I'm LA R'lyeh vs a very strong LA Ermor.
I'm smashing on one of his big armies (800+).
I have prepared a communion with 12 slaves and the Stargazer with Astral 5 to cast Solar Brillance.
I've read it causes blindness and I presume this means the permanent affliction. I'm not worried blinding the mad chaff, but I'm very worried blinding my 25 starspawn and my illithid artillery.
Are blind mages able to cast ranged spells? And are able blinf illithid to fire the mind burning weapon ... (I fear not) ?
Some hints?

They are able to fire, but it'll be insanely bad accuracy. Precision 100 spells will still hit though, which is think Mind Burn is?

The main thing is that your about 20 MR starspawns will almost never be hit by Solar Brilliance (MR negates easily which means penalty -4). And if you cast Antimagic on them, you shouldn't worry about it at all.

Yes, mindblast attacks are prec-100 attacks and ignore blindness, darkness or the like -- so even if it's a long battle and you get some blinding, it's not going to hamper their offense.

The same goes for some astral battle magic. Very nice. Have to be careful about the non-prec-100 spells, however -- Gifts from Heaven, for instance, might become a bit dangerous. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
