View Full Version : 3.14 Event: National Auto-troop

I just had an event in my Bogarus game:

'A wave of religious zeal has swept the province and a group of _lowborn_ (emphasis mine) soldiers committed to your cause have joined your army.'

I check the province, and I notice that I received 32 Voi Axemen. I was wondering if everyone would get them, or if we have an event now that gives out a specific troop based on nation.

(I believe I had an event, same game already, where I got the normal militia.)

Information would be appreciated!

This is great! I had the same event with Bogarus. I have yet to have it with another faction but i look forward to it being there.

They did mention new random events would be in the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I do think that this random event is for all nations. I was playing an SP game with MA Eriu and I got the same event with the "Lowborn" emphasis. And I got 40 Milesian Spearmans.

I got milites with LA Pythium. It's great if that replaces the generic milita. At least, it's colorful, and 40 milites are actually able to take a few indep provinces by themselves (provided you bring a leader of course).

Had it with Shinuyama, I got those little Bakemonos with clubs. 68 of them.

awesome. That makes the events more interesting, and does a lot towards balancing the luck scale.

Any guesses what this might mean for mod nations ?

If all nations indeed get events like these, mod nations can imitate the phenomenom by choosing a nation of another era, and replacing the unit that is summoned. E.g. a MA nation can replace LA Bogarus instead of taking up a nation slot, and replace Voi Axemen with something appopriate.

As for whether new mod nations that don't use this trick get militia, I've got no idea.

It does not replace militia, you can get militia too.

lonely militia or with the priest?

I got 100 lonely militia as LA Man. And I also got an event with lowborn.

Maybe there's a flag in the unit description that tags it as 'national militia'? Or the event uses (one of) the troops usable for PD?

Unfortunately not. It would be nice though.

When finishing Bogarus I was annoyed that they didn't get enough voi, since you rarely buy lowly troops. Instead you get militia, which is inappropriate. When I added the voi event for Bogarus I thought other nations would benefit as well, especially monkies and bakemonos and stuff.

I think most nations have got one or sometimes two new 'militia' events, but there are some that are still lacking. More will probably appear, since they are quite easy to add. There is unfortunately no easy way to add them to mods. Endos suggestion is probably thrte best working one.

Hm. I have to say the new events significantly improve the nation atmosphere (as well as remove the annoyance of near-constant plain militia events when going high luck).

On the topic of atmosphere, the new nation being much darker is also great plus (and I hope you continue the trend). Thanks Illwinter + Intern. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yes, the new nation-based militia is a pleasant surprise. Part of me always wanted to buy low-end soldiers for thematic purposes but the opportunity cost made it unappealing. Now I no longer have to make that decision!

The new thematic militia event is great!

Now, please, get rid of the regular militia event!

Pretty please?

This is great, I second the get rid of regular militia, its far more thematic to get your low end national troops as a random event.

The normal militia was kept as there are still nations that doesn't have their own unit events.

I doubt anyone would cry if they suddenly no longer got any militia events. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Sad that event modding in not in the cards though, so many possibilities. Are poptype and non-national site recruitment modding also major technical hurtles?

During the development of Dominions_3 I requested the option for modding of events, but it must have been too complex. Hopefully it will become available for Dominions_4.

I agree with Meglobob and others on removing the generic militia event.

That also means LA Ermor will never receive those upkeep-leaching militias?
Cheer for this small yet great move of improvement!

the militia event is quite funny, as he creates place for strange diplomacy. ("Is it okay for you when i attack you with lots of militia in province 153?")

but i would also second his removal, or move him to misfortune: "some peasants have declared themselve part of our army, and are now eating the bigger part of our supplies" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Sad to say, MA C'tis still gets ordinary militia events. C'tis light infantry would have been nice. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Ha. Ha. The first thing I did when I heard about this was to test it. LA Ermor still gets flaggies and militia. Though militia are by far worse =\

I'd like it if ermor just got more undead!

I'd recommend: "A hermit nercomancer comes down from a high mountain to devoting himself and his unique creations to the Ermor nation."
The unique creations can be a random mix of undead units.

Strange there's no "disband" option.

Hm... at least we can still leave it for 3.16...
But maybe after 3.14 follws 3.141, then 3.1415... That means we will never receive another patch since 3.16 is never reachable...

MA Ermor. I got 20 Velites. Consider that would cost me 200 gold, I would say that it's a pretty good event.
