Sign up here for a 10-15 player MA game

I'm thinking
17 prov/player
15 Hof
graphs on
5 strenght indies
24h / turn, later adjusted to 48, extensions when needed (preferably no longer extentions than 24 hour though)
VP win conditions: VP in each capitol, 50% needed to win

I'll be needing a nice map and if anyone has something somewhere I'd be gratefull for that too.

Once we have a decent number of pplz we'll get llama to set it up and then I'll just start being the moderator and we'll have us some fun.

The cheapest tricks that are not allowed in other games are not allowed here either. (think using target commanders option except for bogus and his gang etc.)

update 6-5

I think we are nearly full
Aezeal - Pythium
Excecutor - Ermor
Evildesirez - Eriu
Karlem -Ryleh
Aethyr -Tien Chi
LDiCesare - Arcocephale
Kuritza - Marignon
Bananadine Shinuyama
sumlost - mictlan
Griefan - bandarlog
Johnarryn - atlantis
Cicidine - C'tis
Ossa - ?
Zenzei - ?
Meister Miagi - Ulm

If the last 3 can give (another) choice then we'll keep it at that unless some one begs me to be in then maybe I'll let a 15th player in.

I still need a map though I think the adjusted parganos (?) map often used on llama is a bit to small for this (especially since I want a bit more than 15 prov/player to have a bit more time before pplz meet/ have to kill)

If anyone can help me with a map I'd be gratefull, I'll be asking around myself too.

Are there anymods we should use.
- I know there is a mod which kills a bug in MY hydra's so we'll use that one at least http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
For the rest I don't really think much is needed though but it's open for negotiation if it's not to radical.

I would like to start ASAP but certainly not this week (as per request and just because it's not doable) probably late next week.

I need to talk to llama what we do about pretenders etc and I need a map.
The first thing should be done easily so everyone that knows his/her nation can start creating a pretender already.
The map might be the most important factor here though so PLZ look for a nice map (with about 26-30 water provinces for our 2 nations (they don't need 17/player they should move on land anyway http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif)

The needed mods are now attached to this post

Well, as I told you I'm in http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Ryleh for me please.

A random map can be nice, no need to setup nothing incredible, but using RAN_DOM for seting up minimin number of neighbours and distance between capitols is quite interesting:

* 4 land neighbours for land based nations, and 4 sea neighbours for sea based
* 3-4 provinces between capitols

This way turn 0 luck is reduced.

We have to wait until all players are in and then we will have 3-4 days to send the pretenders.

Normally Llamaserver games are 48h first turn (to solve problems) and then 24h quickhost untill everybody thinks that we should change them to 48h (around turn 20-30 normally) and laaaaater on 72h.

Cicadian, sorry I didn't mention it.. but I wanna be pythium myself.. I wanted to be them in the megagame but i was to late.. so I decided to create this to play pythium.

You are welcome to play another nation though.

I'm thinking 24h first turns later 48.. the switch between 24-48 will depend on how we are doing.. I'd rather not see it happen to fast.

I won't do a 30 hour quickhost but I'm always willing to do some extensions if needed.

Aezeal: Is this game full? If it isn't, I can play. I don't which of the remaining nations I would like to have but I'll take a look at them.

VP meaning provinces that provide points? I'm playing a game with one province that everybody fights over, and I'm pretty tired of it... but presumably there are various ways to do it, other than that.

I would totally play to the end in a straight battle without VP. I mean if I survived that long. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

johnarryn
May 6th, 2008, 01:21 PM
Yeah, im not so huge on the VP's, though I suppose we can use em if alot of other people like em.

Zenzei
May 6th, 2008, 01:38 PM
Yes, by VP I meant Victory Points of which you need to control a certain amount in order to win the game.
I have played in games which had multiple VPs on the map and I can say from my experience that VP games are more interesting than normal ones because there's a tangible objective for the game.

If Aezeal decides to go with VPs, I recommend the following setup regarding the amount of VPs:
1) 2x the number of players. Randomly assigned on the map and need to control ~40% of the VPs in order to win.

or

2) One VP in each capital and none in the regular provinces. 40% of the VPs required for the win.

Bananadine: I can certainly see several reasons for a player getting frustrated in game that has only one VP on the map but those reasons are indeed due to game settings rather than VPs in general as a victory condition.

sum1lost
May 6th, 2008, 02:53 PM
Id rather not play VPs, if its alright. We can, but it skews gameplay a bit.

I think option number 2 is much better, there will be more wars this way for sure, have you decided on a map, or are we using a random map?
Personally I'd prefer a random map, but as long as you set up a reasonable number of provinces between capitols, and are we using any particular mod?

Zenzei
May 6th, 2008, 03:26 PM
sum1lost: In what way do you feel VPs skew the game?

Maybe we should have a general vote regarding the victory condition or lack of it. I vote yes for VPs, if it wasn't clear already. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

johnarryn
May 6th, 2008, 04:23 PM
I also feel as though 40% VP's is a bit low... you can essentially have a couple big players who never even have to fight before one of them wins. Make it like 55% or something.

Aezeal
May 6th, 2008, 05:31 PM
Zenzei and Miagi are in, but we should indeed play for VP, but in capitols, I'll go for exactly half of capitols the map. So you need either to be stronger than the rest without needing to take the last single prov if a bastard won't surrender. And if there end up 2 player having nearly half then a long battle will be avoided by just out maneuvering the opponent

Aezeal
May 6th, 2008, 05:33 PM
ow and no more water nation though (as if anyone would want too) since i need to get a set number of provinces for the map.

Karlem
May 6th, 2008, 06:08 PM
I think that if you set capitols VP you can see them in the map... So perhaps it's not a very good idea... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Why not just one random VP for each player, and owning 55% means winning?

BTW I vote for Vps too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Aezeal
May 6th, 2008, 06:12 PM
capitols will be known soon enough

LDiCesare
May 6th, 2008, 06:49 PM
Capitals known on first turn means the possibility of a straight rush towards nearest neighbour. Not knowing them for sure can delay a rush by 2 or 3 turns, which makes a huge difference.
Having one VP/player with just more half + 1 needed to win would be fine for me.

Zenzei
May 6th, 2008, 09:59 PM
I'll take Caelum as my nation.

Karlem
May 7th, 2008, 06:29 AM
I agree with LDiCesare, it makes rush much more viable and faster. I prefer to discover the capitols through scouts rather than a crown in the map.

For example having a stealthy flying pretender and first turn dominion kill someone without an awake pretender...

What about Pasha's Alexander map? It has slightly more seas than you are looking for (43), but some of these are "land locked" so it might work. It would be a bit cramped at 17 players, but should work OK with 15.

My second suggestion would be Glory of the Gods (multiplayer).

Aezeal
May 8th, 2008, 07:36 AM

worthy heroes is OK with me

Karlem
May 8th, 2008, 07:57 AM
Worthy heroes is ok for me too.

The provinces minimum does not work (as far as I know) with premade maps.

The random 30 VPs are done at game creation. So you just say to Llama the number of VPs and the limit to win (30 and 18 respectively for 55%).

So then we have everything ready, just waiting for two people to select their country and then upload pretenders on llamaserver, isn't it?

Aezeal

Does this only include bugs (like the mists of deception exploit), or also controversial things that were nonetheless proclaimed WAD (working as designed), like archer decoys, schorched earth, "wills", commander trading, and copying bogus's orders?

Only MoD tricks and Bogus' orders copying warrant ban in my opinion.

Managing illegal movements should be banned too, along with Mists and copying Bogus orders.

johnarryn
May 13th, 2008, 04:40 PM
I agree with LDiCesare.... illegal movement, bogus orders, shouldn't be allowed... but I cannot see how, say, archer decoys should not be allowed, or scorched earth tactics. These all seem like suitable and sometimes appropriate strategies, as opposed to some sort of exploit in the game that you know how to manipulate. Another example of such an exploit would be filling your opponents treasury with slave collars - as a "strategy," presenting your opponent with multiple gifts makes no sense, and thus it is merely an exploit.

Zenzei
May 13th, 2008, 04:46 PM
What is this movement exploit? I've heard about it before but I don't know what it actually is but it indeed sounds like something that shouldn't be allowed.

Actually, Mictlan only sprouts castles fast because he got very, very lucky for someone with a misfortune scale.

Aezeal

it would've been easier if you'd just asked me to postpone a few hours while you solved your problem...

anyway.. I think a stale turn sucks this early.. and since you say there was a problem I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. The other 2 where just late and should've asked for a delay, that takes about 2 min time and can be done from any computer.. but whatever.

How to solve this.. I'll PM llama I guess.. if it can be solved quickly it will be done if it takes more than 24 hours I'm not happy. If it means that everyone gotta retake their turn etc etc it won't happen if more than 5 object though.

The Land of Mictlan is growing steadily more and more prosperous, as are our neighbors, in this bountiful peace.

However, we do observe that many of the other nations are being mamzers and going to war! Lawgiver Forfend!

So, who is fightin'?

From the past experience w/Llamaserver, the update will happen automatically.

Since the patch just came out, players will have the option of not updating to 3.17 for this turn (I just sent my turn in w/o the patch). However, we will be required to update to 3.17 prior to sending in any subsequent turns.

Ah, no doubt this is great comfort to the sidhe, who now surely realize that you are not besieging their fortress, but merely searching for the trolls who killed Raterik!

If the addled governors of Ulm would search for trolls amongst the sidhe of Eriu and the goblins of Shinuyama, then who is next? The monkeys, perhaps?

meister_miagi
June 24th, 2008, 01:41 PM
Ulm has no real quarrel with the sidhe. This is merely a way for us to sourround the trolls so they may not escape. It is too bad for the sidhe that they take trolls as their friends.

We also remember sending the sidhe a great gift: an ancient pearl of the deep seas, recovered by the great Boognish Wyrm-Lord of Ulm himself. This was a sign of friendship and was ignored by the arrogant sidhe.

It is no doubt the Raterik-slayers where trolls in the service of Shinuyama. They were big, green, ugly creatures whose pungent smell drove tears to Rateriks eyes and dazed his mind. Every storyteller in Ulm knows this.

He is accompanied by an entourage of loyal ghostly followers and rides a ghostly steed.

I'm already 6 or 7 games I think - I lose count when I can't rely on turns being there at any given time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif And I thought that's what I was doing here - playing against other people. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Pythium is almost utterly annihilated at this point. I don't want to ask for AI, since I am their neighbor, and we've been peaceful, but it seems like there should be some sort of solution.

Anyways, I'd just like things to only take as long as they have to, is that wrong? If you aren't getting your turn in during the first 24h after hosting, turning on quickhost won't keep you from having the second day to do what you need to do. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif And if you're the last person to go, it'll host immediately, so if you have time you can do 2 turns at once. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

LDiCesare

On games hosted on Llamaserver the general rule is that if a player is going to be away and cannot find a sub he/she should set the nation to AI before sending in the last turn. If this is not done, then the only one who can set the nation to AI is Llamabeast. My understanding is that its doable, but it's a pain and he's asked players to avoid this if at all possible.

That said, we shouldn't have two more weeks of stale turns from Pythium. Since I've just finished my turn and really don't want to redo it, I propose that we let this turn host (it is set to quick host BTW), and then PM Llama and request that he set Pythium to AI. Does anyone disagree?

jimkehn
June 28th, 2008, 04:15 PM

48-hour quickhost will sometimes force people to do two turns on two consecutive days, since the hosting time automatically creeps back unless somebody somehow exactly hits the deadline every turn. Something like 54-hour quickhost would be a more reasonable way to ensure that everybody can do a turn every other day if they want.

I'm just saying that to say it though, I don't object to quickhost in this game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

JimMorrison
June 29th, 2008, 02:51 AM
Sure, 54 hour quickhost, hell, 60 hour quickhost would be fine by me, I'm reasonably sure that in most cases it will move along at a better rate - while still giving people on more limited gaming time the chance to not be rushed with their turn. <3

R'lyeh is trading Earth gems!

Death or Astral are preferred, though we will take Water or Nature in trade as well. We have over 100 E gems for trade, so PM with your generous offers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Jotunheim has deceived his ally, C'Tis. While C'tis was led to believe that his ally Ermor was almost dead, and that C'tis needed to divide the spoils, Ermor was far from dead. Therefore, a state of war exists between the nations of C'Tis and Jotunheim.

Thats a truly nice way of making diplomacy - once you see you neighbour on the loosing side you grab his provinces and now you claim you were deceived... tstststs.

But come on, we have no fear of little green animals who smell like fish.

July 4th, 2008, 10:46 AM
Well...maybe....just maybe....that was planned from the beginning. To lure Jotunheim into Ermor's clutches while I denied you access to Ermor's other provinces, all the while using the old hammer and anvil approach!!!

Arco is turning AI now. I won't be able to play my turns for the next weeks and the situation is too bad to give the nation to a sub.

Lol I guess pythium might be missing yes.. like the last 3 weeks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

hmm I guess I won't even bother to look where Pythium is now, by the sounds of it it's not worth downloading the turn.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

My neighbours must have had a great advantage by not making me AI though..

As beneficial as our relationship was - to both of us, R'lyeh must publicly decline your misguided offer.

In your absence the climate of the game has changed considerably, and we have had to make new friends to compensate. Betraying their trust would not only be in bad taste, but would be a very poor strategic move, for more reasons than I care to list here.

According the the graphs here, you have maybe 3 provinces left? I'm not sure why you would feel the need to try to manipulate the situation when you have so little to possibly gain from doing so.

It would have seemed to me that you might offer to send me some sort of reward for not taking advantage of your complete absence starting from the day that you left the game unattended. I was a loyal ally, which is why most of your lands belong to those little green men, rather than to my people. Of course, my public redress of your offer will probably be met with cynical spite concerning this matter, but I only say that because were I you at this juncture, I not only would not try to cause chaos for no gain, but I would gracefully bestow my wealth on those who deserved and would make good use of such things - and then set myself to AI and get into a new game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

ehm no the hammer goes somewhere as aid to a nation that has either helped me (none come to mind if you don't do it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif) or to someone who hasn't had the chance to help me since he was not in the neighbourhood http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif ...

pplz attacking me don't get it since they had 10 turns of advantage of me being out and pplz near me don't get it if they don't help me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Till I join a new game I might play a few turns untill I get bored http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

There is also a golem from Ulm who is borrowing some land from you. We'd better find out what it thinks about this.

Say, people, here's an interesting note: Summon Earthpower, when used by a mute mage, contributes to the mage's pre-muting magic skill--meaning that his current magic skill may not change. Shinuyama has learned this at significant cost!

Bananadine
July 26th, 2008, 01:29 PM
Anyway in exchange for one fortress, Shinuyama will be glad to sign a pact with the remnants of Pythium, in order that the remaining hydras may live out their remaining short lives in the wilds of T'ien Ch'i.

Bananadine
July 26th, 2008, 01:31 PM
(The fortress is to be chosen by Shinuyama, incidentally. Hmm, you seem to have only one....)

Aezeal

JimMorrison
July 26th, 2008, 04:19 PM
R'lyeh will attack neither Shinuyama or Pythium, preferring to honor the agreements made to both.

However our ends and our means are indiscernible to most land dwellers. We will not explain our directions, or answer to demands - the currents take us where they will, and we will attack the non-treatied where we see fit, without second thought or obscure considerations.

Aezeal
July 26th, 2008, 08:43 PM
ehm yes, but I will attack that province where your army is now since my army is needed in my capitol, which is behind it. Since I you have been a trusted ally I give you this information to do with it what you want but this is my capitol and I need to defend it. I hope you see my point.
