Scallywag: Lair of the Medusa from Chronic Reality and Shrapnel Games is one of the most...unique titles I have seen in long time. This game makes no pretenses about being anything that it is not. It calls itself a hack N slash dungeon crawl and it is just that. But then again it can be so much more.

Out of Eight highlights:
The highlight of the graphics is the lighting effect from your lamp: it looks good and is an integral part of the gameplay, not just a bell or whistle. -and- Scallywag also features some of the best editing tools I’ve seen since Europa Universalis III. All of the files are simple text entries that are used to generate each of the levels. That means anyone can come in and change a lot of the settings without having an extensive modding background. -and- Overall, Scallywag is a good RPG that offers enough replay value through its random and custom elements to make it a notable title.



Final rating is 6 out of 8, which by his definition means "Buy it if you like the genre".

A new review! In the magazine Knights of the Dinner Table isse #134, Rick Moscatello says of Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa:

"The old-school style artwork on the box doesn't mislead: this is a classic hack and slash solo dungeon crawl, along the lines of such classics as Nethack and Rogue..."

"...the mod system makes it a must-have for dungeon-maker wannabes. Anyone with an interest in learning even rudimentary game making should check it out..."
