Have these two screenshots been taken at the same time? The second one
shows no weapon but the fist, but the first one does not show the -1
penalty to defense that the fist brings.
So I am thinking that Illearth is using some special weapon - one without
a picture, one that sets the defense to zero... or that he is under a
specific condition (paralyze?)

Paralyze would drop his attack too I believe...but I think maybe tangle vines is just defense?

on SC's, isn't defense basically a non-factor? for every attack in a turn their defence is dropped by some amount. For any 'SCish' unit then, defense is basically unimportant. Right?

Mostly, no. First of all, SC duels happen all the time. Not because they are a
good idea, but because it is so much easier to just teleport a SC on top of
another (or send one to wait for an attack that you think is coming) In these
duels, defense matters.
Second, SCs often have other defenses - etherealness, luck, mistform, mirror
image, awe, etc... and some of them negate the defense drop when they intercept
an attack. The higher your defense, the longer mirror image and mistform last.
The more often awe, ethereal and luck trigger, the less often your defense drops.
Third, roll often enough, and the unwashed flagellant rolls a 50 to kill the poor
archdemon with protection 25. Well, high defense reduces the attacker's chances
to roll for damage.
That said, taking down a SC defense is quite simple. One way is to use a flier
to take the SC defense down 30-40 points (using for example two swords of
swiftness, a horned helmet, a jade armour, the chi boots, a stone bird, and a
trident.) Then, the real damage dealer comes, and is pretty much sure to hit.
So, yes, defense is easy to take down, but so is most everything else. And
when all is said and done, Bane Fire, Life for a Life, and the Gifts from Heaven
are hard to ignore. Everything has a counter.
*MUST FIGHT URGE TO MENTION MIST OF DECEPTION* Oh, damn, too late.

The first screen shows a prophet bonus but the second has no priest levels.
Would you explain this Argitoth?

But isn't that a Prophet symbol on the second screen?
I'm very confused.

Edit: Never mind, since I publicly mentioned it, I decided to test it, and it seems shields add Parry to the listed Defense rating. I think. ; )

1) When your defence decreases due to being hit multiple times in one round, and you check the properties of the hit unit, how is the loss of defense displayed? Could that have caused it?
2) Thejeff, what Ylvali is saying that in spite of this unit being a prophet (prophet icon + blessed status), it does not have any level in Holy magic, which a prophet should have at least 3.
This is an interesting point that Ylvali raises.

True... the prophet icon appears on IllEarth yet no priest levels. This must be the prophet on a royal, kill the royal, prophet something else and then resummon the royal scenario you mentioned. Looks like killing and resummoning a prophetized royal comes with punishment.
As Cartman would say, "You shouldn't' a done that, he's just a boy... poor little feller"

1) As far as I know, the drop in defense from multiple hits isn't displayed anywhere. It's treated as a defense penalty on subsequent hits, rather than a change to the base defense.
2) I was pointing out the prophet icon, since Ylvali only commented on the prophet bonus on the first screen.

lol, ok, just to continue this useless discussion, let me say this is not an in-battle screenshot.
I seem to be coming down with the dominion fever, getting fed up with its loose ends.

Is this a question or a riddle?
Because if it's a genuine question you aren't giving us enough information.

If he is indeed a resummoned dead prophet he might have some kind of residual effect remaining from his death (perhaps a tangle vine). Since he died and did not leave battle it might be that the affliction wasn't properly removed. If this is the case a simple battle would resolve the problem.

this is confirmed

That a simple battle would alleviate this affliction, I suppose.

Nah, he's fun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
You just have to poke him in the ribs from time to time. If he chuckles all is good http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Lately, I've been getting really pissed off at Dominions, that's all.
