I have a very specific problem with Geforce 8800GT. When starting Dominions3, within 20 seconds, the display turns black. Music continues to play, but the screen is black and keyboard is unresponsive.

Happens just in Dominions 3 and Suffering - Ties that bind. No other games I have exhibit similar problems, including Crysis, Assassins Creed, benchmarks, etc...

And yes, I have latest DirectX, driver and everything. The problems occurs both in Fedora 9 Linux and WinXP, so it's not installation specific. I suspect that it's a problem with HW or Nvidia driver. Strange is, it does NOT occur in Windows Vista.

I am interested if someone has the same GFX - do you experience the same problems?

I have a Nvidia 8600GT OC ... and no problems within Windows2000 or WindowsXP-64bit.

You can try dropping graphic card settings.

Sounds like a driver problem as you said it works in other games. Something is called that isn't working I would guess. Try to reinstall the driver using this software. Be sure to follow the instructions. Uninstall -> Clean -> reboot -> reinstall.

If that doesn't work try a different older driver just to make sure it is the driver and not the card. Be sure to reinstall the new one though as you wouldn't want to run new games such as Crysis with old drivers.

For anyone having the same problems, I have find a workaround. In the Troubleshooting tab of Display Properties, disable the option "Write combining". After a necessary reboot, the game no longer crashes.
