Who is your favorite indpendent mage? And why.
Mine is the sorceress. Air and astral. With a skull cap, coin and crystal shield, you can spam soul slay, plus you get wind guide, good air battle magic and you have two paths to teleport them all over the map.

Enchantress. N2### is hard to beat, since it allows for ridiculous diversification of magic. Moon Mages or, even better, Elludian Moon Mages make for some kickass artillery with some astral boosting and Nether Darts and appropriately boosted (astral), they can move large numbers of undead/demons in a hurry by gateway.
No old age either on any of those.

Adepts of Silver Order. Earth and Astral Guaranteed with Air and Fire randoms.

Enchantress, because she actually turns up in games.

Wizards!
Great magic diversity, and huge scads of research. You can't argue with that.

Amazons - what, they show up everywhere.
Regards Sombre:
I unfortunately haven't found a single blood site, despite taking a blood-heavy pretender.
I have found in about 17 prewar provinces.
Tower of the Iron Order (E2S2?1)
Tower of the Silver Order (A2S2?1)
The Inverted Tower (Illusionist, glamour stealth A2)
The Underworld (steatlh, glamoured E2N2 gnome + Trogs)
Flesh Eater's Isle (ghouls)
The Ultimate Gateway (50 conjuration)
Gateward Valley (centaur chariots)
And exceptional population types:
Elephants, Crystal Amazons, Jade Amazons, Druids
Problem is affording anything.

Searching for blood sites is a waste of time. I counted after the lastest patch and IIRC there are 4 sites that give 1 blood slave and then there is Mictlan capitol with 3 and I think there is another capitol with a blood generator.
The only viable blood is the blood hunt.

There is also several good blood sites. One is giving a 60% discount on all your blood rituals, basically brokenly good for a blood nation.

The vast majority of blood sites are Arenas(15 gold and unrest), and even then blood is the rarest blood site type. Searching is almost useless unless you get The Summoning cicle or one of the other Blood reduction sites.
You should have have death and nature on your pretender and then summoned Lamia Queens(which get blood on randoms).
That being said, lets get to my favorite blood(or maybe death) site: the Black Tower. Circle Masters are blood and death and have a dousing bonus. If you don't do blood and death, you now do it in a major way.
PS. Edratmman you are thinking of Sauromatia's capitol (2 blood slaves a turn).

The 60% discount blood site and 50% discount conjuration site are insanely good. I think there's also a fairly powerful construction site(better than steel ovens anyway) but I could be wrong.
I absolutely love the ultimate gateway, and unless I was a blood nation or in a very special situation I would take it over almost any other site.
Tartarians for 5 gems, ghost riders for 3, manifestation for 2 and various cheaper mages(lamias, troll/sea kings, fairy queens ect) make the ultimate gateway good.
If a nation with good national summons in conjuration gets the ultimate gateway theres a very high chance they will win the game.
Can you imagine Pythium or Marignon getting 50% off of Seraphs and other angels or the Monkey mages getting summons like Rudras for less than 30 pearls?
This is madness!(waiting for the 300 reference)

I was really hoping to be able to recruit some blood mages. Playing Oni, I hoped to cast that demon strengthening spell in addition to strength of giants.

High Magus. 3 randoms and 13 research.

Recruitable blood mage sites are also very uncommon. I always play 75% sites and very seldom get one.

Adepts. Silver are best, but the rest very good as well.

Lore masters are pretty good for magic diversity to. Plus with 3 full random picks you can bootstrap a blood economy pretty soon as about 1/3 will have a blood pick.

I like adepts, but I seem to get the sorceress more often. If you play a nation with nature, the enchantress loses a lot of appeal even though she is a lot more common than any of the ones I am thrilled to get.

I like shadowseers quite a bit, although they don't have the same kind of power as the others mentioned here.
Lore masters are pretty awesome. They get my vote.

Personally? The Circle Master. 2B2D for _100g_. That's insane. Also consider that the site (Black Tower) gives you, what, 2 death gems in income, and that gets you into both Death and Blood in a big way. But honestly, back in Dom2 when I did a price comparison on mages, Circle Masters were _by far_ the cheapest mages for their effect in the game. With the magic paths 'tightening up' in Dom3 (and making Blood harder to get), they're most likely even better.

Wizards indeed. Lots of magic paths, and incredible research. And you get that Wizard Knight.

Anyone who has paths my nation doesn't have. It's really variable.
The Garnet amazons are enough to bootstrap any nation into blood. Anyone with good randoms is great.
If my nation lacks nature, I'll often put some on the pretender so he can make thistle maces and use the crummy little shamans to start searching.

All like said Thejeff.
Ah, one difference : never have I seen an indep mage with a blood pick on it ( apart from radom ones ) so when I want blood, I take it on my pretender.

The only indy mages with blood are Conjurer, Circle Master (Black Tower), Garnet Amazons, Sorcerer (Ebony Tower) and Bloodhenge Druid.

Something that is amusing is that in one game (EA Vanheim) I had all of those in addition to my national Blood mages.
Quite a sight to see. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Here's the indy mages who only have a random chance to get blood:
Jaguar Tribe Priests: 1 in 40.
Eludian Moon Mages: 1 in 4.
Lore Masters: about 3 in 8.

Eludian Moon Mages are my current fav. Blood random is nice and they can spam Vengenge of the Dead almost out of the box with Mind Hunt available via a single Astral Booster.
