A perhaps stupid question:
Is there a map among the default ones with some cave provinces?

Dawn of Dominions.

Only that?
Is it possible to play the map Dawn of Dominion without the pre-set scenery with a free choice of nations?

Sure, just edit the map file and remove the fixed nation section.
I've done it for you, use this map file.

I'm working on a 333 province SP map which has a few cave provinces. This map could really SHINE if the #startspell command was working, hopefully fixed in the next patch.
The map is in the early age and setup with victory points so winning won't take as long. Most of the critical unique items are guarded by independents or immobile AI. One AI opponent will be very powerful yet far away thus providing many large battles for the human opponent during late game.
anyone interested can toss me a PM and I'll provide the link for the map when it's ready.

What they said...
I hope that future patches will allow random maps to include Cave provinces and wraparounds - they appear to be in high demand in the forums.
In the meantime, I believe there is a mapgen mod out there, but IIRC, it doesn't have a Cave province parameter, either.
Can anyone verify?

My RanDom project converts single neighbor border mountain provinces of existing or Dom3 generated random maps into caves. (Not sure if that is the one you were referring to Autochthon?)
A link to the thread is in my sig.

Lol, yes! That was what I was thinking http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
I hope that helps you out Beorne.
I may as well update my copy of the mods while I'm at it...
