View Full Version : Guide Dom3 DB v3.17

Looks like Dom3 DB v3.15 has suffered a rather tragic fate. I came home from work to find it stabbed and bludgeoned and lying unconscious and dying in the Dom3/doc folder, bleeding units stats, display formulas, glossary entries and various other entries all over the other files residing there. What a mess.

The culprit wasn't too hard to find, though, as it was sitting right there in the middle of it all with a very satisfied, if not downright smug look on its face. So now that the folder has been cleaned up, the old corpse reanimated and sent off to the DB graveyard, there is a new Pretender to the throne of DB realm: The Dominions 3 Database v3.17

All hail the new Lord and Master!

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

**********

Seriously, the little debacle a couple of weeks back actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the community, though it certainly did not look like it at the time. With the DB removed from public distribution for a while, I had a chance to reevaluate several things and it shows.

The new Dom3 DB is substantially different from the old one. Not in content, all the old stats are there along with the other stuff. The look is nowhere near the old one, though. It should also be much easier to reference.

CHANGES
BaseU table completely rearranged and formatting unified, extra columns eliminated. The reorganization will also serve future needs for other things.
AllUnits display page completely rearranged to match BaseU table
Grouping of abilities in both pages is now categorical, more or less in line with the groupings in Dom3 UORMM v3.17 (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=610780) so that it is easier to form a coherent picture of what kinds of things the creatures can do in a specific category
New columns for Shattered Soul, Corrupt Commander and a couple of other things
All formulas updated to reflect new organization, several formulas tweaked. Old age information in Dom3 DB v3.15 is NOT reliable due to formula not having been updated. Fear formula does not take into account that D5 gives any unit fear, too complicated. Fireshield mechanics are less straightforward than has been apparent, so that column is to be taken with salt. See the Credits/Notes page.
Army List page thoroughly revamped for easier readability and referencing, including nation numbers and lists for the new nations.
New page: Flysprites, courtesy of Saulot
Magic Masks page has all numeric masks for all possible combinations of magic except for Holy, which cannot be used in custom magic masks. If holy is fixed, new masks will be added later. Currently you can get the numbers by adding the base holy number to an existing mask.
New units for the new nations and summons, obviously
Statfixes for some missing things and for the low level priest morale and MR stats for all eras. There may be some overlooked errors on that score, but most have been caught.
Page removed: Pretenders. Old, outdated, pain in the *** to maintain and just wouldn't cooperate without a massive hassle, so I axed it. PretenderSummary is still there.
That should be about the size of it. The new DB will only be available from the attachment in this thread. It will no longer be uploaded to the webspace where it used to be. The attachment contains the full DB file in Open Office format as well as static versions (i.e. no formulas, just numeric/text data) in both Open Office and Microsoft Office format.

If you find any errors or have other feedback, please let me know in this thread.

I feel it's my duty to make the first reply here and thank Edi for all the work he has done. Good job Edi, when will you finish DB 4.18? (a joke!!)

Thank you Edi. I use your database and modding guide all the time and I cannot imagine modding without these assets.

For the rest of the community, I spend what seems about half my life using Excel. Just to enter the data in the Dom3 data base is a herculean task, my estimate is about 500-800 (unpaid) man-hours. Consider that effort before you whine about anything.

Great! I had to use it as soon as it finished downloading as well.
I really like the static versions. I haven't really used anything else since I've had them, they're so much faster.

As I said in a different thread, Firebird (1946) in your database doesn't have any special abilities concerning good luck, while Kristoffer says it's supposed to have something. It's either a minor bug or a minor fault in the database, but I'm afraid it's up to you to put things right.

Thanks, everyone! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Endo, that's probably data error, as that was done in a bit of hurry and the luck boost ability is not obvious if it's there. I do not generally pay too much attention to descriptions, I just enter the visible data, so that kind of things are easy to miss.

I've been known to do that. Sometimes. Having a tech support job means a lot of opportunities for being online, which is why I can be visible on the forums for nearly 12 hours at a stretch.

Hmm, that'd be right around the time you and the other good folks here build me that time machine I can use to go froward, steal a copy of Dom4 and come back with it and then spend a few months working on it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I quickly scanned the new units. There is a Grigori commander, unit #2062 with 18 paths. WOW. The previous high was the Neifelheim crone hero with 14 paths.

Mmmh ...

Just a VERY MINOR problem.

I have a problem with the *.xls file. I have an error message saying that (I translate from French, so it maybe another message in English or other language) "File error: risk of data loss".
But the file opens and SEEMS correct.

Perhaps it is a version problem, because when I close the file, I have this message: "Do you want save the modifications done? MS Excel recalculate the formulas at the opening of files which the last save has been done under an older version of MS Excel". I'm under MS Excel 2003 (11.8211.8202) SP3, part of MS Office Professional Edition.

Everything works fine under OpenOffice, so not a serious problem, but I report that.

QXel

P.S.: everyone can download the fabulous Portable OpenOffice exe for Windows at this link (http://www.openofficeportable.org/?ooop/telechargement) in French, or this one (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=133951) for English.
Free, USB-friendly, no installation. There is a indentical project for The Gimp here (http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable) or here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/portablegimp).

The Excel problem is not a problem, because the static version does not contain any formulas at all. It just complains that the version is different and wants to save to the newest Excel version. If you do that once, it disappears.

sansanjuan, I know that about the EDI acronym, though I was using the nickname long before I learned about it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Oh, and the Better Independents Mod v2.0 is available (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=614492), so I might as well advertise that here too.

Here's a quote from Wick from the Machaka thread:

Edi, here's a clump of DB fixes (this is easy if you sort by the assassin column first):
443 Star Child is listed as Stealth 5, is actually 15.
585 Guild Master is listed as Stealth 5, is actually 25.
629 Stalker is listed as Stealth 20, is actually 40.
877 Bane Spider is listed as Stealth 5, is actually 10.
1436 Mujina is listed as Stealth 10, is actually 30.
1558 Tlahuelpuchi is listed as Stealth 0, is actually 15.
1744 Samanishada is listed as Stealth 10, is actually 20.
1879 Serpent Assassin is listed as Stealth 5, is actually 20.

Thanks for the listing. I thought I had fixed some of those, but it is possible some more of them were changed around or that I missed something. The correct values will appear in the next version of the DB unless there are a lot of other things to fix, in which case there may be an errata update for 3.17.

* 580 Sea King gems(1W)
* 810 Lord of Hell gems(2B)
* check Arch Devil (Furcas) if has gems(1F)

That so far from other threads.

I've fixed the stealth stuff and the gem indicators into the DB, but the attachment is not updated. There is also a rather embarrassing series of 100 indicators for randoms on units that have no magic, courtesy of a screwup of mine when editing formatting. That will also be fixed after my vacation.

The weapon Dwarven Hammers #115 should probably note the 25% forge bonus in the specials column.

Great work, I'll try to make it better by, er, picking holes in it. Thanks for adding the gem producing summons notes.

Endoperez

In the database, the weapons and the armors aren't the magic items.

Most items and weapon/armor have similar names, but e.g. Jade Armor is something like Jade Hauberk, etc. Jade Armor is a magical item that takes body slot, gives Quickness and changes the unit's armor into Jade Hauberk. Dwarven Hammer (item) grants forge bonus 25 and changes the unit's weapon into Dwarven Hammer (weapon).

The report itself was fine. It had the correct IDs and all that. It just wouldn't go to the weapons' data.

Is there a listing in the DB of the mercs?

Edi
June 24th, 2008, 01:08 PM
No, there is no list of mercenaries. For that, you need to go look at Sunray's listings, because that's afaik the only place where mercs are included. His site is here. (http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2/)

See the point Endoperez made above. The WEAPON does NOT provide the bonus. The ITEM, #75 Gate Cleaver, in the BaseI table, does, and in there it is listed correctly.

Weapons are in the BaseW and Weapons tables. Armor is in the BaseA and Armor tables. Items are in the BaseI table and nowhere else because I never got around to doing a display page for items. Items may provide a unit with a weapon, with increases in stats and any number of other things, but the armor and weapons listen in the weapon and armor tables DO NOT.

Storm General, Storm Guard and Ghoul Baron fixed for next iteration. It seems some heroes have had more buffs, as some of the Ghoul Baron's stats had been significantly increased (e.g. +3 MR). It might be productive to take another look at all the heroes.

Anything on the same row as resistances, Luck, flight, terrain survivals etc etc comes from the item, not from the weapon. I can't think of any exceptions for that ATM.

Thanks for this very useful reference tool, Edi!

Very minor error that I stumbled upon more or less by accident:

You have listed Earth Boots as Construction 2.

Spenta of waters has healing 100, not 20.
Last parameter of the second VLOOKUP in CH column(random magic 4 - mask4) is 72(73 is the correct one), so the 4th random pick can't be calcaulated correctly. Anyway, it only affect mystic & Huli jing:-)

Thanks, zzcat. :) That sort of stuff is easy to miss. I expect to be able to post the 3.20 version soon enough, I'll fix it there.

The 3.17 also has a completely screwed up defense formula (all column references wrong), but most others are okay.

If you capable of entering 8 megagillion numbers in 3 skillion columns without an error you would also be able to take your next vacation in Southern Europe by walking across the Baltic, in August:)

You have to have close to a thousand hours invested in compiling the data base. Don't know how you managed it. I know I would still be on weapons.

I greatly appreciate your effort.
