Lets post examples of mages being extra smart in execution of their duties. :-)
In the first one, Onyx sorceress is meant to buff heavy troops that will fight Agarthan big, strong infantry. Instead she buffs unarmoured priestess, oreiads, and Onyx sorceresses (but not herself, selfless!)
Fortunately, this battle had no casualties, as buffed casters routed the enemy before lines clashed. So I guess the sorceress knew which units are the valuable ones.
Note: there are attached pictures, look at them :-)

If you are so wise that you can actually predict future events, why make an effort that is not needed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Second example, enemy Wyrm is retreating, and Jarls have cornered him. Crystal mage, out of script, decides to kill Wyrm, with "Gifts from Sky"... although Wyrm is surrounded by friendly, and that spell always hits more than one square.
Fortunately, mage is blind in addition to dumb, so he is off enough to miss Jarls. Unfortunately, he is off enough to land hits on Jarl's retainers. Jarl hirdman is a tough and expensive unit... but not tough to juggle meteors.

Hey, give the crystal mage a break, not only was this one blind! but gifts from sky is an inaccurate spell as it is.

I love the thought of a blind mage casting Gifts from the Sky out of spite...

I thought you lost your mage license if you go blind and cast offensive spells? At least you should get a fine.

I think that was 'blind drunk' and 'offensive smells' in the original legislation.

The thought of the blind mage's "handlers" trying to point her in the right direction to cast Gifts From The Sky made me laugh out loud.
"Left... a little more left ...NO RIGHT! Damn."
