...and fighting him and his caravan seems to be the only form of interaction. :p

This, and the opportunity to slaughter adventurers innocently shuffling off to Mt. Doom for some reason reminds me of an event in _King of Dragon Pass_, where strange adventurers show up at your tula.

This is, if memory serves, the only event where I've seen complete unanimity among the members of my ring -- namely, "Kill them!". :p

(It's worth it, by the way, if you have enough well-blessed weaponthanes, and probably a decent magic reserve -- they have a fair number of magical artifacts).

King of Dragon Pass was awesome, but I have a bone to pick with the claim that you can play the game over and over again and always get new events. To be honest, I played one (1) long game, and while I'm sure I missed some rare events, the basic ones get very repetitive, very fast. I even got the Earthshaker Unit on my first try, which I gather is a pretty rare occurence.

I've started the game many times, but never got too far. I guess I get distracted too easily. Any way, I've seen the heroes, and I've found some events repetitive, but I've always gotten something new in every game. I understand much depends on your choice of ring leaders - having a Trickster probably increases the chance of events, and having a similar build-up through the whole game probably ensures that you get similar events, or at least that many events that would be common with a different ring are rare.

I liked King of Dragon Pass as well, but agree that some of the events got quite repetitive.

My biggest problem with it, though, was the randomness of the combat results. Using the same tactics in similar situations gave nearly unpredictable results.
