View Full Version : Bug or manual wrong?

I cast ghost riders on a province where i had a scout. I told the scout (which was stealthed) to attack province.

When the turn hosted my scout attacked the pd before the ghost riders. On p. 71 of the manual it lists magic battles as 6, and battles caused by movement and other movement like break siege as 13 and 14.

I have done this tactic numerous times in the past, and can never recall the scout attacking before the ghost riders. Could this be a bug introduced in the most recent patch?

I know that scouts have always attacked the province they are in well before movement occurred.

Sounds like a bug to me.

Hmm... in my testing a while ago, units hidden in the province attacked during the
magic phase. Thus, whether they will attack before or after the ghost riders is a
matter of luck.

Sounds like there is a battles which require movement phase and a battles which do not or at least something acting like it

Same experience here, stealthed scouts attacking the province they were hiding in attack during the magic phase.

Break Siege requires no movement, and is specifically listed in the manual as occurring after the magic phase battles. So I do not see scouts attacking during the magic phase as thematically sound or consistent with the manual.

So you can actually ambush enemies ? Nice.

I do not think it is a bug, and frankly I like it. In the perfect world, you
could choose whether the stealthers attacks with the teleporters or with the
grunts. But I like to have the option to sneak in troops, and have them support
the teleporters... after all, they are already in place. If I want to attack
after the magic phase, I just attack from a different province...

So I guess, Xietor, the best way to make your tactic work is to have your scouts in the _adjacent_ province, and have them attack from there.

Yes, of course llama.

But I am just trying to determine if this was a deliberate change in the last patch, or a bug. I have done this numerous times in the past and the ghost riders ALWAYS went 1st. Now trying call of wild and ghost riders at same province was always pot luck.

I seem to remember that even if stealthed units attack coming from a different province, they still attack in the magic phase. I've done it before to specifically pick up provinces after being cleared by ghost riders, but it ended up as random which came first.

I could swear I've had stealthed units join in with regular troops for a battle. That really doesn't work?

Of course there is no reason to have them stealthed if they are coming in to take a province. even if they are a stealth unit.

So if you move a scout to take a province that should NEVER occur during the magic battle stage.

It was always this way i think. They are suppose to join call of the wild and the such.
The trick is to get some stealthers like woodsmen and reinforce them with summons.
Llamabeast said the procedure from now on.
The other trick is to cast ghost riders and then call of the winds, wild or the such.
Also ghost riders can attack along with horrors and the phantasmal attack (anonymous), and the rest that are not anonymous can join together.
edit: I wonder what happens if you cast ghost riders in the same province that other player has cast ghost riders too. Probably they join.

As far as I know spells are random and IDs do not count.

The reason to have them stealthed when coming in to take a
province is that they're coming from an enemy province.

Though I wonder if you can make this work with stealthy troops hunting down raiders. If you attack with stealthy troops can you get them before they move away?

Last time I attcacked province A with a scout from province B. And enemy army from B was attacking A. Both my scout and enemy army made a move, crossing each other.

Edited out that part, zeldor, you are right, spells are random in order

They join. All attacks to the province occur in the same battle, as long as
they are tagged as 'Special Monsters'. The funny part is that only one of
the players who cast "Ghost Riders"/"Phantasmal attack"/etc. gets the replay.
