View Full Version : Heroes?

Is there a way to tell which heroes are possible based on which scales?
I ask because I've played a number of games with Pythium on different scales and I've always gotten Pontifex serpentus within the first 10 turns or so.
Except the latest long game I am playing where I set the magic scales to magic 1 instead of drain 1 and took turmoil off of 3 and put it on 2. Now I am up past turn 90 and still havent seen the guy. I've gotten the serpent riding hero once and the incredibly poor melee hero more than 6 times.. but no pontifex http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
I realize that it is all random and one game doesn't prove any trend.. but for my own personal edification is there any way to know what heroes are possible for nations based on which scales are picked?

Pretty sure it's all dependent on Luck scales. Order-Turmoil might also play a part.

Conventional wisdom is that what hero arrives is completely random. No scale effects.
The chance of a hero is dependent on luck.

The jeff is correct... only luck determines an increase/decreased chance of appearance. The other scales do nothing for heroes.

Yep, and IIRC the base chance is 3% per turn, -1 per tick of misfortune, +1 per tick of luck.
So misfortune 3 means no heroes, and misfortune 2 means you only have a 1% chance per turn to get a hero.

Agrajag how do you know such a thing? Where can one find such detailed information about some game features?

It is common knowledge among veterans, because such things have been discussed on the forum already in the time of Dom2 with KO explaining that. It is very often the case that we do not remember if such things were in the manual or posted online.

I try to always play with full luck scales.. but I've noticed that the only time I ever get the random blood caster for pythium is when magic is at 3, otherwise I've never seen the guy.
I'll keep on playing and seeing what happens but from what I've seen so far either something is effecting the heroes that appear or the random generation is a very strange flavor of random..

I have a feeling, from all of the SP that I've played, that there is a weighting system to the heroes. Such that you have the base 0-6% chance to recieve a hero in any given turn, but then you do another roll against your list of available heroes, and some will be much more common than others.
Anyway, I know about small sample streaks and trends in RNGs, but it still seems this may be the case. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Pffft. Need I remind you how much I suck at actually playing the game? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Though yeah, that is the reason I know such wonderous things.

Join the club. I have all of one MP game under my belt and got my backside kicked well and good, though the final defeat should host right about tomorrow morning... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
