I've decided it might be a good idea to host another game for new/newish players.
I'm thinking around 10 players or so (we'll see how many we get, anything over 4 is good fun), and a not-too-large map - maybe around 15 provinces each. In my experience this is plenty big enough for lots of interesting things to happen, but not so big that it can get overwhelming. We can sort out details when we see how many players we've got.
Edit: I think we'll probably play on Cradle of Dominion, if we can get enough players (12-14 perhaps), since I think it's a nice map.
Edit Edit: Woohoo, we filled up! Cradle of Dominion it is.
Oh, it'll be an MA game.
It's up to you to decide if you're "newish" enough. If you've played only a few MP games, I reckon that's good enough. SP games don't count I think - it's a surprisingly different skill.
Please post here and choose a nation if you'd like to play.
We have:
Machaka - Burnsaber
Caelum - Chicanist
Agartha - Salamander8
Abysia - Valerius
Jotunheim - Sleet
Arcoscephale - AreWeInsaneYet
Pangaea - Ubercat
Marignon - Warhammer
Oceania - dementd
Pythium - sum1won
C'tis - parcelt
T'ien Ch'i - IndyPendant

I'd like Agartha.
Valerius

Cool, I'll add you all to the list! Wow, this game is filling up nice and fast.
I'm going to write a guide tomorrow as to how to upload your pretenders. It's all reasonably straightforward, promise. I'm really glad to see some brand new players, by the way.
LazyPerfectionist - yep, of course, I can host as many games as will fill up so you are more than welcome to be in more than one.
llamabeast
June 24th, 2007, 08:04 PM
PS Ubercat - glad to have you in this game, but be careful not to join too many games - later on they can get more time consuming if you aren't knocked out. I reckon 2-3 is probably a good limit for simultaneous games in general, depending on how much free time you have.
llamabeast
June 24th, 2007, 08:09 PM
Looks like space for just one more if we're going for 14 players on the Cradle of Dominion map.
If you see this post after the game's filled up though, post anyway and I'll put you down for the next newbie game (which I can start as soon as I get the impression it might fill up).
llamabeast
June 24th, 2007, 08:13 PM
Okay, here's an outline of how to upload your pretenders when you've got them designed:
- Go to Game Tools -> Create a pretender god in Dominions
- Go to the savedgames/newlords folder in the dominions directory, and find your pretender file (e.g. mid_pythium_0.2h)
- E-mail the file to: pretenders[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net
- Crucially, you must have the game name, 'Chinchilla', in the subject line of your e-mail
You can see who's joined so far etc at www.llamaserver.net (http://www.llamaserver.net) .
I hope that's clear-ish. Let me know if you have any questions.
llamabeast
June 24th, 2007, 08:18 PM
I suppose I should say when we're going to start the game. Let's set a target of midnight (UK time) on Wednesday - that gives everyone a couple of days to choose a race, design their pretenders and so on. If you want a bit more time though, just say.
Oh, I should also have mentioned - the game will be on 24 hour quickhost. That means it'll host 24 hours after the last hosting, or before once everyone gets their turns in. Generally people find this to be a nice speed.
Salamander8
June 24th, 2007, 09:15 PM
Quick couple of questions.
Is this going to be like the 2 servers of Velusions' that I am on? The pretender sending via E-Mail is more like the one PBEM I did before, but the auto-host sounds like a TCP/IP game.
Should we use/not use passwords?
When I did a quick check on the server it said Chinchilla was a late age game, but this is MA I thought?
llamabeast
June 24th, 2007, 09:24 PM
It's a PBEM, but ingeniously automated. It checks its own e-mail, updates the website and hosts at the right times, by itself. It's been my big project for quite a while. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
There's no need to use a password, since you'll be the only one to ever see your turns. Probably better not to in fact (easier if anyone needs a sub).
It is mid-age, and for some reason I put late when I was creating the game - well spotted! Fixed now.

At this rate I'm sure that one will fill up fairly fast as well.
And yep - 24hr/turn - see my post further up this page for more details of how it works.

I meant to say Salamander8 - Agartha is generally considered one of the weaker nations in MA (along with Ulm, T'ien Ch'i and Mictlan). If you're happy with it that's cool, but I thought I should let you know in case you haven't heard that said before.

Oh yes, I know they are considered somewhat lackluster, but I like their concept and have been doing nicely with them in a recent SP game I am playing.

Hi llamabeast, question, is it alright to leave mods for another game enabled to play once this has started? I disabled to create the pretender (sent you an update on that by the way). Or question on the reverse, do we need mods enabled all the time to play turns?
In another game using all the CBM mods. Just want to ensure they work properly.
Thanks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
llamabeast
June 25th, 2007, 08:39 PM
You need to make sure the mods are set up correctly when you make your pretender (i.e. definitely turn CBM off for this game). But after that you never have to do anything manually - each game loads the appropriate mods up behind the scenes, and it's impossible to do wrong.

Pretender sent, llamabean. I assume I'm still on for this game as Tien-Chi?
One request: could you please *please* PLEASE turn renaming on? Tien-Chi has so many magic path options, I've taken to naming my mages for their paths, because it was driving me *NUTS* having to click on each. and. every. mage. I. built. to find the one(s) with the path I needed.
Please. : )
Edit: Heh. And then I read up above that Tien-Chi is considered relatively weak for MA MP. Anyone know why? I'm curious, because I found them quite strong in SP play... (I'll still be playing them in this game regardless, however.)

Okay, we're starting! You should get the first turn in the next couple of minutes. Let me know if there's any problems.
I just arbitrarily decided to use the Worthy Heroes mod, because it's fun. I hope that's okay with everyone. It just adds some interesting national heroes to each nation, and makes sure every nation has some heroes. I'll attach it to this post. Just unzip it and place the contents in your dominions3/mods folder.
The first turn will have a 48 hour timer in case anything goes wrong, subsequent turns will have 24 hours. The first turn only takes about a minute though, so we definitely shouldn't need the 48 hours (unless something goes wrong, of course).
Edit: Fixed the attached mod file for the naming error I mention further down in the thread.

Actually only one person is starting in a genuinely odd position with only three neighbours, and I'm going to add an iron mine to one of the adjacent provinces to make it better for them.

As for the mod trouble, that's because I was being thick. In the zip I uploaded the mod was called heroes1_7b.dm, where as it should be called heroes1_7.dm. Oops. I'll change the attachment in a sec. But you can fix it by just renaming the file and getting rid of the "b" in the name.

Bah. Tien-Chi heroes are particularly desireable too. And I took Misfortune-3, which I definitely wouldn't have done if I had known that mod was going in.
Ah well. I'll deal, I guess. Would like to second the mild annoyance at a last-minute, unannounced mod though. Uploading the turn in a short bit, once I figure out how to apply the mod (I never have, yet) and get the turn done. : )

Yeah, fair point, I'm sorry guys. It hadn't even crossed my mind that it might affect pretender design (just because it's never crossed my mind when I've been designing my pretenders I guess). It doesn't make heroes more common, but on the whole they become slightly more powerful. Anyway, sorry again for that. At least, bear in mind that even if you took luck-3 you might not get a hero for a long time (6% chance a turn), and you've saved 240 design points. But I realise it would be far better to know about the mod before the game started since with hindsight it could obviously influence your choices.

I'll postpone the timer for you parcelt, if you're in any danger of staling.
Which reminds me of something I meant to ask before - I'd really like it if someone could volunteer to 'admin' this game. What that means is just that you'd handle situations like this - when someone posted to ask for a delay on the forum, you'd postpone the turn (a 10 second job). And later on in the game if the consensus is to extend to 48 hour turns, you'd do that. It's a really tiny job, but because there's 8 games running on the server now and more soon to be on the way, if I keep trying to run all of them I will quickly go mad.
The admin can all be done by the 'admin options' link on the game page on the website - I'd give whoever volunteers the password. It would be very much appreciated.

I'd be happy to take a crack at Adminning the game for you. I certainly check the forum enough that I'm not likely to miss anything.
If it frees you up to start more games then I'd be doubly happy to try!
Ever consider a middle era game on the big "glory of the gods" map with all 22 factions? THAT would be a long term game! (with plenty of room for growth) A good victory condition might be to take 1/3 of the provinces.

Brilliant, thanks Ubercat! I'll PM you the password. Take a look at the admin options - I think they're pretty self-explanatory really. As your first mission - could you make sure parcelt doesn't stale the next turn by postponing the hosting a bit (I haven't thought through how much'll be necessary).
Actually the "Armadillo" game is pretty much like what you suggest, except that it was only the smaller Glory of the Gods. I may try hosting a huge game some time, although I fear it might just be too big to finish! (even one third of the provinces is 140 or something, which is a lot)
I think I will be starting a new EA "newish" game in the not-too-distant future, and maybe another everyone-can-play game as well.

to the lord of c'tis,
strictly speaking you've already breached the non aggressive pact between us you signed right away. You demanded the control over #49, which I took before we met, and then attacked #49 when it's clear that we need to withdraw our southern expanding force via it even if we decided to hand it to you. and the attack on #49 is timed on the turn after you sent your messenger, you don't even give us a chance to send you our response.
This is definitely not a good way to get things done. As I said above, we've conquered #49 before we met, and I failed to see any reason for your "#49 rightfully belongs to c'tis" claiming, the Arco is here to ask you to remove your forces from #49. You may took #39 the turn after, as I agree to that, but your presence in #49 is clearly a violation of the NAP between us, considering you ATTACKED a province UNDER MY CONTROL without my agreement.

To Arco: we have not agreed on any NAP yet. While I greeted you with friendly words upon encountering you on the map, no explicit NAP terms were proposed. Also, in your reply to our first friendly message, you discussed no NAP but instead you insisted on keeping an essential province close to our capital.
With respect to our attack on province 49, I only learned of the geograhic situation you are referring to (the mountain ridge to the east that would indeed require you to withdraw your troops via province 49) from a scout this this very turn. I was assuming you would continue your advance into the indy provinces to the east and would have the possibility to circle back north from there. We do apologize for this unfortunate and bloody encounter, but I assure you it was not intentional.
Anyways, now that it is clear to all that C'tis honor is still intact as no NAP was broken, I suggest we further discuss the future relations between our nations among ourselves.

This is just so bad, our lizard friend. We tried to be friendly at our best: Offer you ANOTHER province we conquered plus 6 years tax from MY province for, well, MY province, and now you are claiming that you shall have THIS our province and THAT our province while I will get nothing from you except your "reasonable" word and your continuous attack on our provinces.
*sigh.
No pact? As you wish. Let it be, lizards. I had some good fried lizards as my lunch in the other game last turn, and I must admit that the taste is rather exotic. I won't mind for another try.

To the nation of C'tis: In light of your recent military and political scandals, the nation of pythium finds it necessary to demand these concessions in order to secure the safety of its borders:
Concession the first:
That you hereby cede these lands unto the administration of pythium to act as a buffer to pythium's heart:
Kisrik Highlands(5)
Dry Bottom (21)
Akhatala Wastes (39)
Concession the Second:
Furthermore, as a further demonstration of goodwill, you will donate either 25 astral gems or 500 gold into pythium coffers to cover pythium expenses of preparing its buffer zones against possible aggresion.
Failure to comply will result in you facing a two front war against two different nations, which together are capable of removing you from the map entirely with the slightest amount of effort, as we seek to ensure that our borders are populated by those we trust to be good neighbors.

July 19th, 2007, 02:10 PM
Well well, I was just wondering what was taking you so long, Pythium.
Let's first make something very clear: if you wish to backstab and blackmail the honorable nation of C'tis, and align yourself with the scum of Arco, then that is one thing. But do not do it under the pretense of ensuring safety for yourself. C'tis has not been involved in any political or military schandal; these exist only in the minds of Arco. And your borders are perfectly safe I would say, with a nice castle and 200+ troops only 2 provinces away from my capital.
So, now we have established the true situation, of which you decided to take advantage and blackmail us. Fair enough. We will contact you privately with a counter-offer. Also, we ask that you specify exactly how you will guarantee the safety of our borders once we have reached an agreement.

And for the last time: No agreement was ever reached between C'tis and arco, no NAP or anything, so we cannot have broken any either. You may attack us all you want (and I have a feeling you probably will), but C'tis honor is holy!
Btw, regarding that legionnary horde of yours that you have marching on our capital... ever heard of Varus and the Teutenburg forest? Well, we have no forests but a swamp full of angry lizards could do the trick as well!!

Refresh my memory please. Vegas rules means "Nobodies word is any good, but let's all make NAP agreements anyhow." Do I have that right? I only read about Vegas rules once and I may have been confused as to the meaning.
I don't believe that Vegas rules were mentioned one way or the other in this thread until now.
Pretty much. I'm just not sure what we're assuming to be the default here.

My guess would be that Vegas is not the default, though I don't have a ton of MP experience to make the call. I do know that if a NAP isn't worth the pixels it's printed on I wouldn't waste my valuable time negotiating for nothing.

There are no rules regarding NAPs in this game. At least for the time being llamabeast is not specifying these on games on his server.
You can agree to a NAP with no intention of honoring it and proceed to violate it. People shouldn't hold a grudge outside of the game and you certainly won't be kicked out of it. But you also can't complain if it makes players disinclined to deal with you.

I'm not sure what the difference is between "holding a grudge outside of the game" and "not trusting a player." I would certainly never trust a player in another game who was dishonest in an earlier one. Does that constitute a grudge? How about letting people in the most recent game know about the players history?
It seems that one can easily go too far in either direction. You can be a rampant liar/betrayer and then what's the point of diplomacy? or you can be Mr. NeverAttacksAnyone because you don't want to hurt anyones feelings. I guess it's a side affect of having persistent player personalities in repeatedly new wars. Probably covered by game theory.

My take on NAPs in general is that you are free to make or break them at will. However, if you make an NAP and then leave a border completely undefended, if the guy breaks the NAP you only invited it upon yourself. On the other hand, you can go public with things and try to sway the other people about what is going on and get them on your side.

I generally honor my NAPs and if I make closer alliance/promises with someone, I honor that too. I have no qualms about assaulting anyone, that's why there is usually the three-month breakege involved with every NAP I make.
If the map is crwoded I have no idea how one can go around breaking NAP without warning. Once you break one NAP, yuo're at war all the time with everyone since no-one will trust you no more. Trading? A lot harder since you have to send everything first (making it possible for someone to sucker you).
I think breaking NAPs simply not worth it. I'd rather wait 3 turns before making myself a political outcast.

Due to abysia's inconsistent diplomatic approach, the nation of pythium, some turns ago, felt it necessary to take steps. Having offered a generous solution to an earlier problem (The problem: Abysia took taken provinces behind pythium lines, with the solution being an offering of the income of the provinces in question, in addition to the sum of 300 gold, and the income of one other province abysia was expanding towards, from pythium to Abysia). Abysia ignored this offer- in fact, they sent no response, instead attempting to expand even further, and initiated a troop buildup on pythium's border.
Therefore, pythium was been forced to cancel the renewal of the NAP, which is due to expire on turn 39, by their count, with agggresive action (battles and the like) occuring on turn 40.
However, said NAP has not yet expired, and violations of the terms included therein while the NAP is still in effect would result in an instant, and full, aggressive response.
Individuals interested in supporting this effort are requested to make donations to pythium, preferably of pearls, air gems, or gold.
Thank you.

Inconsistent? As in: we made a NAP and stuck to it? As in: we discuss things instead of issuing ultimatums?
It sounds very dramatic to say we took provinces behind Pythian lines but the truth is that we took Arco's provinces (as did everyone else in the area) north of Pythium's lines. Other nations please be aware that all of Arco's former territories are apparently considered by Pythium to be behind their ever-expanding lines. Pythium will inform you of when you must return those provinces and if you don't return them then Pythium will declare war.
Abysia would greatly appreciate other nations' assistance in dealing with the Pythian menace. Obviously we have an uphill battle but we have been forced into war by an aggressive, uncompromising neighbor. In any case we would be surprised to see nations assist Pythium. Look at Pythium's atttack on C'tis, the number of Arco's provinces they have gained and their research progress and it is clear who the danger is.
One correction that we think Abysia and Pythium can agree on is that the NAP was for a six turn warning and so Pythium's estimates of when the NAP ends should have one turn added to them.

(Okay, schedule fixed above)
I'm also not sure what you meant by 'the number of Arco's provinces Pythium took'. Arco never had a large presence there- in fact, the provinces you invaded were, until recently, provinces of Oceania's that Arco had attacked when it went AI. Most of the similar territory in that area was much the same. When I expanded into Arco's territory, (province 68) I found that you had several fliers who were well to the west of that area (63). Oceania can easily verify this.
As for uncompromising? Pythium made several offers and issued several notices via in-game messages over the last three turns. Throughout those, Abysia never responded, until the final count was posted on these forums. They had, earlier, expressed a desire to keep the number of border provinces as low as possible. Instead, they expanded in across pythium's borders, more than doubling the number of border provinces between the two nations. This was the original source of 'border inconsistency'.
The approach of war is not quite inevitable, even now. The earlier offer still stands. Abysia has merely declined the opportunity to compromise.
Note: This is all the pythium speaking.
Out of character: Did jotunheim stale last turn? IF not, then when they take their last turn, could they do us all the favor of waiting five minutes for the server to host, and taking their second turn then? This really goes for anyone who is the last to take their turn in any quickhost game.

The "spider infestation" in Marignon has ended and the glorious reign of the disposable god-king of Machaka has started. Some provinces still remain "uninfested", but they will soon join our glorious nation.
Marignon fought bravely and to the bitter end, but in the end, the eternal light of our god Soforu, the Second Sun just shone more brightly than Marignon's holy flames.
We would like to take is opportunity to advertise our forging services. We have Fire, Earth, Death, Nature (and soon water) covered. Dwarven Hammers are no-brainer. Fire Brands and Charccoal Shields for your SC's. Boosters, like Earth Boots, Thistle Maces, Flame Helmets!, and Skull Staffs are also available. We can be paid by Water gems, Air boosters, Blood Stones, Crystal Coin, Ring of Wizardy/Sorcery and Staff of Elmental Mastery. Money is also fine, I want 12 gold per gem in the cost of the item.

GG Burnsaber. This was my first MP game and my first real game with Marignon. It showed quite a bit. I had some bad luck with events (heck I was 3 misfortune, but I thought my 3 order would balance that), I screwed up some of my research, and I think I just had a bad matchup with Machaka (at least this early in the game). But, once I thought I had my feet solidly under me again, I had two knights events come along and those hurt bad as they were some of my better territories and one separated my empire in two.
That said, you were able to take advantage of the mistakes which is what separates the good players from the bad. Those spiders of yours were killer, and I just didn't have any mages that were capable of going after their weaknesses. I still don't know exactly what I could have done to take them down given my situation. I didn't have the diversity of magic I needed to really hurt them.
GG, it was fun playing with all of you and hopefully, I will see you guys in other games.

I actually stopped recruiting spiders after we had both attacked that single province and you saw my spiders effectiviness (six months before the actual war started). The spiders without rider have mag res 8. I just thought you were going to research Thaumaturgy 4 and paralyze them. 3 Grand Masters could have taken ~9 spiders with that spell. Perhaps you didn't have time to reach Thau4?
I know some people are fans of Order 3 and Misfortune 3, but I'm a bit too paranoid to take that. I usually have Order 3 and Misfortune2/Misfortune1 if I can afford it. I'm not that experienced player so I'm not basing this on anything concrete evidence, misfortune 3 just seems so creepy.
Warhammer
August 14th, 2007, 01:36 PM
That was my problem, I didn't have time to research up to Thau4. Most of my good spells are in Evo and Ench is looks like. But, I probably should have researched up to Thau4.
I wouldn't have had issues with the knights, except that I was dealing with you (and aside from the spiders, I think our forces were even). My forces were off doing other things that were more pressing than taking those provinces back over.
The killer may have been taking the drain, but I felt that it was necessary to do that to take the Order and Production. Production is a must for Marignon, but I might experiment with some other scales next time I play them. The other issue is that I should have taken a pretender with some death scales. That would have made conjuration a viable magic school for me.
Still, first time playing a nation is a learning experience.

Heh. Hey Caelum, regretting the invasion yet?
I offered you a chance to back off, when you ended the NAP, and to take what you had originally asked for before declaring war. (I didn't know it was do-this-or-war, btw; would have helped if I had.) Then I warned you, when you attacked me while I was occupied in a war with Agartha, that you would regret that decision.
When I couldn't fend off your highly-mobile armies, and you kept Seeker-Arrowing my leaders off, I knew I had lost the game. So I switched gears, and decided to make sure I brought *you* down with me.
I have been besieging your home capital, while you beseige my two castles. I assume you sent 22 of your leaders out to attack me because I had almost brought your walls down, in a last desperate attempt to save your home province--and now they're all dead. 22 strong researchers and spellcasters, gone. That must hurt.
You may be rebuilding your walls now by weakening my army, but defeating your castle was never my true goal (though it would have been nice to tear down your castle and lab, I must admit). Shutting your production down was. And at 132 unrest and climbing, with my army still occupying, you aren't going to be using that province again any time soon.
And you aren't going to break down my own walls anytime soon, either. I can summon defenders at will, and have effectively infinite supplies. All you're doing is keeping your armies occupied. Fine by me!
Next game, you might want to pick your wars a...bit more wisely.
To the others, Caelum only has two castles free atm, with low production values. Their armies are currently locked in sieges with me. The provinces they conquered have been at 200 taxation for a long time now. They are ripe for the plucking.
To Agartha: I'm sorry. I attacked you because you were the only nation I never spoke with, and you *looked* the weakest. Yet you turned out to be the most honourable and good-natured of my neighbours. I only wish I knew that before I chose my target.
Lesson learned. Sound out your neighbours' nature before attacking. If I had done that, I would have offered to *ally* with Agartha *against* Caelum. Ah well, lesson learned. : )
For my very first MP game, I didn't do *too* badly--though I did not do very well, I must admit. At least I have learned from a *lot* of mistakes.
I will stay in play until I know for sure Caelum's going down, then set myself to A.I. There is an in-game message along these lines coming, for those that may not read the forums.
Have fun, the rest of you!

I orginally didn't have any troops near my god. I just tried to get all of my troops to front lines, but they didn't fit and were pulled back. (That's why my mummy started in the middle of my mages and probably diseased all of them. I had placed him in front of my soulless.

Well, he lost one hp at some point of the battle. He got hit by leech once. I remember reading that Drain Life passed all defenses, but I'm not sure about leech. It was close call, anyways. Those Gifts went close!Btw, Why didn't you cast wind guide with your Air Enchantress? You do realize that casting Mass Protection also makes your warlocks suspectible to their own Heat Aura, since it lowers their fire res to 75%?
I'm really starting to like the Late Game portion of this game. There's always something intresting happening, and since you can do more stuff, you can also make more complex "plots". It's also been quite educational experience (like you can't out-poison Horrors with Hydra Hatchlings, Horros have Drain Life attacks). I need to come up with something else. Those horrors are nasty!
Oh, Oceania. About the siege battle. That Prison caster wasn't exactly planned. I was just using the cool artifact Pythium had traded to me, I really didn't considers its possibilites, until now. It's been a fun game. Tien Chi came after me early and only my sacred statues' extreme protection and my infantry's kite shields saw me through the hordes of arrows he unleashed upon me. I'm glad I pushed my enchantment early to allow me to summon those statues. Pulling almost all my mages off research duty hurt my RPs badly, but they really helped keep my nation alive. I'm small but still alive and keeping lots of statues around. /threads/images/Graemlins/Bowling.gif
To Tien Chi (hopefully you are still reading this):It was a good fight. It sounds like we both did a couple of 'head smacking' moves (Like me forgetting to crank my tax rate at home down after pulling my patrollers out and not noticing till I couldn't build troops suddenly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif).As I said in our PMs, I have no hard feelings whatsoever. My own lack of diplomatic rapport with you was a big contributor to our war, and we never had any kind of NAP or other agreement, so it's not like you violated any kind of treaty. I look forward to seeing you in other MP games.
To my current neighbors (Caelum and Jotunheim): I feel like a buffer zone between you 2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif, but I've found you both to be good neighbors.
My little corner of this world is isolated but I am still finding this a good game of Dom3.

Yep, I'm enjoying it as well. I admit I haven't been incredibly active diplomatically (probably mostly due to the somewhat isolated position I started in), but it is a lot fun. Much more interesting than trying to plow through another 500+ militia AI army http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Abysia: Err, that battle at your fort was completely planned to go that way! You see, I'm lulling you into a false sense of security! Ha-haa!
Ugh, sometimes I just hate the battle AI. I mean, my Earth King would only have had to go like two squares up to start kicking your Demon Knights around, but no!
"Durrr.. Me great melee King of Earth. Me good fight. Durr.. No fight. Dudes in way."
Nice plan with the Storm, otherwise he would flown right into your mages. How did he die, btw? I didn't watch the battle through, but I simply cannot believe that you could have gotten Paralyze through his MR of 32.
You finally nailed my Air Queen. Gongratulations. Well, he probably caused you enough headache to justify her gem cost. I had a clever paln to nail your next group of teleporters, but apparently, you decided to take a different route.
Well at least the filming for the movie "Chaga the Hunter Spider Mummy 3; Back with a Vengeance. Again." are well underway. Abysia, would you mind sending a couple of horrors against him? That'd make a kick-*** action scene.
We have taken some setbacks, but the lands of Machaka will not be yours for free, you vile fire-men! Be prepared to bury many, many of your kin in Machakan soil!

Great post Burnsaber. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
I really lucked out that I had just researched flames from the sky. But it looks like I was even luckier that I chose to cast storm. I couldn't decide between storm and mass flight but in the end I decided I was better off fighting at the castle gates since I didn't have enough troops to surround you. I have no idea how the earth king died; it looked to me like he escaped but then I saw the message that I found the flying ship. It does seem unlikely that soul slay or paralyze got through that insane MR and he was still over 100 HP.
I'm even more confused that your AQ is dead since you put her on retreat and she was gone before my horrors attacked. She had two provinces she could retreat to; one of them my horrors cleared out but the other was still open. I had always thought that if any province was available for retreat you were ok. Does it not work that way? Maybe the game chooses a retreat province and if it's not available the retreating unit dies? Well, if she is dead it certainly cost me enough. What did I lose in the attempts, something like 8 mages or more and their magic items? And you're right: I had had enough of that and just decided to sit back and cast some horrors. I'm glad I didn't get to see the plan you came up with to kill my teleporters: as it was I was losing half or more of my mages with each attempt.
Now the mummy's back ... it's just an unending parade of SCs. And I know it's just a matter of a few turns until your GoH/Chalice-healed tartarians start arriving. But let me take alook at Chaga's stats, maybe I could oblige you by sending some horrors (it's less painful than losing mages in any case).

Would we please delay this game for one day? I need to go back to work now and will be absolutley unable to get to a computer to do a turn today. I apologize for the inconvenience. THanks.

Hi. I postponed hosting for turn 70 by 24 hours (it is now 09:05 Sunday). I could use the extra time and since turn 71 won't host until Wednesday anyway I figured no harm done.

Umm.. Valerius, did you see the same battle movie as I did? My battle movie shows me winning the fight, but apparently this isn't the case.
Perhaps it's because I hastily (and stupidly) upgraded to 3.10?
I'm sorry Jotunheim for you being targeted by the Charlie's angels. I though they would be going against the big bad Abyssia.

I do recall reading somewhere that an incorrect version will cause problems with the battle replay (though I think the battle summary is still supposed to be correct). That fight was so close that I could see any glitch in the replay showing a different result.
My replay shows both of us casting our buffs and exchanging artillery fire. Then your spiders and trolls advance to meet my PD and some undead. Your troops are held up long enough that the demons and occasional gifts from heaven take a toll. Still a half dozen spiders engage the storm demons and some trogs on my right flank and the trolls and the king of banefires engage frost demons on the left flank. And this is where I get completely lucky. One of my warlocks gets under 100 fatigue and using the last two blood slaves on the field (actually assigned to another mage) casts infernal prison at the king of banefires. After that the battle goes on for a while, all of my frost/storm demons are killed and many of my mages flee but again I get lucky and the commander with so many of my trogs on guard commander (a dumb mistake on my part - I accidentally had no trogs on attack orders) is killed and the trogs attack. At the end I think the only commander I have on the field is my PD commander.
BTW, the kindly ones had a huge effect on my planning. It was bad enough dealing with all the earth attacks. I got lucky (and Jotunheim unlucky) that he received two of three attacks last turn.

In my replay, the King of Banefires is not sent to hell, and I win easily as the Trogs can't stand the beating from the King and flee, trampling each other and your mages at the same time (you lost all mages expect one!).
It's such a shame that your version is apparently the correct one. *sigh* One can dream...

I thought that might be the difference in the replays. If the King hadn't been banished I didn't have anything that could have stopped you and you would have won a decisive victory.
As it is it turned out to be a draw. You lost a fair amount of troops and the King but, as they always seem to, most of your mages escaped. I lost all of my warlocks and frost/storm demons that have served me so well. Still, I count myself lucky since I should have suffered a far worse loss.
Also, the llamaserver set itself to host on Friday at 10:40 GMT. I have turned it back a day. If anyone needs more time let me know.

Definitely. If you get a chance to complete turn 75 I'll let that host as normal and then delay the next hosting. If you don't get a chance to complete turn 75 I'll delay the hosting for this turn. What time on the 15/16th would you like me set the delayed hosting?

Hi, sorry for the strange hosting. Oceania asked me to delay hosting. Right after I did so I saw his PM that it was unnecessary so I switched it back to the original time. Even though the llamaserver log shows +3 hours and then -3 hours it seems like the -3 hours took effect first and caused immediate hosting.

Yes, sorry about that, it's a "bug". If you give two changes at once it only uses the last one. I actually designed it so that you could override a change by giving a different change immediately after, but now that seems like a stupid design. I'll change it at some point.
Edit: Added to my "to do" list for the server.
