I have cast wish for unique unit that is owned by the enemy. I got the message "suddenly /Unique Unit's name/ appeared right out side" But the unit is still with the enemy. There is no unit, either commander or non-commander in my capitol or the place were the wish was cast.
Is this a bug? Its a huge waste of 100 gems and a wish.

hmmm... what was the unit, or you do not wish to say? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
was it immortal?

You never get control of an enemy unit by wishing. you can steal unique artifacts though.

Really? I was fairly sure that wishing for elemental royalty ect gave them to you even if they were being used.

In test games I ran using wish recently, you actually can wish for unique units that are currently being owned by opponents. They turn up with all their gear - though they turn up hostile! If you are convinced you can kill them or better yet, charm them it can be a great wish.

I have seen this used in MP.

How can you wish for a unit that has the same name as another unit (ex: titan)?

In dom2 you can wish for a unique not by his name but for his type. For example demonlord instead of the unique name. You get multiple demonlords of the same type but never the "real unique" one. But not sure how it works in dom3.

It is changed in dom3 - now you cannot have multiple unique units. So if you wish for "lord of the plague wind", then pazuzu turns up. If someone had pazuzu already he turns up "hostile" in the wishing province.

He did not turn up at all hostile or not. And it was elemntal royalty. I could have sworn that it worked in other games. Oh well.

why did it not work in this game?

Here's one possible reason: If the unit was given a magical movement order (AQ casting cloud trapeze for example, or the gatestone, etc.) and it resolved after your wish the unit would vanish to the destination province before the magical battle phase of the turn. The game probably doesn't check for labs during the casting phase, since the only way for a unit to move and cast in the same turn is via a wish. Perhaps the opposing player would let you know if that happened? Otherwise it sounds like a bug.

Or you did not type the correct unit name.

He wouldn't have seen the message in that case.

I don't think this is possible because when you type something wrong you get a message" I cannot give you that"
I always watch for this message.
Besides, I got "Unique Unit appeared outside" which would not have happened if I had typed a nonexistant thing.

Perhaps a Queen of Elemental Water whose description indicates she can't leave the sea, and either an amulet of the fish isn't in place or QoEW is special-cased?

Hmmm, he is not unique as I have 2 kings of elemental fire... perhaps it is not possible to wish for a special non-unique summon.

He is unique. There are three fire kings, but they are all different. There is only one Rhuax.

When I say three fire kings, I mean two fire kings and a king of banefire.

I set up a test game. Two nations cast Wish on the same turn, both wishing for "King of Magma", wishing by name ("Rhuax") was not allowed.
One nation got just one message:
Arriod has cast Wish.
Suddenly a King of Magma appeared in the Laboratory.
The other nation got two messages:
Wonde has cast Wish.
Suddenly a King of Magma appeared in the Laboratory.
followed by
Suddenly the King of Magma disappeared in a puff of smoke.
But ... he's nowhere to be found! He's not in either nation, and he didn't attack either nation.
Edit Whoops! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif I forgot that the unit shows up as a non-commander, when it doesn't exist in the game yet.
Maybe Rhuax was magically killed in the same turn? So, he shows up outside the gates, and gets hit with a Mind Hunt (targeted at your capital), so no battle took place? Or if he was horror marked, maybe he showed up, and got killed by a horror before he could fight your militia.

Dunno what went wrong...
Code:

com235(...) is casting spell 410(Wish) (a2=100, a3=10002)
Labspell: ... casts Wish
Fulfilling wish for ...
moving Rhuax to land 124

but he isn't there.

Ah, now I see him. He's sieging the castle. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Just like some others already said he would. Since R'lyeh was already sieging the castle, you only helped him by teleporting Rhuax there.

But he was seiging a castle that was not where the wish took place. I am puzzled.

You set up a test game, where as 2 nations you reasearched all the way to level 9 alteration? Well I must admire your dedication.

In what province did you cast the spell, Cor?
I can say I haven't noticed anything concerning your wish for Rhuax. I haven't received an ingame message or noticed a change of his position (not that I exactly knew where he was before your wish, but anyway).

Oh, that's true! For some reason he appeared in Iron Range (98), not Resting Heights (124).

Oh, you did. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif "Suddenly Rhuax the King of Magma was teleported to Resting Heights (124)" on turn 156. But if you click on "Go to commander" you'll be directed to Iron Range (98) instead.
