View Full Version : Loemendor PBEM (Game started)

March 1st, 2008, 07:08 PM
Hi people and welcome! This is actually the second try by me to get this PBEM rolling as the old one died out when I lost my internet connection in a move. However, this time I hope to get the help from Llamabeast (who offered his help last time as well, thank you!). Oh well, here is the game settings:

******

The map we will be playing is a modified version of Loemendor by Kaljamaha. The modification is done by me with kind permission from Kaljamaha. The reason is that I want us to play with fixed starting positions and nations. Hopefully it will be a interesting and thematic experience for everyone involved in this PBEM.
I tried to balance the map the best I could without it becoming uninteresting.

The nations I wish you to fill are:
* Pangaea (Jazzepi)
* Ermor (DryaUnda)
* Chelms (Sawyer)
* Marignon (Hadrian_II)
* Utgård (Semigall)
* R'lyeh (vfb)
* T'ien Ch'i (Dedas)
* C'tis (Tequilich)
* Ulm (Valerius)

I will take the nation that is left (this means that the first 8 that answer will get to play).

Hosting will occur every 24h. This may change to 48h eventually.

---

Some tips to the players:
In my modification the terrain is now much important to the specific nations than in the vanilla version. Some examples:

*C'tis has both desert/waste (for its waste survival units) and swamp (for its swamp survival units) close by for added protection.

*Utgård quickly needs to gain some food for its troops as they start in snow (waste). This is very possible if the player examine the map closely for simple expansion ways.

*Marignon should take advantage of its sea faring capability as they start by the coast.

And a lot more that I will let you find out yourself.

---

No rules will change once the game has started.
Any suggestions before start of game are appreciated.

---

Everyone with at least 5 games under their belt are welcome to join.

Dedas

@Tequilich
Not to scare you off or anything, but this game is not a newbie game, meaning things will get rough pretty quick. Also, C'tis is not the easiest nation to play on this map as you are pretty much stranded in wasteland and swamp. I'm not saying that they are worse off than others, as their position will also work to their advantage, but you really need to use their special abilities to the maximum. Coming to mind is summon undead and their excellent priests. Did I mention your neighbor is the "nice and friendly" Ermor? You have been warned. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Damn, only now i noticed this.

Just wanted to say, that i don't have any completed games 'uder belt', i'm pretty much beginner, though i have played many games against AI and i am currently also playing one other game with human players.

But i hope that's ok http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Dedas

Well, this is no easy map. Utgård for example, desperately needs gold, resources and supplies and thus has to expand very aggressively. Imagine hungry giants coming down from the mountains to plunder and pillage for food and for gold.

As you might have noticed I've done this map conversion in the spirit of thematic game play, meaning balance isn't perfect, although it's not bad either. I would like to think of it as somewhere in between; every nation has its chance on winning if played right. Some just have fewer options in the beginning, which adds to the pace and character of the nations.

Sorry, but Bogarus didn't exist when I first modified the map, and I like the thematic "Well of Urd" in the start province. Maybe I switch Utgård for them someday (or you can do it yourself).

A tip to you Hadrian:
Across the sea your capitol is also linked to a nice forest. That means you have to good resource provinces initially. Just beware of the natives on that foreign soil. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Dedas
March 3rd, 2008, 03:36 PM
A tip to everyone:
Scattered around the map are a handful sites of high magical power; ruins, strange houses in the swamp, abandoned graves etc. Be sure to look there for the otherwise scarce (in LA) magic sites.

Dedas

Ok, all pretenders uploaded. The game will commence as soon as Llamabeast sends out the turns. Three things to remember:

* 24h auto host. So be quick or be stalled. If you can't make it tell in advance and I will delay the game a day or two.

* Sheap's diplomacy "rules" are in effect - read them if you haven't! If you don't agree with them, now is the time to say it.

* If you believe perfect balance is the essence of fun you have joined the wrong game (and bought the wrong one as well.)

Good luck everyone! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I don't think you even need to roll back. The status page says Utgard submitted a turn, but Marignon and Man didn't yet.

So it didn't even host with Utgard's orders to go AI.

I think you can just change the email for Utgard, request turn resend, and someone can submit new orders where they don't go AI.

I saw that battle. Nice going Cor2.
T'ien Ch'i will soon assist you against the evil hordes of undeads. Just you hold on.

T'ien Ch'i wise man say: R'yleh and Ermor is a threat to all living and growing things. Attack and defeat them at every opportunity.

Spooky Ancestor Vessels and inadequately protected crossbowmen just do not mix.

Utgard is completely defeated and will shortly go AI - Tien Chi will hold all that is valuable in the the northeast.

Not my best effort - not my worst (hard to believe but I am close to awarding myself the "Worst Sub Ever" in another game).

Thanks all.

Giant men of the north brave fighters, but hit no good with big weapon. Wise man say they need more training.

Do not not worry, giant men, the souls of your dead ancestors will ride to big and glorious war to defeat squishy things from sea.

Thanks for the fight Digress! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif And thank you for continuing even with those awful scales you got from the first player.

What did you think of the map? I for one can say that I loved the challenge of invading a land with almost no food combined with angry giants. I mostly attacked because I guessed it would only be a matter of time before your giant's hunger became so great that they would have come down for me.

Again, thanks for playing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The map looks like fun - its a shame I didn't get to "explore" it more thoroughly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

My play style didn't "synergize" well with +1 productivity/1 cold scales and a 20% air bless is perhaps a little bit sub-optimal for Utgard's sacreds. When my god bit the dust I really couldn't be bothered to call him back (I couldn't really afford to recruit priests).

Good luck to the rest of you.

Did i already say that Burkhard Nachtzehrer is a major pain in the butt? Even after ulm routed, he killed my soldiers for 50 turns (and friendly fire is no fun either.)

R'lyeh may need to go AI in a few days. I've posted for a sub here (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=600846) but did not get any offers.

Thanks Dedas! I've got tentative offers for nearly all games except this one, actually. I've still got a few days to find a sub, and I won't set R'lyeh AI even if I run out of time -- there's no password on the god, so R'lyeh will at worst just stale until the Admin either sets it AI, or turns it over to a replacement.

R'lyeh has no treaties or even anything remotely resembling intelligible contact with other nations.

I like that.

If we can't find a sub maybe we could put the game on hold for a month or two? Not very fun of course but I rather have that than an AI.

I have a nibble! Currently in discussions with a potential sub ...

Sorry Jazzepi, I've delayed the turn for 24 hours because I'm away on a trip (with only a cellphone). I will be home soon an the game will kick off again. Sorry for the delay.

bump

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/uploads/604778-burkhard.jpg

btw, he has every resistance and regenerates 20 hp per second and has just killed 2 SCs in one battle.

Is he only that overpowered in Worthy heroes or is it also that way in cbm?

You need to get that things some boots! Awesome

Valerius

Burkhard is an inspiration to Ulm (and Ulm needs inspiration given how badly Marignon is beating us in any battle in which Burkhard is not involved).

But yeah, it's killing me that I don't have quickness on him. If anyone would like to sell Ulm boots of quickness please let me know.

I don't think Burkhard is a worthy heroes addition - I think this is how he is in the base game.

Dedas
May 9th, 2008, 02:31 PM
Yes he is, and it is very, very cool the way you use him! It's inspirational for us all I say.

I could sell you boots of quickness btw.

T'ien Ch'i has staled at least the last 5 turns. I know Dedas mentioned RL was busy. Should we look for a sub and get the admin password from llamabeast?

Who cares for Ermor while Burkhard Nachtzehrer is still alive http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Valerius
May 24th, 2008, 05:27 AM
Ulm is happy to report that Burkhard is alive and well and moving faster than ever thanks to his new boots of quickness.

On another note, are there any objections to me asking llamabeast to set T'ien Ch'i to AI? Unless of course Cor2 wants to take another shot at Ermor and take over T'ien Ch'i (who seems to be under attack by the Ashen Empire). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hi guys, sorry for just leaving the command of T'ien Ch'i to the wind but things just went chaos for me IRL.
I will set T'ien Ch'i to AI right away. Oh, and I was pretty doomed anyway with R'yleh AND Ermor crashing down on me at the same time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I hope you enjoy the game.

I asked llamabeast to set T'ien Ch'i to AI since Dedas didn't have a chance to and he mentioned that TC isn't in a bad position despite recent losses to Ermor.

Shall we look for a sub or turn TC AI?

I'd like to see him have a sub if we could find someone. I really dislike seeing people get a free ride on an entire nation, especially one that was in the lead in provinces.

Valerius
June 4th, 2008, 04:51 AM
Great! Thanks, Ossa. I'll PM you so we can get you set to receive turns from the llamaserver. Please check the first post in this thread to get the map. The only mod is Worthy Heroes 1.8.

It might be good if everyone PM'd Ossa to let him know the status of their relations with TC.
