Every year, my wife and I watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the holidays. It led me to think how fun it would be to create a Ring of Power - and possibly the lesser rings - as custom forgable items for Doms3. Of course, until a patch comes out that makes it possible to mod custom magic items, this is just a wishful thinking / thought exercise, but I was curious as to what everybody else might imagine would go into a comparatively balanced Ring of Power unique item.
My initial thoughts would include the following item attributes:
+2 Ring of Wizardry
astral
does not age similar to boots of youth
causes fatigue
possibly minor regen or spell focus
cursed
chance of horror mark

I'd say increasing age, but with regeneration. Additional magic vulnerability. Increased encumberance.
And most importantly, a large chance every month of increased insanity!

Sauroman should most definitely have a chance to show up, with an undead legion, to reclaim the ring http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I'd not make it cursed though, and either that saruman idea OR the horrormark

and the owner of the ring should summon hobbits to protect the ring http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Conquest of Elysiun II had the following group wandering around the world:
A Wizard, with the item Ring of Fire
An elf and three hobbits
A dwarf, a hero and an unexpected hero
I tried clicking the empty parts, and managed to view the ninth one. It was a fourth hobbit, one equipped with mithril chain mail, some kind of a sword - and The One Ring.
I've also found others, such as One of the Nine, in abandoned temples and such. Unfortunately, I don't know what they do, because that isn't how CoEII works.

Idea: a non-reversable, inevitable transformation, like the lycanthropic amulet, into a cursed, hoburg-sized wraith-like undead being with (normal) glamour . In the meantime, it grants immortality (until the transform) and enhanced glamour but severely horror-marks.

Oh, geez, someone had to make a thread that begged a response. Let's see if I can make a good ring or four.
The One Ring
+3 to all Magic Paths
Insanity
Immortality
Ethereal
Horror Marking
Narya, the Ring of Fire
+3 Fire Magic
+30 Standard
Reinvigoration: 5+
Auto-cast: Relief
Vilya
+3 Air Magic
Air Shield (100)
Shock Res 100
Probably a few other things
Nenya, the Ring of Adamant
+2 Water Magic
+2 Earth Magic
Invulnerability
Poison Res 200
Something else
Dwarven Ring of Durin's Tribe
+2 Earth Magic
Doubles Income in province
That's what I can come up with so far.
You _could_ also make the One Ring only +1 to each path and have it cast Hellpower at the beginning of each battle. That would be quite interesting and give you the +3 to all with the Horror Marking.

The Ring is a *pretender chassis*.
It's immortal, because if it "dies" another Hoburg just picks it up.
It's very stealthy, it has assasinate, death and astral magic, and a strong dominion. It should probably do something else, too.

Cause random assassination events where the ring holder is assaulted by assorted men/hobbits/cave creatures/parodies.

1. Must be cursed. Almost unthinkable that someone would voluntarily transfer it, and totally beyond belief that a nation would have 2 pure souls to willingly transfer it. Curse is closest option.
2. I like the +3 to all magic paths, a 60% forge bonus and a forge of the ancients spell on the ring bearer himself.
3. The ring should be granted after casting a global spell with a 60%(?) chance of the ring being granted to the casting nation, and to a random commander (magic users only?) when it is granted.
4. Fatigue, luck, etheral, spell focus and immortality.
5. Horror marking for sure. But also a mandatory arena battle with the pretender in a random interval between 10 and 35 turns. The ring bearer is the attacker in the arena battle and will replace the pretender if he prevails. If the ring bearer loses the ring is granted to a random nation (maybe as an arena prize) after a random interval.
