View Full Version : Ariete Icon Set

Here Some Italian heavies.
The standard C1, an up-armored one as those in Iraq, and a hypothetical C2 based on the Ariete presented at Eurosatory 2002.
I need your feedback on two things:
1) Should I add the turret mounted smoke grenade launchers?
2) Is there a need for a NATO 3 tones camo for the set? I think the vast majority of those tanks are simply painted in green.
Best regards,
oragus

Looks good Pierre.
1) If it has them, add them, is my philosophy.
2. If at the very least, we need a desert tan or whatever the Italians use in the desert, and a winter scheme for them. To my knowledge the Ariete has not been sold to other countries as of yet, so leave it green. I have not seen a 3 tone NATO scheme on one yet.
Nice Work.

Thanks for your effort!
1- yes it has them
2-In 2004 the NATO 3-tone camo was presented at the Republic Day parade in Rome, it was said it was going to be progressively adopted since then, together with snow- and desert paints for special missions. I don't know how widespread it is now, but sure it would look cool!
You can find good pictures here

P.S. so I'm not alone posting about italians! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif /threads/images/Graemlins/Flag_Italy.gif

Thanks for the comments.
I'll add the smoke grenade launchers and I'm working on the 3 tone camo. I think I will darken the MG-3's barells too (like oragus is doing it on his machineguns). It looks better.
Brummbaer, if you like Italian stuff, oragus has released great icons for the pumas, the VCC-1's and the VCC-2's.
Bye,

Here it is again, with some minor tweaks and the C1 in NATO 3 tones and in winter camo.

Pierre, these look really good. Pardon me if I sound pompous, but it looks like your technique is really maturing.
Mind if I store these someyhere for future inclusion in the Cold War 2020 mod? (for waaaay in the future when I'll take on the Italian OOB, for which input is most welcome may I say)
That'd mean reworking them a wee bit to my liking and deriving custom C2 and C3 variants (at least), nothing fancy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Again, great job in any case, keep them coming!

As I said I was feeling lonely talking about italians! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I posted some adjustements in the OOB34 thread. I looked into making a brand new OoB, but it's way too much work for me now, plus I can't tell much about the earlier decades.
But if I can help some way, please just ask! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
