Just thought I would point out to anyone who hasn't seen it that the progress page (http://ulm.illwinter.com/dom3/dom3progress.html) has been going crazy the last few days. Exciting stuff, thanks Kristoffer!

There's a lot of stuff there, all right, and all of it looks very interesting on the basis of the descriptions I've seen. There's also enough that any hopes of a quick DB update are going to be in vain. Not only all the new stuff, but fixes and tweaks to existing things that I'm going to need to hunt down.

I suppose the next DB update will be just adding the new stuff, putting that out as some kind of intermediate one and then going back and combing through the old units.

While new stuff is nice, I like to see the major bugs (those in red) fixed first.

So would I, but this patch is pure, 100% Kristoffer's work so far as I know, with Johan K having been on vacation in India. Fixing the red stuff is mostly JK's job since it requires going deep into the code, which Kristoffer can't always do. At least the LA C'tis Tomb Wyrm issue has been corrected and the undead blessing issue has been fixed as well.

With Johan coming back, I expect that we'll soon have a number of the red issues fixed and the next patch after this one should not take as long as this one has.

JK's trip to India has left him ridden with disease. So he won't be doing any immediate work on anything. Hopefully he will recover soon. In all frankness though there is no reason to believe that he will pick up in tempo on correcting bugs just because Kristoffer has worked a lot during his vacation.

Bandar Log turned up to be invaded by C'tis, and the miasma took it's toll. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

He probably got caught by the monsoons as well.

I hope you have Gift of Health cast, or that Johan has the recuperation ability.

Being a van, he is not recuperating. So we can only hope that he finds himself a fairy queen before the year is at an end http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have a wonderful fairy queen hanging on the wall of my living room. He's wellcome to come over anytime to benefit from her healing. And if that doesn't work I can allways introduce him to the magic of our good Belgian beers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Please dont rush them in that direction. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'm disappointed that no-one thought my joke about Electronic Arts buying them out was funny http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif.

Anyway, I'm a huge sinophile so I'm really looking forward to that internal alchemy.

I thought it was hillarious DrPraetorius! I just didn't respond saying so. I am now, though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Reduces age, and I intended some insanity. Although I'm not sure if it works, might need some JK help there.

I enjoyed your joke immensely http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

as long as you keep up with the awesome updates (for which other companies would charge money) i dont really need a dom4

Its great that "just a patch" for Dom3 adds entire new nations, spells, units, etc. While Johan is on vacation, Kristoffer has been having alot of fun working on the units. Upgrading some, improving the images, adding new ones.

Everything has its pros and cons, and this is one of the advantages of having a two man team. I dont have to split my desires between bug fixes vs adds because those things are already split between the two developers.

Other companies would sell expansion after expansion...

IMO it confirms that Dom3 is worth its high price tag.

That progress page is such a tease. I've already had two arguments about what "serpent cult orgy" might mean....

And the longer we have to wait for the new patch, the more fun we can have trying to imagine what it might mean http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Or, as the poet said: A dirty mind is a joy forever http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I think Kristoffer might like it that way. We dont know if maybe some of our predictions sounded interesting enough to change it just before its released. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

There is one new thing I'd like to request for the next patch.
Air currently has the spell Flight, with a range of 5, and affects one unit.
I'd like a similar spell restricted to the caster only, so my super can reliably charge those horror marking scum known as R'lyeh's Starspawn. As it is, I can't get to them before they retreat on the third turn. Having a caster-only flight spell would allow me to cut the time they could horror mark me in half - unless they don't want their Starspawn back.

Erm. Can't you just stand back a little from your units, then cast flight, with only self in range?

Sometimes... But a lot of spells such as luck have single caster versions. I'd like the option. I can work around it, as is. But it is hard to guess distances sometimes on that tiny army setup map.

It's hardly important, I'd agree, but it seems a small enough change I thought I'd request it anyways. If it doesn't happen, no big whoop. If it does, I'd appreciate it.

I might be able to mod it, but I don't think it would find its way into many mp games that way.

Sombre

You can mod it. Pretty easily. Just so you know.

Lazy_Perfectionist
August 9th, 2007, 05:02 PM
Just so you know. I know. That's why i mentioned modding it in the post above. And that it wouldn't get in unmodded multiplayer games.
