While I won't stop tinkering with the iraqi OOB (following the developments of the iraqi security forces, correcting mistakes etc.) I was thinking about what to do next.
In particular have a couple of options in mind.
1) A clean up of the Afghanistan OOB; correcting mistakes, following the ANA development and so on.
2) A fictional iranian OOB mod, based on the premise that the Shah does not fall and the armed forces modernization is carried on.

Huh, 50-50, don't envy you the decision making http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I voted for Imperial Iran http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I would actually honestly agree. Start them both and just work on each as much as you feel energetic enough to do. I have a number of projects going concurrently, even if the Vietnam pack is the one I put the most effort into consistently.

I find it a matter of focus. Finding stuff about places like Iraq or Afghanistan or nailing things like Iran purchase patterns isn't easy, albeit satisfying (otherwise I wouldn't be doing it of course).
For example did you know that Iran purchased a significant stock of soviet weapons (BTR-50s, ZSU-23-4 etc.) in the early 70's when the Shah felt America had let him down on some issue (some Phantom order IIRC)? Or that the iraqis got ERA for some of their tanks in the 90's ?
At least semi-reliable sources for these things are hard to come by and switching back and forth takes more time than simply concentrating on one subject at time. That being said if the general consensus is that you prefer to wait for both longer I may go down that route, although I can't guarantee I won't develop a preference for one or the other at some point.

Both!
I've been thinking about the "Imperial Iran" projet for a while, it's still on my drawing boards for modelling, but as far as OOBs go I'll leave it alone for want of a real use.
I'd say concentrate on Afghanistan, that will be more helpful, though maybe less fun.
Even then, I'd like to see an Imperial Iran OOB, but... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

That's where I am heading these days. It is a relatively straightforward job as I can exploit a lot of the work done for the iraqi mod. The only big headache is deciding if Al Qaeda and the Taliban should stay or be reserved for the Mujahidin OOB. The emphasis will be on the regular forces anyway.

Personally I'd put Al Qaeda and the Taliban with the Mujahidin.
As you said, a regular OOB should concentrate on the regular armed forces.

That is, in fact, under discussion ATM. Both the Taliban and Al Qaeda will be handled a bit differently in both the Afghan and Mujahadeen OOB in the next OOB update.

The problem as far I see it is filling the gap between the meltdown of the DRA Army in the spring of 1992 and the birth of the ANA at the beginning of 2003. This becomes an issue especially during the taliban era when you have the taliban and the United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan (AKA the northern alliance) duking it out. Personally I am inclined to pick the northern alliance and apply some fudge to bridge the 1992-2003 gap. However the country is flying the taliban flag in the game and the picklists pick Al Qaeda and Co.
