View Full Version : Insanity: I can bes a prophet-man too!

I've been playing LA Rl'yeh for a little while and discovered something odd. Chances are it's been discovered long before me, but I figure I'd mention it anyway.

As insane commanders do, they would occasionally give themselves orders that I'm unable to change. Sometimes, they would stop what they were doing and say to themselves "Hey, I want to be a Prophet today." Of course, my original prophet is usually still alive when the nutcase tries to do this, but does he care? Noooo. By the time the next turn rolls around, I have a random Deep One Cultist calling himself prophet too. He gets the blessing, priest bonus and all the rest that comes with the title, but my old prophet is still running around as well and now I have two prophets. When I click on the temple, the Dominion spread by the Prophet doesn't change, so I'm wondering what happens to the dominion the two spread? Do they spread it at equal rates? Do they split the spread among themselves? Or maybe only the latest prophet appointed gets to spread dominion? It's quite confusing.

I've also seen insane commanders do other stuff they wouldn't normally do: Sometimes they would try to use the Call God command (regardless as to wether he has priest levels or if my god is still alive or not). I've also seen them try to search for sites, or research spells in labs when they have no magic levels. I'm not exactly complaining about the extra prophets, but if this is a bug, could it be fixed so that insane commanders can't do anything outside what is physically possible for them?

They *TRY* to do the impossible. That doesn't mean they succeed at it.

I believe the prophets all function normally as prophets; spreading dominion, etc.

Perhaps the temple info screen just doesn't take multiple prophets into account?

Another mad prophet question? Other nation's commanders can go insane and give random orders too. Can one of them prophetize himself? Can other nations get multiple prophets out of Rl'yeh's madness?

no, they're definately all real prophets.

Does insanity have any effect on the tactical fights?

No, they will obey scrits etc. Also insanity on none-commander units has no effect at all.

The temple screen is completly buged and only gives faulty information.

I just click on it if I want to know if my prophet is alive or not =P.

I've been playing MA R'lyeh in a big SP game on the all-water-nation map. I'm right next to LA R'lyeh's dominion and I haven't yet see any of my commanders-gone-crazy prophetize himself.

no, I think it's an undocumented benefit to R'yleh, only their own guys go insane and prophetize themselves. I've never seen it happen to anybody else.

Right -- but I think it's only *LA* R'lyeh.

I haven't tested it, but I don't think non-R'lyeh commanders do potentially useful things. They do stuff like "Dreams of R'lyeh", "Looks at stars", or "Ftaghn". Only R'lyeh's insane commanders do things like "Defend", "Research", etc... (I think?)

another insanity question: I gave my pretender who needed just one more astral point (next to that cap a ring and a necklacce) the dimensional rod (I was overjoyed when I found I had an item giving astral bonus..

so now my pretender is cursed and insane... I've not noticed any problems yet(the pretender is just in the capital summoning tartarians) but still I'd like to adjust this..

how do I do this

Trust me, he's a real prophet. It sucks real hard when one decides to be a prophet before you decide to make a prophet. The game just says NO CHOICE FOR YOU! Plus it's hard to get him killed, on account of the insanity.

It won't make a god particulairly insane (MR affects the rate of insanity gain) but if you care that much, you can have him killed off, or wish for a hand item, which will force the rod out, assuming it's in the first hand slot. The insanity he has already accumulated will never go away, however. The void is dangerous, I guess.
