View Full Version : Random Map Errors

I like the dom3 random map generator .... except ...

There are usually a few "errors" in the maps it generates for me. (I generate them from the command line and do not use --passmount.)

1. On long mountain ranges, there can be 'neighbors' going through the middle of the mountains. (There are usually a few of these per map.)

2. Sometimes two adjacent provinces (without mountains between them) are not 'neighbors'.

These issues can easily be fixed with a text editor and the .map file.

Anyone know how to prevent these issues?

If this has been previously discussed please post the URL.

Well, I don't consider the first one a problem - long mountain ranges do have passes through them sometimes. It makes things interesting. I chalk it up to the graphical mountains not necessarily following exactly what the internal logic says are mountains.

The second is annoying, especially when it results in a province with 0 neighbors. I guess I should start checking over maps before creating games on them...

The random will always have some sort of problem.

You can take the map into the editor. Once you get used to it, its pretty fast for checking the neighbors and fixing them. not something I would do for every map but if I get one that I particularly like then I will. I also like to tell it to generate province names and set them so that I can rename duplicates.
