View Full Version : Blood Hunting Question

What's the most efficient magic level to blood hunt? For instance, is there an advantage to giving low level blood mages equipment that boosts their blood magic level if all they're doing is hunting? Do they get more slaves per turn and is it enough of an increase to warrant the forging of said equipment? Or should anyone with decent levels of blood magic be casting spells and generally doing naughty things on the battlefield?

This will probably answer those questions in detail:

To answer your question directly:

It's most efficient to hunt with a B2 mage (or a B1 with a dowsing rod) in a province between 6K-5K in pop.

I've found that 3 B2 mages in 5K pop provinces with taxes set to zero seem to work the best.

provinces into the low 3k's can even be used, if you have cheap blood-hunters. lower than 4k, usually, and i'll be considering moving.

I've been playing blood hunting nations many times, and I wonder if too much BH provokes pop migration events.
Does someone have noticed something similar ?
In which case, it would be better to avoid provinces with a high natural income.

So if all I have is level 1 blood hunters, is it worthwhile to spend slaves forging them a booster to level 2? Most of the blood forged boosters are 40 slaves each, what's the increase in slave income between a B1 and a B2 mage?

B1 = 50% chance of successful hunt, for drn+1 slaves
B2 = 90% chance, drn+2 slaves

So almost but not quite doubled.

And no, don't forge boosters, forge the dousing rods.

Not worth giving boosters to level_1 blood hunters. The boosters should be given to the higher level blood casters and/or rainbow blood casters.

It seems like unrest causes events like Barbarian Attacks and pop migration, and blood hunting causes unrest.

In general, I like 5-6K provinces that don't have high natural income.

Also note that every point of Blood means anextra slave gained on a successful hunt. That means that a powerful Blood god can hunt like a champ.

Is this actually the case in dom3? I remember talking with... I think it was Folket and Boron and they were saying that in dom3, wandering mobs of like 10 or more blood hunters accompanied by patrollers was the way to go. Pretty sure they were both assuming a growth scale, also. Never tested it myself as I rarely play blood...

Not sure about 'wandering' mobs... every time they move is a turn lost which could have been blood hunting. I'd suggest a mob of blood hunting mages only move after population has dropped below 4000.

"B1 = 50% chance of successful hunt, for drn+1 slaves
B2 = 90% chance, drn+2 slaves"

Is this info in the manual? If not it would be great to put in the FAQ.

Dousing rods increase blood level by two for blood hunting purpose only. So level 1 blood mages with dousing rods are the most cost effective way to blood hunt as they now hunt as a blood 3 mage.

The bonus a Blood Dousing Rod isn't named in the manual, but the formula for hunting is shown.

Pretty sure the rods only increase by one level.
Still worth it though.

The dousing rods are worth forging for level_1 hunters, but the boosters are not worth forging for level_1 hunters.

Why exactly would you waste a valuable B4 mages time forging an expensive booster when you can just empower the cultist with 30 blood?

Dousing Rod = 5 slaves
Boosters = More than 5 slaves

Logic prevails!
