Hi guys,
I've been watching Band of Brothers over the last couple days (for like the 10th time) and was thinking of firing up the Band of Brothers campaign. I read the opening notes for Scenario 1, which recommend you buy 10 C-47s and one Airborne Recon formation with the 702 points you are given.

I'm assuming this is because of some point tweaks that have been made, but 702 points is not enough to buy the recommended units.

Has anyone else played through this campaign? Does it still play well with this version of the game? Have any updates been released for it?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Never played it played but went to have a look, and you're right it doesn't make sense. Also I believe all the other scenarios don't require airborne insertions so why would you want to waste points on Daks, ammo drops I suppose??

Maybe I'm missing a grander scheme here!!??

You can edit the campaign, but I know not everybody’s comfortable with that.

***BTW This should be in Campaigns, Scenarios & Maps Forum, the Mods will likely move it shortly.

Any time the OOB points calculator is adjusted in any way and the OOB's updated it can screw up some of these campaigns that require you to buy specific formations instead of providing them to you. I try to make adjustments to the points allotted based on a rough formula of the changes but it may not have been enough.

I will investigate this

Ahhh yep....... the 702 points are SUPPORT POINTS not core points and support points only stay with you for that ONE scenario.

Ok here's the good news. Yes, you are 33 points short but IF you buy the Para Recon [A] formation then all the C-47's you can afford everyone, core and support force will be able to load and drop on the map

I will make a note to adjust this for the next patch but the campaign as it sit's is fully playable

Thanks for the quick responses! I am going to dive into the campaign tonight but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something first.

OK one more question....

Does anyone have any tips on the most historically accurate way to load the C-47s in this scenario? I basically just put a squad in each transport, then divvy up the scouts, snipers, and bazooka teams among the planes as best I can. Historically, was there any particular way this would be done? Like would a bazooka team be more likely to be on an HQ plane, etc...?

What is more historical is how they were after the jump. All over the place. Loading as you have by what fits is probably going to give you a better challenge after they hit the ground.

I also played this campaign recently and saw the insufficient allocation of purchase points, as I couldn't buy the full company IIRC, 1-2 sections were missing- you can, however, fix this easily by yourself by re-editing the campaign, a task on 1min. Just gotta be honest with yourself, don't give yourself 1000 points extra, this would scrap any game balance...

Are you refering to the start up scenario of that campaign or one further in ?

It was right at the start IIRC - I played it about 2 months ago, so I'm not sure.

Cheers John,
Enjoy the campaign, hopefully you will have better luck (or management!) than me. - Became a statistic in the first battle. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

G'day, thought I'd have a crack at this campaign.

When assigning LZ's for the first air drop, the time until drop varies from 8.3 to 9.0. Which means I have to burn all those turns before anything shows up. The notes says towards the end of turn 1.

Am I missing something?

Probably you omitted to plot your DZs in the pre-game bombardment turn, as paras are meant to be done. They will then arrive on turn 1 (or later if you set the delay adjust up before plotting) at the drop zones that you plotted pre-game.

Air assault operations are planned well in advance, as are level bomber missions. Therefore, if a player forgets to plot them as preplanned bombardment then they really should not arrive at all. However, as a convenience for those players who forget to do that, we allow them to be plotted as if on-call strike air but at a very long delay.

Sounds like you need to restart, and this time remember to plot your drops as pre-game bombardments.

Cheers
Andy

This is why reading the accompanying text for the campaign is always a good idea :)

During deploy, load your paras and your support Recon formation on their 11 aircraft and target 11 of the available 15 DZs on the map. Load 'em like you want them. You get to choose flight direction and which 11 DZs to use, but assign only one aircraft to each DZ. Historically, they flew in from the left side of your map. I suggest loading your paras so that each plane carries some snipers or scout units. On game turn 1, you will have no troops on the map. They will arrive and jump at the end of turn 1.*

Thanks Andy.

Don, I did mention "The notes [sic] says towards the end of turn one" so I must have read it.

Was probably thinking of England at the time and missed it;-)

All good now and thanks for the quick responses.
