In a huge SP game I am playing, when I summon monsters they do not appear. Does this mean that the world has reached the upperlimit of units or is this some other problem?

You've reached the game limit if summons stop appearing.
Hopefully the developers will release an optional patch which greatly increases the games unit limit. This optional patch would be great for those of us with powerful systems and for those who eventually plan to upgrade hardware.
The patch can be called 3.09EE (Extra Extension)
A simple precaution explaining this patch is only recommend for systems which meet the following requirements:

Thanks NT,
Wouldn't the patch your suggesting cause problems in MP games? Everyone would have to use the same patch right?

I noticed in this same game that some rituals like Phantasimal attack and Earth do not work, same cause I suppose?

No problems as long as everyone uses the same patch. It's an optional patch which would allow stronger computers to provide games with more units.

Once you reach the limit ritual spells like Earth Attack do not work. Also Gift of reason does not work. I am not sure why that is the case, i have my guesses, but it has shut down my Tartarian/ God squad factory.
I have continued playing this game anyway. Its weird not being able to summon anything. I get some relife when i kill several thousands of troops, so that has been my goal.
Turns take a really long time to process( even with my new PC dual core 2gig of ram) it still takes about 45 mins.
So I wonder how the game would be if the limit where raised again, It would most likely crash on my PC.

I believe there is both a unit and a commander limit, hence why gift of reason does not work.

I've recently encountered the unit/commander limit. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
The SP map is only 700 provinces within the early age and no LA Ry'leh or LA Ermor in the game. I have a very powerful system and wish there was a way to increase the unit/commander limit.

I had not been aware that there was a unit limit. Does anyone know what the actual limit is? Now I am concerned about building too many units. Do I need to deliberately restrain myself or something?

Unit limit is very very high. you won't reach it in a normal game. I thing i read that the limit was more than 10,000. But has been raised even from that, but i am really not sure. there was some talk about it on the Perpetuality game forum early on. you might find it there.

We never actually hit the unit limit in Perpetuality, afaik. Amazing. I don't think we will now.

its probably a power of two, so:
16384...32768...65536 seem the most likely
