View Full Version : Dom3 Database - v3.10
Edi
October 12th, 2007, 04:33 PM
The Dom3 DB has been updated to reflect the changes in version 3.10.
List of changes:
Entries for the new unit powers (heretic, reaper, plague carrier, storm, fire, cold & dark power) have been added and made visible.
New poptypes: Oni and Fir Bolg
New units: 108
New weapons (19) and armor (2)
New magic sites: 140
Corrections to existing entries (some errors may remain, as IW did not list each separate unit that got minor tweaks, hence I do not know about them)
Forts listed twice for ease of reference: By number and by name
Pretender Summary: added gold cost (point cost) column and new pretenders
Nations: all nation numbers, names, epithets, starting forts and start sites listed
Independents: List of independent units by category: Poptypes, magic site recruitables and site summons. Only ID and name listed as of yet.
Army List: updated and added Fomoria and Serpent Cult Pythium
Various minor updates and tweaks
The new file has been uploaded to the usual location. (http://koti.welho.com/ehalttun/Dom3/) The file is named Dom3DB_310_RC-1.zip. It contains the DB in both Open Office (.ods) and Excel (.xls) format. The Excel version lacks a lot of the formatting of the Open Office version and is generally a pain in the arse to read because of all the zeroes due to a lot of the functions not working as they do in Open Office if they work at all. I really cannot be arsed to prettify it since I never use Excel unless I absolutely, positively cannot avoid it. The Excel version is provided "as is" and I will NOT support it in any way beyond that. I have no objection at all if somebody else cleans it up, though.
The discussion thread for v3.08 of the DB is here (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=521610) in case anyone needs to refer to it.
As always, feedback is appreciated and encouraged and will be diligently read. If you have any questions or suggestions related to the Dom3 DB, ask them here.

Horst, it was always going to be Open Office since I use that by preference and I'm fairly proficient with it. Won't be a big problem turning the thing into an actual DB either if anyone ever decides to take that tack.

ATTENTION!
The site page of the Dom3 DB has completely unreliable terrain mask and frequency information due to one of the sites being misnumbered. The DB will be updated soon, but for the time being, DO NOT trust the terrain mask, frequency and level information. The mistake would have gone unnoticed if I had not been doing some analysis for the bug shortlist.

While you're doing that, I was wondering if it'd ever be possible to see the Stone being thingie being added to the database, puh-leeze? Would make seeing whether or not guys who are supposed to be made of stone according to their descriptions are actually made of stone or if it's just a fluff thing without having to use mods that let you do that (and the only one I found crashes the game :/).
In fact, I think the Stone being thing should be an icon!

Like the icon that's currently being used for reinvigoration. Make reinvigoration look somehow different, I have no idea how... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Oh, and the "Healing" icon sucks, too, it looks like a bird's nest on top of the recuperation thing. I think that blue/white glowing hands would make a lot better icon there.

Then make it pure white and remove the recuperation symbol. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

That information will be added to the next DB update, which will happen as soon as I get the site analysis sorted out.

These files are not actually part of the game - you put them in your documents folder, open them up and read them as a supplement to the information in the manual.
The manual is actually pretty good but this info is exhaustive.

Edi:
In the magic site list, there's a column labelled "adventure" after "scry". What does it mean? It's not in the glossary.
Edi
October 28th, 2007, 01:46 PM
Ah, that. There are two sites where you can enter for adventure and get strange (and usually fatal) effects. The City of the Damned and The Forgotten City allow this. When a commander enters, anywhere between 0 and 8 effects happen to him. Most of those things are getting hit by falling axes, crossbow bolts, arrows, ballista bolts, falling rocks or other assorted Indiana Jones type traps, or he may be attacked by horrors, certain Void beings, shadows, shades, ghosts or skeletal warriors. Very quick way to gain experience if the commander survives, but the afflictions start piling up really fast.
Potential rewards (you get a reward maybe 20% of the time) are gold, magic gems and magic items. Perhaps something else as well, but I haven't tested it that much. I suppose I should put a site testing game up just for that and put some big, durable commander into both sites.

It's very difficult to survive and more difficult to find something good. It's also possible to recieve a unique item which already exists... thus two unique items. I recently found 2805 gold from one discovery... yet these are rare.
I haven't battled any void creatures or horrors as a result of the magic site. (45 explorations so far)

My memory could be playing tricks on me with the Void being stuff, but I did get a lesser horror attack from the Forgotten City once. The Spectral Mage handily fried it.

Cannot find Thunder Bow in database, 3.10 RC-1
Whats the dif between the weapons and base weapons page, btw? Is it displaying the same information two different ways, or are they fundamentally different?
I can find Staff of Storms in 'BaseW', but not in 'Weapons', for instance.
Also, the entry for Spirit Helmet may be incomplete, lacking special effect?
Edi
November 6th, 2007, 05:45 AM
The difference in BaseW and Weapons is that the latter retrieves date from BaseW and formats it, making it easier to read since you don't have a dozen zeroes on every row.
Where were you looking for the Thunder Bow? It only appears in the BaseI page, since Thunder Bow is the name of the item. The actual weapon granted by the Thunder Bow is Lightning. There is no weapon named "Thunder Bow".
Staff of Storms, are you sure? I need to check that one out. BaseW is sorted by number, Weapons is sorted by name.
What effect is spirit helmet missing? It does have a combat autocast every turn entry for Lightning Bolt.

Maybe I'm just reading it wrong? Well, I've been suffering from insomnia too long, and am not going to worry about it any more tonight. If you'd like to see the results of my insomnia, check out this.

The database contains a lot of data, and has been a big help. Thanks.
It really didn't mean much to me, though, until I put together this little project. Hope it's of interest to someone. It really made me re-evaluate the pathetic 'seeming' Lightning Spear.
The actual gathering of data from the game didn't take too long, thanks to my fast typing skills. But the use policy regarding game text, and figuring out my first wiki page - how to even create it was a challenge, though one with a ridiculously simple answer.

I'm stuck away from my computer right now.
3.10 DB, does it contain the damage numbers for the various poison effects? In 3.08, I found the poisons around weapon id 50, but I saw spec. for the damage. Where would I find out the precise poison damage to be applied?
For clarification, I'm aware of the mechanics. If this was a card game, I'd call it a poison counter. I'm not looking for how much I'll take in a round, but more how many counters a weak/deadly poison piles on.

No, it doesn't, since I don't know the values.

Dom3 DB 3.10 RC2 has been uploaded to the usual location. The RC 1 version had serious errors in the magic site section and all info on locmasks and terrain where the sites may appear is either outright wrong or at the very least suspect. Those errors have been corrected and some other minor tweaks have been done.
I even went to the bother or making the Excel version somewhat more readable by modifying the formula for displaying weapons and armor for units so the empty entries don't show.

Thanks for doing the work to create the update. Much appreciated!
I just noticed one tiny bug in the DB:
Unit #825, Bune the Ice Devil, should be W3H3. He's just W3 in the DB.

ChillSick Swamp, Site 336, shows in the DB (RC-2) as giving E1D1N1 gems. But in a game I am seeing it as W1D1N1.
And must say wonderful work on the DB! As a spreadsheet junkie I am most happy with it!

Thanks for the compliments. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Thanks also for noticing that mistake. I must have mistyped that, since it has always given out water. I'll fix that for the next version.
Though the next version will possibly skip 3.14 altogether and reflect the patch after that.

Could you produce versions with static values instead of the formulas from the DB files you have? Because it does take lots of time to open the DB even on most recent computer hardware. I think most of that time is for replacing all those formulas with their respective values and could be shortened a lot for people who don't want to change the spreadsheet, just view it.

lch, you could also do this yourself by just saving the page you want as a .csv in OpenOffice. So you end up with a directory with a bunch of .csv's, and just open the one you want, for example units (example attached).
There may even be an easier way to do this, but I'm unfortunately lazy, so once I find something that works without much too much trouble, my motivation to find a better solution evaporates.
Edi

Yes, I can do that, Ich.
It's probably a good idea to include a static version for reference and leave a the full DB in case someone wants to copy it and use it as a base for a mod project where a lot of things are changed. That way if someone wants to do a CBM DB for example, they just copy the full DB under a different name and change the values that the mod changes.
Making the static version will be easy, since all it requires is copying everything in a page and then Paste-specialing only its values on anotehr page, that'll get rid of the formulas and the time needed for calculation.
It's also confirmed that there will NOT be a 3.14 version of the DB, but a version for the next patch, since I don't like doing duplicate efforts.
