I'm going to my friends house in near future for 2-3 days or so. I was thinking about installing Dom3 temporarily in my friends computer and play my MP turns there.

Then I realized that might get my CD-key busted! Would it work if I uninstall Dom3 from my computer before leaving?

You won't have a problem Burnsaber. If you gave your friend the CD key and he used it to play against you in a game, you'd get busted - but that's not what you're doing.

I have Dominions installed on about 5 computers, all with my CD key, so I can play wherever I am.

I doubt that uninstalling will help if there's some auto detection going on. I don't know the answer to this one - you might have to go for the technical support.

I can't imagine that uninstalling would make a difference, unless it's actually contacting illwinter/shrapnel on install/uninstall. Which I've seen no reason to suspect it's doing. (And would be very upset if it was doing so without notification.)

We have (intentionally) little idea how CD-keys get busted. Since people are known to play from different computers, or run one as a server and play from another, I doubt this would cause a problem.

What does the legalese say? Does the license actually allow multiple installs?

Seriously, it'll definitely be fine.

No, the license does not. If you take the license text by the word (it is not too long, just read it), you are not allowed to install the software onto multiple machines, even if you are roaming youself between them or running a TCP/IP Client/Server setup. You are breaking the law.

Burnsaber did not asked about legal advise, but about what the integrated DRM prevents you from doing (which is not the same). Here, the DRM is as always a little mysterious, but AFAIK it prevents multiple players with the same key to participate from different machines in a single game. Also, I assume that Illwinter can deactivate keys that are obviously misused (like keys that show up on P2P networks).

That is interesting.
I have specifically asked about it. Mostly in relation to the host and whether I had to have a seperate copy if I host on another machine. I was told by the devs that it was ok. But then, the license was probably written by Shrapnel. And maybe not even by them.

Thanks.

That's what I expected and wanted to bring up, but I don't have the game here so I wasn't sure.

I am somewhat curious now how it detects different machines in a single game. Can't be IP address, since that often changes. Mac Address?
(This may be veering into the area they'd rather we not talk about. It's just idle curiosity on my part, so if I should drop it I will.)

Yes I understand curiosity. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
But I am afraid that we do not go into the particulars other than answering situations where someone feels it has caused them a problem that they do not deserve.
