What unit is your favorite to mass produce?
In late game I like mass producing Tarrasquense, then giving them Gift of Reason.
In second place is the wraight lord. Equip him good, empower a little and he is one immortal killing machine.

At the moment it's Zamzummites. The best non-cap-only battlemages I have ever seen. (Well, Druids might be on the same level, and Ktonian Necromancers are quite close.)

Bakemono Sorcerer is a splendid mage

I've been tempted by Bakemonos in the past--they look about as good as Ktonian Necromancers. No Astral for communions but acid rain potential. I think they have worse Precision than Zamzummites, though. Anyway, I should try them out sometime.

I'm going to have to go with the Ambibate Warriors of Marverni. I just love the mental image of a huge force of Celt-ish warriors assembling in a large horde, then charging, especially the barechested ones.

We are discussing favorite, and not best? Then for favorite, Sacred Hydras. They are like lawnmowers.

Ktonians are cap-only. Bakemono Sorcerers are not though, and they are totally *****en; with the right spells, they can be out-of-the-box thugs. If there was a way to remove their old-age, they'd be top-notch.
EDIT: I just noticed, someone else already noted this, in response to the same post none-the-less. that's what I get for posting before reading the entire thread.

These guys are hands-down the scariest recruitable unit. en masse, they can be a match for SCs. A single legion (about 20) of them can massacre armies of hundreds, even big powerful blessed armies of hundreds. The only way I've found to kill something like that is by exploiting the auto-rout or killing their leaders. Make sure they have no where to run to either (auto-kill), because any victory will by Pyrrhic, and you don't want to fite that again. At least that's been my experience with them.
They single-handedly make any nation who has access to them a powerhouse.

Although they are cap only and have their limitations, the the Warriors of the Five Elements are my favorite.

Actually both Shinuyama and LA Agartha have everything recruited everywhere so Ktonians are not cap-only.

My favorite are vampires...
They can spawn other vampires, are immortal, fly, and get 3 blood and 3 death to access some of the best death anti-SC spell in the game : disintegrate and touch of death.

i just double checked my current game as LA Argatha, and the Necros are cap only. It is a CBM game, perhaps this is why?

It's CBM yes.

Ouch, that's a pretty harsh nerf to Agartha. Ktonian Necromancers and national summons are the only things they really have going for them, although the crossbowmen aren't bad.

Very, very harsh. Too harsh in fact.
The crossbows have low precision so are not that great.

How exactly do you use them efficiently. I've tried to make good use of them and I always feel they are missing something. What bless do you use?

Agarthan Ancient Ones are my favorite recruitable everywhere just for the feel.
Dai Oni is my favorite commander because of how awesome they look and how they can destroy armies almost out of the box.

They are one of my favorite units, along with the lanka donkey and tiger heads.
With the warriors, I go with a double or triple bless

I consider LA Argatha one of the very strongest LE nations apart from Ermor and R'yleh. Some of the best battle magic available, great troops (mostly the x-bows), and of course Umbrals. That said, I dislike having nations play drastically different than base game, so I was thinking of retracting this change.

Do you have a specific build for that which we can toss into the semirand library? Something the AI could play fairly intelligently? Sounds like it would be interesting to run into in a solo game.
Do you see it best as an add to a specific nation?
Or as part of a specifically designed province?

If I can pick any unit, it would be Lanka's Mandaha. It costs 133 bloodslaves to summon (at B8 I think), but its worth many times that.
How's this:
- he can fly.
- he can command large armies.
- he autocasts darkness at the beginning of each battle!
- he comes with air 3, so you can cloudtrapeze him anywhere, and have him buff with mirror image / mistform.
- he has 65 hps and comes with generally decent stats.
- he is sacred and priest level 3, so he can cast divine bless on himself.
- he is vulnerable to fire and is a demon, so you would want to equip him accordingly.
Properly used and equipped, there's really not a lot that can stand against these guys. Anything but other undead/demons don't have a chance to start, because of darkness. Second, his stats - with air magic buffs and the strong bless you'd probably play Lanka with anyway - are better than any tartarian, wraithlord, demonlord, archdevil, or anything else undead you can think of. These guys are as bad as they come.

A specifically designed province would work great. I always love fighting the "Vampire Crew" or the "Troll Crew", Maybe there could be a "Wraight Lord Crew". And as far as the the equipment he is very flexible unit. I usually give him two swords, some solid armor and boots and make them berserk. I pile them up in groups of 5. I mostly use them for suiside missions inside my dominion. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
