View Full Version : What do you wish for?

There are several threads discussing what you can wish for, but none discussing what people usually do wish for (at least not as the subject of the thread).
I've seen a few threads where Honeybadger mentioned wishing for Ancient Krakens, and also a few threads where players mentioned wishing for gems (which seems really efficient- 175 gems for 100), or making the caster more powerful (either magic power or "standard" power- +50 hp/+10 str/etc).
Presumably, there are many useful Wish effects and players will choose the effect most useful to them for the current game situation. But there are surely things that are wished for more often than others, either because they are fun or just very useful.
So, what do you usually wish for?
Note: I made this topic to give myself something fun to think about while waiting for my copy of Dominions 3 to arrive- which should be Thursday.

1. Gems - its really a 2 gems for 1 deal since for 100 astral gems you get 25 astral 150 other gems back (so its kinda like 75 astral --> 150 other gems).
2. Seraph (killer SCs)
3. Situation specific, might be blood slaves or some unique item that i need for something special.

Funnily enough, my first wish is usually for power on my caster. Much too often,
I use the Forbidden Light in order to get that coveted S9. Power, and later magic
power makes sure that the horror marked, and oh so valuable mage survives the
horror attacks in your capital (the rest of them are avoided by casting Returning)

I never wish for the same thing twice. Im more interested in hacking the spell than in winning a particular game of Dom3. I pulled the whole list of keywords for the spell. Last I counted that was 59 of them. And many of those accepted variables (like unit or item or numbers). I still havent figured some of them out.

Anyone tried wishing for "more wishes"? It seems like something you should get punished for. Maybe have the caster turned into a crappy genie unit ;]

I was thinking it'd be pretty funny to have the following wishes available "Destroy all Clams", "Destroy all Bloodstones", "Destroy all Fetishes".
Definitely put a cap in how much clamhoarding goes on right at the point of the game that clamhoarding gets critically silly.
No reason to stop there though, the potential of destroying all rings of water breathing, dousing rods, staff of storms, and marble armor would encourage a good diversification of items. Probably too devastating to destroy all amulet of the fishes though as there isn't really an alternative...

Hm. The only genie unit in the game currently is... F5 A5 S3 E3. Wouldn't even be all that bad a wish...
Why on EARTH would you wish for a bog beast?
I used to (dom2) wish for doom horrors, and I even have a Dom3 game where I prophetized kurgi. Gems is nice, but In my opinion, the blood wish is far and away the most useful- 300 slaves is enough to start your own economy immediately, opening an entire path of magic.
And armageddon is fun.

I would cry if I were playing EA Ry'leh and someone destroyed all my fish amulets.

Actually that might be a way to have an option against many of the "what do I do against" complaints.
Destroy all Maenads
Destroy all Illithids
Destroy all Black Hearts
Destroy all Crystal Matrix
If you are willing to invest in a wish, then get rid of them in a sweep. If you time it just right to suddenly make a rush into the void created then it can be strategic.
Nahh probably too huge a change possible. Even if the people started working to immeadiately get them back it would really swing the balance of power. Maybe, if it was a different version of wish that was more expensive and later-game

How about a worldwide leprosy? I think a worldwide flames from the sky or murdering winter would be too powerful, but a worldwide leprosy would at least give the effected nations time to react.
For something like these, create a new spell: Pact with the Void/Devil/Force, whatever. So it costs xxx astral to cast, then costs an additional xxx of the appropriate gem to cast the secondary affect.
100 astral to cast Pact, then another 200 death to cast Plaguemoon (mass leprosy), 200N Nature's Call (mass beckoning with MR resistance), 150S clamshatter, 200F Crusade (mass 1 time affect of purgatory on all undead), 400B Hellish Desire (mass 1 affect looming hell on every commander with troops) and appropriate earth (blight?), air (?), water (?)
Essentially have a set of worldwide unit damagers (MR or take 5-10 damage), or sporadic removers (beckoning, lure), disease, etc. Find some level of affect that would really annoy most nations, including the casters. Have domes protect against them, and have them be extremely high cost yet game changing.
Quite a few of the high level enchants are game changing, just give them one time big affects and change the vector for them. Lasting effects of utterdark seem more game changing then the above, and the above affect everyone and should be recoverable.
Not that current mechanics would allow it I guess, but I liked the idea.

I second this notion -- the game immediately ends, everyone loses!
It would be a funny way for a player in a bad position to force a tie!

Well, I've summoned them Via "Summon Bog Beast". which does NOT cost 100 pearls. Hence, I assume that aformentioned spell needs and will get a nerf in the upcoming patch.

Actually, that would make an interesting one for them to add. I'm thinking of it preventing any army from attacking the next turn. It wouldn't preclude attack spells, assassins and the like, though.

For 100 astral it should prevent any attacks for one season.

Of course, then a guy with 25 pearls a turn could stop war entirely for the entire game.

Unique items for each nation. Ermor already has the black laurel and Ctis effectively has the Jade Mask. Non-Vanilla (modded) nations would kind of be hit by this, though.
Sombre

I don't think an inability to Wish for a single national unique artifact would have much of a bearing on the balance of mod nations, unless the artifact was so good that every single nation ended up going for wish. Which would be stupid.
Valandil

No. I think you misunderstand. He's wishing for nations to get unique artifacts.

I reckon world chaos. Something along the lines of every province has a big uprising, even my capital. Could be a funny way to finish the game.

You could still use globals, assasinations, and domspread.
