doing nothing more than standing there, swaying very slightly, and emitting short incomprehensible error messages.
"It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see..."
"You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?"
"No," said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, "nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford. "It is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?"

Well, if Shovah was planning to be Helheim, but someone overwrote his pretender, he won't be able to get in and play if he doesn't have the password. If the person who overwrote Helheim didn't realize and/or doesn't intend to play, Helheim will always stale. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/fear.gif

I am Pangea. Us forest folk have been skirmishing with the evil Sauromatia for quite some time. Up until recently, that is, when the vast forces of Tir na n'Og invaded Sauromatia's capital and killed his god. At first, I was grateful, of course, but now I'm frightened--
Is Tir attacking two human players at once? And winning? Is there anyone else fighting him that I should know about?
Burnsaber
July 25th, 2007, 04:33 PM
Hail everyone! I just want to say that you have no reason to be afraid of the fair folk, bother us not and you shall not be bothered. I only attacked Sauromatia because I accidentally thought he was AI (embarrasing, I know). Peace negotiations are now underway and I'm certain that we can come to an agreement.
Abysia, our aggressor, lost his troops to storms, rain and thunder. They fought bravely and with unseen fury (even after getting 2 thunderstrikes to their heads they kept on going!), but their everburning flame now flickers in the wind raising from the east.
Arcosephale seems to be gathering his troops on our border. I hope they're not plannig anything foolish that'll get them killed... Bother us not, and we shall not bother you.
CUnknown
July 25th, 2007, 04:40 PM
Excuse me for not sounding sympathetic to the plight of the Sauromatian people.. but..
Why bother being diplomatic with Sauromatia, Burnsaber? You've already killed his god and are seiging his capital, why not just finish the job? The Warrior Women will be enslaved shortly, either by you, or if not they will surely fall victim to the lure of Pan's flute and join my growing army of meneads. Sauromatia as a nation is doomed either way.
Tuidjy
July 25th, 2007, 09:23 PM
Up until we heard of your message, we were gathering the troops that retreated from
the assault on Tien Chi. Yes, we know, it's a lot of troops. But most of our
archers ran... it seems that once you give a man a bow, he becomes a coward. Note
that not one single female archer ran.
And on next month, we fully expect to use the gathered troops to assault the last
Tien Chi holdouts on our border. At this time, our citizens have not decided to
declare war on Tin Na Nog. Keep threatening us, keep talking about how easily you
will kill us, and they just may vote to put our military to the test.
Your mages are not the only ones that know the secrets of lighting, and ours
know quite a few things beside that.

been unable to handle all the diplomacy, and even stalled once or twice.
My job has taken a lot of my time, lately, and this particular game is suffering.
Not that I am doing poorly or anything... Would you guys terribly mind if I let
a friend take over? He is a MP newbie, but not terrible or anything.

Welcome to the game, Nikolai. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif I think you just stalled a turn. I'd be careful about that in the future as it hurts your position and also slows the game down for everyone.

I'm going down soon. Wow, what a mistake on my part to start a war with the nation that can easily cast storm and mist.
I also learned not to divide your army when facing an opponent you can't see.
I'm going to fight this out to the end with Tir Na Nog, which should only be a few more turns.

Abysia has defeated the siege. At least momentarily. I think the earthquake killed the mage that would have cast mist which made a nice difference I think. Unfortunately that was the last of our earth gems so we are reduced to summoning more fire drakes. What was once 250 enemies sieging our capital has been reduced to 50. Tir Na Nog should be prepared for a very long siege indeed.

Or perhaps not. Those 50 men sieging your capitol now are merely reinforcements. My sieging force fleed, but they'll come back, with friends. Props for putting up a hell of a fight, thought. Those assasins really caught me with my pants down and the things they did.. were not pleasant. I simply wept when my Rain caster decided to follow his script in an assasination fight.
And if it makes you feel any better, that was my only W2 mage. I've recruited like 20+ Bean Sidhes and only got one with water random. Well, who needs W2 mages when you have W1 mages and Water Bracelets?
I'll see you at fields of glory. Your end shall be swift as a sign of our respect.

The forest folk were told of that battle by a harpy scout who managed to fly into the cave fortress undetected. Apparently there were many fireworks going off, cast from both sides. I pity the poor footsoldiers who had to endure that bombardment!
Can I have the charred remains shipped to my capital, by the way? My minotaurs would love such crispy flesh burgers.

To Tibbs: Your God really got a epic ending. He didn't shamefully get beaten by some chaff of mine. Left with a bang. I was a bit scared at the end that my armies would flee due to friendly fire. That last unlikely hit was truly epic!
R'lyeh has cast Arcane Nexus! The non-tentacled people must unite against this threat, if we let it stay, he wins. It's just that simple. No, it really is. Who has the highest Astral caster? (Not me. I can tell you that)

I haven't checked the turn yet.. but Ryleh cast Arcane Nexus, you say? *boggle*
That is obviously a huge problem. I'm not quite sure what we can do about it, though.. unless someone has a bunch as astral gems around to dispel it. I suppose we could all pool astral gems and dispel it. I don't have many to add to the pool, though.
Another possibility is to simply all gang up and kill him. If we all attack him, he doesn't stand a chance at this stage in the game.

I thought about it, and we only have one "astral" nation left that's not AI. Mictlan, and he has S1 casters (perhaps S2 with randoms). And I just killed the only S4 caster living on land. We can't dispel it.
So we are left with only one option. Good old fashioned gang-bang. It's not fair for R'lyeh, but it is the only way the rest of us have any chance in this game.
I'm sorry if I'm being blunt, but this is the sad truth. IF WE DON'T KILL R'LYEH NOW, WE ALL LOSE. So sacrifices have to made, by all sides. He must have used all his research to reach Enchanment. We must take action now, before he can find more uses for his gems.
So, I hereby present the HVTM (Humanoids Versus Tentacled Monsters), alliance against R'lyeh. Here are the rules (which are negotiable).
1) No non-AI nation vs non-AI nation aggression until R'lyeh is done for. Going untewater is har enough without someone stabbing your back. (I know this would mean that I'd made peace with Abysia, this will happen, if he can make a case why he would be a notable ally against R'lyeh.)
2) Nations with shore-line must either a) let some non-shore-line nation access to shore by allowing them to conquer a line of provinces to the shore (the no-shore-line doing the conquering is entitled to give gold equal to the provinces income to the province-giver). b) Put ALL resources into assaulting underwater. Or the best, both.
3) Nations with no-shoreline (like me), must either a) negotiate a way to get a shoreline and assault underwater with all might or b) support shore-line nations with waterbreathing-items and far-attack spells (I have enough Air casters and gems to forge 4-5 Barrels of Air, after that, it's Manual Water-Breathing until I run out of gems).
4) Put all non-blood, non-astral gem usage to BARE ULTIMATE minimum. Only use gems to spank R'lyeh. He will get just enough gems from the water-item forging and summons we need to use.
5) We probably have to use E-mails to coordinate our efforts. My e-mail is burnasber(at)hotmail(dot)com. Once we have everybody's e-mail addresses we can group send each other all relevant information. I'm willing to do most of the work, if need for more efforts rises.

Yeah, no way we're giving up yet, Nikolai! I have coastal provinces adjacent to him as well, although I don't have much underwater ability at the moment.
As far as I know, he doesn't have any land provinces. He's entirely ocean-based and is betting that we can't all team together to take him out underwater, apparently.
Does anyone -not- have provinces adjacent to him?
Honestly, though, I do think the best way to defeat his strategy is just to dispel it. I have 30 gems I can devote to a dispel (although I can't actually cast a dispel myself). Whoever has the highest astral caster should be the one we give our gems to. Maverni? Arcosephale? Who's got it? Clearly, we should be able to get a starshine skullcap, crystal coin, and Ring of Sorcery to the person who's going to do the Dispel. That's +3. Someone probably has a level-4 astral caster, so that would be level 7 total.
I think first we should try a cheap 40-gem dispel to see how many gems he's got tucked away in it. I mean, the thing costs 150 gems just by itself. If that fails, we all pool up like 400 gems and get rid of it. When he re-casts it, we do the same thing. If he knows we're going to dispel it, he's not going to keep casting it at 150 gems a pop.
Do people think that's a good idea, or would you rather do an underwater assault from all angles?
Burnsaber
August 21st, 2007, 02:14 AM
I'm not so experienced in global-dispelling, so I absolutely forgot that Dispel exists (thought we'd need something like S5-6 caster). Well, the first step is, of course, to find out how many gems does that beast-of-a-global have. (Mictlan hasn't reported to this thread, I'll send him an in-game message to check these forums).
Any volunteers to cast 40-gem dispel? If so, report here and cast it ASAP. I'm sure that we can divide the costs between all of us. I'm going to sen in-game message to Mictlan (Ubercat) to check these forums, he must have some astral gems.
I also suggest that everybody either PM's me how many astral gems and how much Astral income do they have (if they don't want to share that info with everybody) or just publicly tell it. We need to know if we can dispel it now, and if we can dispel it in the future, if he recasts it. I think he probably has something like 10-20 gems per turn of astral income (with Stellar Focus).
Since people will be sending me info, I'll give some in return (to be fair). I have 28 astral gems. And not much of a astral income (+1 gem per turn). I won't be giving any info you give me for any third party.
If we can dispel it, cool. No need for gangbang then. If not, we need to discuss how to get underwater. I currently have access and gems to many summons with Poor Amphibian. + I can forge all water-breathing items. I have no shore-line, though. I'd need provinces 203, 221 and 229 to get shore access.

People have PM'd me some info. And it doesn't look too bright. Unless Ulm (he hasn't contacted me) has super-horde of astral (highly unlikely) gems we need to sacrifice all our gems to the greater good. It's all or nothing!
Since Tyrant was first to volunteer, he will be the one dispelling. On turn 42, send all of your astral gems to him (also known as Maverni). If Arcane Nexus is still rolling in turn 43, we'll have to take military action.

No, we need to exceed the amount of extra gems he put into the Nexus + 30 to cast the Dispell. I've got 35, so whatever i recieve from the rest of you will need to exceed his extra gems. We will also get a samll bonus from my caster's level. Tyrant, don't you think we should try a small dispel first (like maybe 40-50 gems total)? If that fails, we could save up for a larger one. I'd be happy to donate 10 gems for the small dispel. I don't think we should put, say 100 gems into the dispel -- that could end up being a waste of gems. I don't mind wasting 50 gems, that is small potatoes. If that fails we should save up maybe 300-400 gems collectively and cast it again.

Well, that means he has the minimum (or close to it) in his Stellar Focus. Let's dispel that one, at least. 40-50 gems should do it. Better yet, someone should over-cast it.
Everyone besides the person over-casting Stellar Focus, start saving your astral gems until we get 300.
In addition (just to be safe), the anti-Ryleh offensive should begin immediately. I can send some mechanical men down there. It won't be a whole lot of guys, but I can open up another front on him.
Ulm, are you adjacent to him at all? I feel a little guilty for cancelling our NAP at a time like this, but I have land forces that have nothing to do--they'd be useless against Ryleh anyway. My centaurs are thirsty for blood, I can't control them!

Okay we need to make some serious offense. Start making and taking plans for how to get underwater. I'm also quite sure that we need to coordinate our efforts. Could member of HATE send me their e-mail? Group-sending e-mails to the other HATE members seem to be best method of communication. We can't use the forums because, R'lyeh reads them too.
And I'd really like to see Panganea and Ulm make truce. If we want to kill R'lyeh before he finds really good uses to his gems, we are going to need everybody's help. I can forge water-breathing items for all parties. I need Charcoal Shields and Firebrands.

I'm sure that there are more experienced players here than me. I haven't never even assaulted underwater with a pure land-mongrel nation! Those of you who have done it, speak out! How do you deal with poor amphibians being nearly useless undewater, because even with Water-breathing items your national troops are useless underwater. What combat spells even work underwater? Damn, I need to do some research. Althought I read that Shark Attack is good.
What about summons? I have access to Naiad Warriors, are they any good?
CUnknown

Things I think I'm going to try: Sea King's Court, Pale Riders, Mechanical Men.. of course abominations if you have the research and the astral gems (I'm assuming no one does besides maybe Ryleh http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif)..
I don't know about Naiad Warriors, I imagine they are pretty decent..
There's always the Sea King's Goblet and the Barrel of Air to get your national troops underwater, too. And once you're underwater, you can recruit tritons. Probably the best bet, though, is to get thugs equipped with Rings of Water Breathing and magic resistance items and send them underwater by themselves or in small groups. I guess. I'm not really sure what we're going to do, lol.
Piercer is a crossbow that works underwater. Incinerate is a fire spell that works. Of course water magic would be the best if you've got it.
This is going to be a tough road to hoe.. but if we all get at least one or two underwater groups together, we can outnumber Ryleh and take some provinces, at least. Any strong army of his that you see, just run away from. Don't engage. He can't stop all of us at once. Once we whittle him down to a few provinces, we'd have to start winning some battles, admittedly. Hopefully we'll have a strategy together by that point to do so.
I still remember this one game I was in, where I won every single battle I was involved in and still lost the game, pretty early, too. I was under attack from Ermor in the north, and I moved to intercept his army. Defeated it. Then Pangea attacked me from the south and since I wasn't down there, he took over several of my provinces before I got there. Once I did, I defeated his army, but I was beat-up and had to retreat from his reinforcements. I went back to my capital and started summoning troops. He took the remainder of my provinces. I finally left my capital, won another battle, but got beaten up bad again. He had more reinforcements seige my capital. I broke seige, won again, but this time was down to only my god. He seiged me again and then dominion killed me.
That is the game that is most memorable to me, so frustrating because I won every single frickin' battle!!! But, if you are outnumbered, there is basically nothing you can do. I think we can take Ryleh down, just no one engage his armies if you can help it. The goal is to take provinces, not to fight.
Edit: I change my mind about over-casting Stellar Focus, he will just over-cast it over us! He's making stupid #'s of astral gems per turn. We just need to rush his punk a$$.

Guys! We agree to put all land warfare against players on hold, until R'lyeh is dead? And those who have no seaside, help with items? If Ulm and Pangaea will fight and feed gems to R'lyeh, I better fight my own war and wait for the hammer to fall when R'lyeh is ready to eat me.
I am in middle of R'lyeh lands, surrounded. I am not ready to fight under water, but I wil not even prepare, if we are not all into this war. I ask for items to go underwater. I will return them after war, and anyway, I can not use these item against people without seaside, can I? I have nice levels of construction, but little gems. And I have searched a lot.
If Marverni takes care of east side, and Pangaea attacks west side with me, and Ulm and Tir na Nog help with gem, and whoever else does what they can, we probably can do it. But there is no way I will waste time underwater while one of Pangaea and Ulm wins the other and gets twice as strong.
I propose peace to everyone on land until R'lyeh is dead (or until Astral Vortex goes down). But this counts only if EVERYONE is at peace. We freeze land holdings, and go to war against R'lyeh. Teach him to cast Astral Vortex!

If Ulm agrees to help fund the war against Ryleh, I agree to peace with him (our NAP hasn't even expired yet, there have been no hostilities so far).
But, letting him sit on a vast and somewhat poorly defended empire with a huge gem income while he researches the spells he'll need to be successful in the endgame while the rest of us bang our heads into the Ryleh wall is not something I'm prepared to do.
We'd have to come up with a fair amount of money and gems he'd have to pay to us each turn, in exhange for not being directly involved in the war. Or perhaps Maverni would allow him to take a sea province so he'd be able to help in the conflict directly.

The aliens are destroying our planet. The Kingdom of Pangea expresses our renewed commitment to the destruction of Ryleh. All other wars must be suspended, I don't think we have any other choice.
I would like to continue our fun conflict, Ulm, but it looks like we will have to pick it up after Ryleh has been defeated. What do you say? It was sort of a stalemate position anyway. You should exchange one province with Maverni so as to have access to Ryleh's ocean.
With all of us united, Ryleh will be destroyed quickly, I believe. I thought before that we had more time before our utter anilhilation, but it's quite clear that our planet will be destroyed in a matter of a few turns, and we must act now!

My God just fight with four Mind Lords, killed one and crippled some. Lets clean East Seas, first, and then go west.

I never stalled (Arco) But what is the point? I fight under water, I win some fight. My people move on, mind lords come behind and take over. Only way to win is make magic castles, and I have no gems. And we need to all attack. At once.

Great R'lyeh just put up Sea of Ice. I foresee this game heading into a stalemate.
CUnknown
September 10th, 2007, 11:39 PM
Yeah, he put up Sea of Ice.. but.. how many water gems did he use for it? He only gets astral gems from the Arcane Nexus, and he obviously has a use for those (destroying the planet!!), so my guess is he didn't alchemitize any of them for the Sea of Ice.
The guy of mine who cast Mother Oak died, so again just guessing here -- but I think that Ryleh saw the opportunity and put up Sea of Ice with only maybe 50 extra gems or so (or less).
My point is, that we can dispel Sea of Ice, so don't panic just because of that. There are other good reasons to panic though, hehe.
Any volunteers to dispel Sea of Ice? I will donate gems for it. Another tactic could be to wait a bit -- I am going to cast a global spell with mucho extra gems very soon (as soon as I get a booster item from Tir). It may dispel Sea of Ice randomly when it goes into effect. Hell, it may even dispel Arcane Nexus but something tells me we ain't that lucky.
If it dispels my own Gift of Health I am going to cry.

Ulm is not about to let Marv fall to those whom cowardly broke our NAP in the past(Tir Nog). Also Ulm has never before declared war or ended an NAP with those whom truly seek peace on land. I know your loyalites Pangeea lie with Tir Nog and im not about to let Tir Nog borders grow next to my own.
If Marv and Tir agree to peace than I will agree to peace with Tir but I am not about to ask Marv to seek peace with cowards.
This game is busted anyway, there is noway we will decide a winner by turn limit 75 with our economies being destroyed.
I am still committed to the destruction of the squids and will invade once the sea of ice is gone.
Who has donated gems?

I missed my weekend turn, but I do not think R'lyeh will be winner if we all attack him. Thanks for nature gems, I am castling and templing under water. I do not care who is declared winner, but I care to kill R'lyeh. Of course, if others fight on land, and I wear me under water, the winner will not be Arco :-(

Sea of Ice is back up.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Injured.gif
An amphibious force of elite Pangean commandos has been trapped beneath the re-growing sea ice and now they have no means of retreat. Their mission is clear: To destroy the alien menace and reclaim the planet!
The offensive underwater is going well so far. My commandos have captured a Kelp Fortress and are now using it as a base of operations. However, this success comes at the expense of my dwindling White Centaur herd. No White Centaur births have been recorded since the beginning of the alien-caused End Times, so their kind may in fact go extinct. Despite this, they keep fighting in an enraged fury at those who have brought such destruction to our planet.

i do occasionally go back and download turns for fun however, and i found the new lord of r'lyeh is a roleplaying fanaticist http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif The paragraph she wrote to reproduce the histroy (the fallen of ea rlyeh) amused me to no end http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif .
i login to the game last hour and, it appears that the rlyeh is finally about to meet its end, as the nexus has been dispelled and...something else happened, but the situation is still, well, quite amazing fun. while this game might be somewhat frustrating for you my friends, i hope you all snatched some entertainment out from it and, don't blame me for asking someone...funny...to sub http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Report from the northwestern coast:
Mictlan fishermen from a nearby village are in a panic at something they have seen out on the open ocean, although no one can verify their story, or honestly even understand what the Prokrantor they are taking about. Amidst their frenzied blatherings they manage to speak semi-coherently about what they have seen: Apparently, the sky has torn open, and an alien being of immense size and power has descended from the heavens, splashing down into the sea with the force of a tidal wave. Some say it was merely an asteroid striking the earth, while others argue that the Doom wished for by the alien race has finally reached it's ultimate fruition, an omen of death for the few survivors left on this nearly destroyed planet.

Hey, I was still playing!
I think that any one of us 4 remaining could have a shot at winning. Well, I suppose Ryleh is going down, but that's because she's being double-teamed.
Edit: I just re-uploaded my turn. I believe that prevents me from going AI, right?
I agree to a draw if everyone still playing agrees to it. I have to say that Ulm looks to be leading right now, but since Ryleh is losing power and since Arco and I (Pangea) are working together, Ulm's victory is far from certain.

arco has 66 provinces to Ulm's 83, but has the highest income of 1757, with pangea being second w/ 673. Granted, of the top 4, arco has the smallest army, but personally i think income is king.
CUnknown
November 1st, 2007, 01:27 PM
I didn't realize arco had a 1757 income.. that is obscenely high for this game. I mean.. he probably has money available to actually spend on stuff!!! Whenever I want to buy something, I have to alchemitize fire gems... what is your secret, arco?
Tequilich
November 1st, 2007, 01:53 PM
Money in late game is almost worthless...even more so in this fubared game. Magic items, gems, SC's and domain are what rule late game.
Im sure Pangea and Arco would have teamed up against me and it would take another 50 or so turns to figure out a winner. So how bout you take this game down Zach and start a new one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Tuidjy
November 1st, 2007, 10:38 PM
I most definitely want to continue. At least until *%!@*$%#! R'lyeh is dead and
buried. And it will be. People should be taught that casting Armageddon is not a
recipe for success. It's a shame that the land nations did not work together
to eliminate him (I was not here, so I do not know why) but since I took
the nation, I have cleaned him from one ocean and from Maverni's former lands,
and as of this turn, hold a province next to his capital.
I think that each of us, except for R'lyeh has a chance to win the game. Pangaea
and Ulm may be stronger than my nation, but I'm enjoying kicking mindflayer butt.
Oh, and I am no sub. Nick took over for a while, but a branch caught up with his
car, so I am back on Arco's helm.

CUnknown
November 2nd, 2007, 12:32 PM
I don't know, Tuidjy, you are in pretty good shape if you still have a nice income. I disagree with the idea that money isn't worth anything anymore, I would give anything to be able to build white centaurs again. Without money, Ulm and I are forced to rely on just summoned units. I mean, summoned units are great, but it would be better if I could add sneaking groups of white centaurs to the mix. And if I could recruit Pans again.
I think with Gift of Health I am in good shape as far as not dying, but as far as winning goes, I'm really not sure.
So, I am up for a draw if all players agree. If we continue, I am supporting Arco against the hated races of Ulm and Ryleh! If I ever find myself in a position of being able to push against Ulm, I would try to win for myself, as well.
Edit: Oh, about the reason why we didn't gang up on Ryleh-- we tried, we really did. But, Ulm and I were geared for war just before all this Ryleh stuff happened. I thought I had a pretty kick-*** midgame army, and he was the largest nation out there, so I wanted his land. At first, my plan was basically to ignore Ryleh as best I could and focus and Ulm. I mean, I helped in the dispel attempt, but when that failed, I foolishly decided to continue with my plans to attack Ulm. I mean, I had an all land army, and Ulm had no border with Ryleh, so I thought it was okay to do so.
But, that changed when the Armageddons started. I had just won a battle against Ulm, so when I offered him peace in fear of the armageddon, he accepted. So, everyone was geared up to strike against Ryleh (some already were doing so), but then the Sea of Ice went up. We dispelled it, and were able to get some units underwater, but then it went up again with tons of gems in it.
We actually got enough underwater to defeat Ryleh, I believe, and they are doing their holy work underwater as we speak.. but then Ulm attacked me. Ulm at this point has grown rich and powerful off his huge stretches of land, and he really still is in excellent shape to win.
Everyone else got frustrated and lost morale due to the constant armageddons, more or less that's the way it went, and they turned AI. I lost morale too, and staled a ton of times.
So, that is how the game went, according to me.

I see how all this came to pass, I guess. Unfortunately, with two armageddons per
turn, the land of Arcoscephale is a haunted waste populated by undead... whose only
passion and motivation is the bloody demise of those responsible for the holocaust.
Well, I am slowly tightening my noose around R'lyeh's capital, but by the time
the bloody wisherS are dead, I am sure that my prospects will be just like everyone
else's - damn close to zero.
Still, I would rather finish the game, because lets face it - when will we ever

Yeah, I meant to make you pay for the "Arco has nothing but income and research"
statement. You must have noticed one of the SCs that I do not have rout your
prophet. In any case, the game was not decided. Do backups exist?
But yeah, the game was between me and Pangaea, although we were fighting very much
on the same side at the end.
I must say that I am quite puzzled that a game with four active players is ended
when two (Arco and Pangaea) are very much against ending it, and one (R'lyeh) while
missing on the forums, is clearly making an effort to go out with a bang or two.

Speak up for yourself, Ulm, weren't you powerful? You were pushing forward on me, killing some of my thugs, and my Air Queen, etc.. You lost stuff, too, but it seemed you had some in reserve. But maybe not, I don't know. My major advantage was fighting on my home dominion, due to Gift of Health, some immortals in there.. it would have been interesting to see if I could have sustained an invasion outside my dominion against you.
Maybe it was a race of me against Arco at the end, but I would have been happy had you won, Tuidjy. I think I decided a long time back that I would be happy as long as Ryleh didn't win.
I do think it's odd that the game was cancelled like that when the outcome was still in doubt, although I admit I had been staling pretty bad. So I can understand if the host wanted to get another game started. But still, I would be up for continuing if we could get the files, because there were some good battles remaining to be faught.
