ps could we make it 24 hours but IF REQUESTED do a extention of the turn for 24 hours..
if we get farther in the game we could change it to 48 if needed
might put the speed in the game and keeping pressure a bit higher while agreeing that if someone has a decent reason and request another 24 hours we will allow that.
PS
1 how many players are we talking about anyway
2 which map?

You mean 22? 20 * 12 provinces when there are 22 players would be a CROWDED map.

November 6th, 2007, 09:19 PM

I don't understand where you're getting the 12 from. I count at least 21 players signed up. 21 * 20 provinces = 420 provinces. It's 20 prov's per player, right?

My bad. My pretender is uploaded now so it's up to 13. Come on folks. Let's make it a giant, epic, 21-22 player game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Zachariah - It is better if you could state in the first page that pretenders should be uploaded directly to server. Many games requires players to send pretender file through emails to host so they are probably waiting for instruction to send the pretender files.

If you can select your race, it means you have a pretender made for that race and it is uploaded. If you have more than one pretender for that race, you are asked to select one. If you have not made a pretender for a race, then that race is grayed out.

Bah, I hate grizzled old veterans who kill my Cyclops with their nasty blessings....
Scouting would not have helped because I am just learning the game. Even if I saw your troops, I didn't know that particular bless was an effective counter to my steaming hot Abysians.
It was a good, if somewhat painful lesson.

Ahh. Here is a tip. Don't leave your mages next to your Cyclops next time. I saw your mages next to your cyclops the previous fight and then just had my archers target large monsters...I figured I would get some spill over and get your mages with the fire.A bit of luck you had getting the Abyssian hero early. I think he is one of the best, if not the best national hero. He makes a great SC with just a bit of equipment and buffs.

So ends the fate of the aggressor. Tien chi is a society of philosiphers. But Abyssia forced us to put down our quills. Grom, prepare to meet thy fate at the hands of our celestial masters. Acid and magma bolts will rain down upon thee. They have brought with them 5 mighty legions of River demons wielding their weapons of death. Their fury shall lead the attack thru the gates of the Abyss where the last Abyssians cower.

I cannot take turns until Jan 6, as I'm currently locked up behind a crappy connection (PBEM would work, but not TCP/IP). Yeah, I think Zach needs to restart the server. I've been getting the dreaded hang on "Waiting for game info" screen. You get around that by starting in windowed mode, and then starting up a second instance of the game. Then you can get in. It's a pain though, and I hate windowed mode.

for some reason, this game has been troublesome. I have to try and connect, force-quit Dominions 3, and then relaunch it again in order to successfully connect. But the server and the game have been running pretty much non-stop, with just a brief downtime a week ago or so.
Lingchih
January 27th, 2008, 10:08 PM
When I go to play a turn in this game, I first launch Dom3 in a window
"C:\Program Files\dominions3\dom3.exe" -w
That one will hang. I don't force quit, but just launch Dom3 again, this time in regular fullscreen mode. Then I am able to connect and get in.
After I play my turn, I quit Dom3, and then force quit the windowed one that is still hanging. Seems to work every time.

Huh?
I informed you that there was problem connecting to server and then I moved to .14 version and got never-ending downloading file. Anyway, it's your call.

What? You AI'd Ulm. That's one of the biggest players in the game. Are you sure he has been staling? I share a 20+ province border with him. If he is gone AI that totally changes my gameplan.

Thanks Holyfrog. They have huge, nasty armies of archers. Gear up those big shields and anti-arrow spells. Of course, who knows what the AI will build now. I'm holding off attacking them for one more turn, in case Tequilich comes back.

February 4th, 2008, 01:03 AM
Yeah, we all did I think. I believe it's not too late for Zach to undo the set to AI. I don't know if he will read this in time though. And, he may decide to just let you go AI anyway, after two stales. I'm moving troops into defensive positions anyway though. I think AI Ulm will attack me. If you are not set to AI, know that the armies on your border are there just in case.

Holy Balls, Batman! What a turn! Ulm took back nearly half the provinces I had conquered. That truly is a powerful AI. Tequilich had them set up very well. Still, they can be defeated. I fear much loss of life though. It's a good thing we of Pangaea fear loss of life so lightly.

You will most likely soon have an even more powerful AI. I'm going out of town again from the 21st for about a week and I don't think a sub will much like the microing my bloated Fomoria has become. With so many players becoming AI I've lost my motivation for this game despite my leading position and I would rather focus my energies and time elsewhere; I think I staled half of my last 8 turns.
In hindsight overrunning Sauromatia was a mistake... but having only one castle for sooo long was just too much of a temptation http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I may have difficulty finding time to play if I stay in the game and become a large nation. In fact, when T'C failed I think I'll get beaten in a few turns(I made a big mistake in this game and end up with a very small army and lots of useless researchers), never expected so many nations will go AI, that's why I joined other games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

And I just verified, Fomoria has all the Artifacts... at least all of the good ones. Not much reason to keep playing this one.
Unless you guys want to have some kind of Pretender showdown at the OK Corral. That could be fun. I have a decked out Gorgon that could fly to some centrally located province.

February 23rd, 2008, 03:36 PM
Not sure what Fomoria having the artifacts has to do with anything, and the AI's are most certainly not more powerful than me, but shard failed to set Fomoria to AI before he left and with Yomi on the ropes and Holyfrog wavering there's really not much of a game left here.
If you you guys want to do a three vs one alliance against me and we can get Zach to set Fomoria to AI i'll do that, otherwise i guess we should bag it.

Out of curiosity, I took a look at the turn. Holy cow Tir! There were so many thunder strikes raining down on Ulm's capitol troops, I thought maybe Thor himself was in the battle. That was amazing... an entire army (albeit a small one) decimated by thunder strikes, with your own troops not having to even move. There were bodies flying everywhere.
Nice.

Alas, although it looks like fun, I cannot run the game anymore. Launching 3 instances of the game, in order to get past the syncinfo bug, causes my graphics card to overheat. I won't chance it again.

The 'multi-windows' method is not working for me either.
Now I can connect in this way:
1). open Dominions
2). try to connect
3). if it cannot, kill it in Task Manager
4). repeat step 1
I find that if I don't close the first window, I always can't connect, it is quite strange http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

It is rather interesting to see the progress of this game. I have not played in several turns, since Zach has disappeared and the server is buggy, but I logged in just to set myself to AI (since the server is still running).
In the several turns since I have not logged in, I have lost no provinces, and lost very few troops. In fact, I found I now have over 5000 gold, fortresses under siege are ready to be stormed, and my research has gone through the roof. On top of all that, the server appears to be working normally now, with no syncinfo bug (waiting for info) in evidence.
I think I will play this again for a few turns. If anyone else wants to join me, do so. It still looks very interesting.
