View Full Version : Want to buy the game, a couple of questions

Hi,

I want to buy the game from http://www.linux-onlineshop.de/product_info.php/info/p1192_Dominions-3--The-awakening.html, since I do not own a credit card. Is this an authorized seller? I see a lot of threads about people buying pirate copies, so I want to make sure.

I use a Mac, with a Bootcamp partition. Are the Mac and Windows versions on the same disc as the Linux one? I am asking since this is a Linux shop.

Tia!

There are no different versions of the cd.

I don't have the answers to your questions but wanted to give you a heads up. The 54 bucks ends up being about $0.02 an hour.

My $0.02 worth,

Thanks, but I'll need an answer to the first question, if anyone is in the know. I don't want to waste 54€, since I am mainly interested in multiplayer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'd ask Shrapnel (click Support tab at left) if that site is a real vendor or not.

The disk is one disk with all versions on it.

Meh, that requires me to register another account. I try to avoid spreading registered accounts as much as possible. Noone from Shrapnel reads these forums?

It's a sensible policy you have with regard to registering for accounts, but Shrapnel is pretty harmless so I would just go ahead and do it if you're concerned. Generally they reply very quickly I believe.

That site looks reasonably trustworthy to me though. Pirates rarely get such good setups - most pirate copies seem to be sold via eBay, second hand shops and so on.

I'll give it a day to see if one of the Shrapnel guys reads this, then I'll have to register there, I guess. Problem is I will probably never ever go there again, so registering to ask one question is not very appealing to me.

Thanks for responding all.

They or forum moderators generally do notice - it'd just be faster for you to contact them directly. This way though, it'll be a public answer others might use.

You could also post in Shrapnel General forum rather than Dom 3 forum, which is described as a place to ask Shrapnel questions and that has less traffic than this forum so it might get noticed faster.

You could also send a PM to Mindi or Annette, they are often online and they are admins here.

You can easily message Annette at least (I had some questions/problems in the past) and she answers quickly.

I bought the game for my brother from that onlineshop and it's definitely legitimate.

Hi, Kingwood,

I truly appreciate your making the effort to make sure you are buying from a legitimate reseller. We don't sell directly to this particular company, but we do have a company in Europe that acts as a distributor to other shops. I am checking with them to verify this is one of their customers and will let you know as soon as I hear back.

And to verify earlier replies, all three installations are on one CD. So if you buy from one of our authorized Linux dealers, you will also receive the Mac and PC installations.

Thanks Annette, awesome customer service. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

meister_miagi said he already bought the game from the store, so I guess it is legitimate. I will be waiting for your definite answer though, then buy the game.

I've heard back from our partner in Germany, and yes, this company is one of their customers. When you receive the game from them it should come shrink-wrapped with a coil bound manual and the game CD tucked inside the pages. The CD Key will be printed on the first page of the manual. If what you receive does not fit this description, please let us know right away http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Welcome to the Dominions community!

Thanks a bunch, Annette. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

One last question regarding the multiplayer community:I skimmed through a lot of threads, and there seems to be some sort of conflict regarding Scorched Earth tactics (I assume meaning to make objectives as unuseable for your opponent as possible?) Since I am a player who will use everything available to him, which obviously means if I am on the losing side, I will employ such tactics, will I have enough people to play with? I do not want to join a game, and then have to end up in a discussion regarding my usage of such tactics.

No one will bother you if you do it. I know I do it all the time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. People on this forum just like to dissect every kind of playstyle sometimes... no big deal.

About the only thing that *might* get you the cold shoulder around here (besides cheating) is if you break a lot of NAPs or stale your turn often for no reason. And even then there are some players that do both regularly and still play in lots of games!

Sansanjuan, if you are having to pay 2 cents an hour, you just aren't spending enough time at this game!
