View Full Version : Drain Life - Does it have a MR check?

I don't get it, I blasted one guy in a single battle round with 5 life drains, only took him down liike 10hp when 5 life drains is SUPPOSED to do over 70 damage. For the rest of the battle, life drain didn't do crap. The enemy did have high MR though.

One major flaw in the Ai is to life drain different targets, instead of focusing on one and killing it off. Be nice if this was fixed.

My guess is if you check the drain life was spread around, and did not hit the same target each time. If the unit is not lifeless or had luck, the target took drain life damage. It cannot be resisted.

Other exception, damage went to blood slaves. Or the unit was getting healed from some source. But drain life is not resistible.

No, there is no MR check. I just tried with a four mage firing squad against
a 24 hp unit with MR 30.

Without luck on the target:
10, 5, 9+ hps of damage from the first three casts.

-------------------------------

With luck on the target:
10, 11, 0, 0, 0, 3+
10, 0, 7, 0, 0, 0, 7+

-------------------------------

And there is something interesting I noticed. When the luck stopped the damage,
the mages received fatigue (of course) but instead of the expected 15, 16, and
16 (because of encumberance), they only got 8, 9, and 9. For some reason,
instead of costing 10, the drain life cost them only 3 fatigue. And these are
Death 3 mages with Skull staffs. Anyone got an explanation?

Ah, yep, luck was the culprit then.

Well the manual says that you get half the drain damage back as HP, and twice the drain damage back as fatigue. If this is the case though, you should get 20 fatigue back for doing 10 damage. Maybe someone else can shed more light on this...

Of course, you must understand Argi, that your drain life was ineffective against my Jarls, because of their Godlike powers.
