Hi,
I have a problem here setting a unit's fire range. I tried to set the range using the "Y" hotkey then select the max fire range (either using the mouse or the numpad) to 4 hexes (that is 200 meters). But when it is the enemy's turn, my unit opfires an enemy unit that is 350 meters away (out of the max setting of 200 m). What causes this? Is this feature only in the CD version?
My unit is in dug in position, morale good, and short of ammunition.
Thanks b4 4 the help.

I would guess (because your unit is short of ammo) that they have been spotted by the enemy. Therefore the enemy is shooting at your guys. When a unit takes fire they will usually return fire regardless of the 'max range'.

Max range is more useful for unspotted units that want to ambush or wait until the enemy is closer before opening fire.

If you want to preserve ammo during your opponents turn. You could turn off some or all of your weapons, or perhaps just the longer range weapons. eg. Turn off the rifles but leave the SMG turned on.

I'll bet that unit was shot at by the enemy?. If so, the range is set to the firing range of the enemy shooter + 1 hex, thus allowing your unit to return fire (if possible), rather than stand helplessly still and be hosed down with no reply.
